Mclaughlin Wrong, Everyone Else Right

I LOVE the McLaughlin Group, and today was very happy to see a quick question posed to the “Fab 4″ panelists:”Will the trendy Atheism continue to rise in America?”All four panelists, including Pat Buccanan, said YES. McLaughlin said no, basing his opinion on the rise of Illigent Design. The real answer is, of course, “it depends”. If we come out now, wear our Atheism on our sleeves, and show ourselves for the thinking, omnipresent, and wonderful people that we are, we will progress. If we allow ourselves to crawl back into the shadows, and perhaps elect a president that thinks Mythology is science, Mglaughlin will be right, and we will lose.Make McLaughlin WRONG!

no one believed that an advanced nation like germany could slide into barbarism but it did.

Great point. Berlin was the intellectual capital of the world prior to WW1. And you’re right. Look what science and superiority did for the world…

    zotnix,

Christians tend to have unity on issues regarding poverty and giving a “helping hand.” Regardless of *actual action*, they hold these things to be good.

Yeah, that must be why they align themselves with the rethuglican party.

I help people out quite often. I used to live in an almost total christian community, I would even help them, until they started claiming that the projects were done by christians. Even then sometimes I would still help but I told them I was an Atheist. Which generally sets up some amusing and occasionally humiliating events.

I still help people but it is usually as an individual and I am happy to help with projects that don’t have a christian agenda.

Most of the atheists and agnostics I have met (which isn’t many) have been more inclined to helping without expecting any reward or recongnition. Some of the christians I have met are like that but, most of them expect recognition if not something more.

There are several countries that get along just fine without religious shit. The religious countries of the world have serious problems.

The christians in the United States are pushing for a theocracy or something close to it. The United States has started to suffer some of the consequences. Christians want destruction, that is what will bring their jebus back.

I am always amazed when Atheists buy into the christians are good slogan.

The “right” are the ones that are generally in support of that, Ron Paul included. Check out which party is supported by the hugh corporations and companies that build military equipment.

Ahhh…it’s the Dems who receive more corporate money. Don’t tell me you believe in that myth also?

…….religion. It will naturally fall away as more and more people are educated. I think this is why there are more atheists and more tolerance for atheism in european countries where higher education is paid for by the government.

The majority of people in my small midwestern city assume everyone is a religious believer and they will bring up the subject in brief conversations, with people they barely know. Most never went past a HS education, and that was often 25 to 50 years ago. They have not examined even a tenth of the kind of thinking that is expressed on this and other atheist blogs. They have no concept of the RR’s agenda to discredit science or alter the Constitution. And if they did they would probable support the church’s position.

They want to believe in life after death, the baby jeesus and that prayer will help in times of trouble. I actually believe it does. For them it’s a comfort, not an ideology.

But Dawnisis has identified the major threat to religions belief: education. As older generations of believers in American die out and the more informed, the more sophisticated, the more web “connected” generations take over, the climate will improve for atheists, even if unity is not possible nor preferred.

It just doesn’t help quickly, and I think that is the frustration many of us are trying to cope with on a daily basis. That and hostility, mistrust, anger, hate, fear, media bias, isolation, miserable candidates for president………

So do narcotics, amphetamines, alcohol and tobacco … for a while, and then they reality of addiction unfolds. Theists go from one pusher to another looking for a fix and paying what price they are asked until they have little left but the addiction itself as they drift off into their last feeble high. It’s so sad given that reality is free and priceless.

Well, for one, we all agreed a person couldn’t ignore his responsibilities to humanity because his superior told him to do so…

We need to come out of the closet but at the same time, we must join culture with our inferior thinking (evolutionary) relatives… I’ve been starting to be very nice to Christians to not make them think that atheists are a threat. This way we maintain respect. I say I love you to all my religious relatives and their spouses. I don’t force my motto anymore down their throats but rather maintain my support of science and my that I don’t believe in their beliefs. I feel this inspires them to become more mature about their choices. YES we must stay out of the closet, but not hate them. After all, it’s extremism that we really can’t stand, not the people who are brainwashed to believe it and extremism is usually started by few individuals.
