I belong to this group in CT. Recently we put up an “atheist” display infront of the town green. It is creating somewhat of a firestorm. Check outthese links:Hartford Courant:http://www.courant.com/news/custom/topnews/hc-atheists1208.artdec08,0,4763712.story?coll=hc_tab01_layoutJournal Inquirer:http://www.zwire.com/site/index.cfm?newsid=19082225&BRD=985&PAG=461&dept_id=569380&rfi=8Feel free to check out some of the idiotic feedbacks from the religious.
A great way to equalize yourself with those who wish government support.

What,
Each and everyone of the founders of the United States, yea, even all of them were born to Atheism. Most, if any, of these strong people only lost their Atheism through repeated and brutal abuse of their minds by Christians.
djpoobahl, As a builder of the CT. display I want to point out that the display has several panels, the side directly facing town hall and closet to foot traffic is devoted to the winter solstice. Of course all media photos are of the Imagine No Religion panel. The solstice panel reads: “The Winter Solstice. In late December the sun is lower and the days are shorter than any time of the year. Throughout the rest of the winter the sun gets higher and the days get longer. Because of this people have celebrated the Winter Solstice since time immemorial. People used to believe that gods moved the sun across the sky. Today we know that there are no gods, and that the sun moves by natural causes, and we celebrate not only the movement of the sun but our ability to understand that movement.”
Hope this answers your question.

Hmm, am I the only atheist that sees this display as a little different than what the town probably expected would be put up? I mean, the atheist group was going to put up a display regarding solstice, so for me, I’d expect to see a billboard with a tagline “The real reason for the season”, or a “Happy Solstice” or something showing the historical origins referencing the solstice. Instead the group put up a highly charged billboard that has zero reference to winter solstice.
