It's the rise of stupidity like ID that forces us to come out and stay out as atheists. So as long as religion and superstition keep raising their ugly heads, we atheists need to keep being as vociferous as possible.

I saw that as well and had the same reaction. The worst part is there was no time, and no one, presumably, to simply point out his fallacious statement that ID was science in the first place. I?ve always though better of him than that.

I wasn't too pleased with the way the question was phrased. It seems to imply that atheism is merely a trend and something that perhaps will go away after some time.

I have a feeling it is here to say. That said, yes, atheists need to form a sense of community and unity in order to make social change in America and around the world. I think the task starts, indeed, with this election and the many local elections.

It's just sad most people still think atheists as that mean neighbor who hates life.

While I agree with the necessity for change, I doubt atheism can be useful as a basis for unity.

This morning on Face the Nation I laughed my ass off when McCain called himself "an agent candidate for change". Yes he really said it. I can see the ads now.

Voiceover: America is looking for change.
McCain on Iran.

Video of McCain singing: "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran"

Voiceover: McCain on Iraq.

Video of McCain saying: "I don?t think Americans are concerned if we?re there for one hundred years or a thousand years or ten thousand years."

Voiceover: Had enough ... change?
