Billboard BS

Here’s a great definition of the idiocy we face from SOME of our religious brethen. The FFRF posted this Billboard:And the religious zealots, not willing to address the issue, let our opinion stand, or even use any neurons in their pseudo-brains at all, came back with this billboard. It truly sickens me — not that some asses would hate us just for our beliefs, and not that they would put up a bigoted billboard. What sickens me is that there is so little outcry from the local people. They take it for granted that the FFRF billboard is “offensive” and the Christian slander is relevant. There IS some negative response, but not nearly enough. This is why we fight, and this is why we shout. My suggestion: Get some religious people to speak out about this. We need to tear this kind of bigotry down from within.

Preeky never tires of asking that question over and over again “Why isn’t my fantastical imagination as good as science?”.

    Belief is never necessary.

The believer is never the beneficiary of belief.

Belief is the unseen door through which corruption enters man’s interactions.

Faith is the hope you are not being suckered by your beliefs.

    Sure…how about “life” from “non-life”…?

It seems that they’re making progress in that direction:

    Well, phreedy, Life from no-life?

Was there life before the big bang, or shortly after? If some Idiot Designer made life, when did it do it? Which Designer do you mean: the ones from Norse or Greek or Egyptian beliefs?

Then there are also the Indian, Chinese, Japanese, etc. Designers. Let’s just roll the dice and pick anyone of them. We have so many Designers to choose from.

Are you joking? Cloning WORKS. It is done on a routine basis in labs around the world with multiple species. How can you honestly compare faith in a god creating life from non life to medical science creating animal clones in a lab?

Ah Alex…good question. Typical from one who places man’s ability over that of God’s…

I’d give you the answer but since you have superior intelligence I’m sure you can connect the dots…

But just as you said you have faith in science and that one day science will reveal the answers…so right now it’s ok to say…

    We don’t know…

Likewise God has revealed many Truths that took man thousands of years to discover…so, one day He will reveal all…so right now it’s ok for us to say…

    We don’t know…

You tell my why your belief system is any more valid….????

What has God ever revealed to YOU? I didn’t know YOU were a prophet. How often does God actually speak to you where you can hear him, just as you would hear your wife call you for dinner?

If you have never heard him speak to you out loud… then you are just listening to the voices in your head. As far as revelations made to others; without being there to witness the revelation yourself, it is not a revelation at all. It is HERESAY! Nothing more.

Why would we have to discover truths if god already revealed them to us? He revealed them and then we forgot them and then discovered them and found out they were the same as the ones that were revealed?

“Atheists are the last group in America that it is socially acceptable to publicly hate.”

Not that it’s a competition or anything, but fat people also hold this distinction in society. Perhaps even more-so as society actively encouranges the hatred of fat and fat people. The elderly can be put on that list as well, especially elderly women. I’ve heard phrases like this too many times—”everyone and their GrandMother” “even my GRANDMOHTER can do it”, which designates the elderly women to the status of lowest of the low, most feable, usless… I mean after all , even they can apparently do whatever it is. So while atheists certainly belong to that sad societal hate list, it’s certianly not the last group. Although as I said, it’s not a competition in what segment of society is more discriminated against.

  18. alexatheist says:

You tell my why your belief system is any more valid….????

Because my “beliefs” (actually acceptance of facts) are backed up by testable and repeatable peer reviewed evidence and your belief system is propped up only by personal faith. Your belief in god is no more substantial than a belief in leprechauns is and there really is absolutely no comparison to be made between what we believe, phreedum.

Phreedm ducks. He weaves. He takes one hit after another. He’s on the ropes. A right cross and he’s down.

As the count reaches 10 we hear him say, “Jesus! Wasn’t my faith good enough?”.

That’s what happens when you float like a bee and sting like a butterfly.

phreedy is a cut and runner, a coward. It’s been a long time since he has responded to my criticisms of his total BS.

These bilboards were in my town in Pennsylvania a matter of weeks ago.
First, it was the Imagine No Religion,
Then, in less than 2 weeks, it was replaced, directly over top, with Atheists Hate American.

  22. what says:

All that exists at this moment has a creator – all that existed at previous moments. For some bizarre reason Phreeky wants to attach a personality and a penis to that existed at each previous moment. Now that’s just weird.

  23. what says:

    that existed -> what existed

  24. what says:

    Alex

    Because my “beliefs” …

Come on Alex, I know you are smarter than that. No belief is necessary. Period. Belief is the booby hatch through which one enters phreeky’s bizzaro world.

  25. Naughtyniko says:

I agree with karen about not responding to phreedom. Engaging him is futile and distracting. It doesn?t change anyone?s position and it usually breaks down to name-calling. Like we need that. Perhaps David Silverman can set up a separate blog for trolls and atheists who like to waste their time and leave this blog, off limits to trolls, for more constructive dialog.

  26. bernarda says:

You could do variations of the xian sign.

“Why to Xians love God and hate America?”

“Xians are loyal to Jesus, not America”

    “God: 1; America: 0 — for Xians”

I am sure you can come up with many more better ones.

The response to the billboard was fairly typical. Christians have a great deal of difficulty tolerating atheists. They are generally much more tolerant of Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc.

That is because out of all those groups, atheists are the only ones without any kind of blind faith (despite what Phreedm thinks). Jews, Muslims, and Hindus would never try to prove the xtian god does not exist, because in doing so, would prove their god doesn’t exists either.

On a differnt note…tell me this doesn’t sound like many who post on this blog…

The Fascists were completely against individualism in general and especially against individualism in a free market economy. Their agenda included minimum wage laws, government restrictions on profit-making, progressive taxation of capital, and “rigidly secular” schools.

This doesn’t sound anything at all like the many non-secular individuals who post on this blog.

But it sounds exactly like the religiously insane idiots who troll this blog and pollute the discussion with their occult superstitions. Looked in a mirror lately, phreakshow? Replace ‘fascist’ and ’secular’ with ‘christian’, and you could have said this. Maybe a slightly different agenda, but that’s it.

  29. alatham says:

I feel bad about dignifying this with a response, but here goes:

Just who is it that believes life came from no life?

    Truth is…we all do…

Wrong. The truth is that a belief in “life” from “non-life” is fallacious. A belief in “eternal life” is also fallacious. Both arguments suffer from a leap to conclusions.

I’m sure you will continue to willfully misunderstand this, Phreedm (as history suggests). I’m only writing this so it’s here in writing since nobody spelled it out (Alex came close though).

What is it about admitting ignorance that you seem to detest so much?

As an aside, I think we have a new epitaph for Phreedm:

I’d give you the answer but

Add an ellipsis to the end of that and it perfectly sums him up.

  30. what says:

Phreeky and his brethren all have the same problem. As they matured through childhood and adulthood they discovered that they were lacking compared to others – or at least that was their perception. To battle their cognitive dissonance they create a fantasy world in which knowledge and talent have little meaning. In the fantasy world an all-powerful gawd makes the differences between humans look insignificant. Then they surround themselves with like-minded others to reinforce the fantasy – that takes a lot of resources – by devaluing science and the accomplishments of humans.

    Mark 3:22-25
    22) And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Be-el’zebul, and by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” 23) And he called them to him, and said to them in parables, ” How can Satan cast out Satan? 24) If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25) And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26) And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end.! 27) But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man; then indeed he may plunder his house. 28) ” Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; 29) but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin–” 30) for they had said, “He has an unclean spirit.” 31) And his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside they sent to him and called him. 32) And a crowd was sitting about him; and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, asking for you.” 33) And he replied, ” Who are my mother and my brothers?” 34) And looking around on those who sat about him, he said, ” Here are my mother and my brothers! 35) Whoever does the will of God is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
