I always get a kick out of the deeply religious trying to make their views seem less crazy. I once put a question on Yahoo answers to the effect of what do christians think of the Bible's endorsements of slavery. Their responses ranged from slavery wasn't so bad back then to what they meant by slavery was what we now just consider employment to no it doesn't. Seriously, the Bible has such strict and conflicting standards how can you not be a hypocrite?

Because the religious in this country created a religious test for politicians it will lead to a public examination of their beliefs, as it should.

As the average person realizes what these people really believe they will cast there vote for another. What female would vote for someone who believes they are not equal?

They will be responsible for their own undoing.

There was a letter to the editor in the local paper yesterday written by a good xian telling all we readers that under no circumstances should we consider voting for Obama. Why? Because this is a xian nation, of course, and Obama, if not Muslim, certainly has close ties to Muslims, the end result being that if elected Obama will bring this nation down.

I am not an Obama fan, but I never ceased to be amazed at pots calling kettles black.

Asking Huckabee about the insane bullshit he believes isn't a "religious test."

It is when you ask questions he doesn't want to answer.

Should we expect anything but doublespeak from politicians? It's been called "flip-flopping" these days, but the idea is still the same: say that you support something one minute and then support the opposite the next. This gives the politician two sound bites that his/her supporters can push later (depending on which is more popular to the crowd currently listening to it).

And for those of you that believe your excretions smell better: the Democrats are equally guilty.

I'm with Rusty. Asking a person to tell you what they believe doesn't impose any pass/fail criteria. It's not a test, it's just a question.

The fact that he doesn't want to answer tells us that he's not following the scripture: "be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you".

Too bad scripture doesn't stipulate that you should give answers which aren't self-contradictory.

Too bad scripture doesn't stipulate that you should give answers which aren't self-contradictory.

There isn't any particular prohibition to outright lying either.

An awful lot of xians believe that one of their commandments is "Thou shalt not lie." There is no such commandment - the only one that talks about lying is "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." This commandment prohibits lying about something their neighbor did. It doesn't prohibit lying about what they do or believe.

They like to shorten this to "Thou shalt not bear false witness" and leave off the rest. Clearly they saw the caveat and covered it up, as so much often is with xians.

The "no religious test" clause of Article VI only applies to the government itself. There can be no laws prohibiting holding office based on a candidate's religious beliefs. In no way, shape, or form does Article VI prohibit journalists or voters from posing questions to a candidate about her/his religious beliefs, especially when the candidate volunteers the subject matter to begin with.

Peter's post points out not only typical xtian hypocrisy, it also highlights Richard Land's ignorance of the US constitution.

Sad, but predictable.

By the way, something like eight states still carry language in their constitutions that explicitly require religious tests, including requirement that belief in God is necessary to testify in a court of law. Such state constitutional provisions are negated by the US constitution's 14th Amendment, of course, but it is telling that such religious bigotry still exists on the books of these states. You think for one minute Richard Land would not wholly concur with these obsolete constitutional religious tests? If you do, I've got a bridge for sale...
