My brother suggested that our family not celebrate any holiday this year and we are all going to give it a try. We still plan to get together for a turkey dinner because we all have a few days off of work and school but we have asked mum not to put up a tree or for any of us to buy presents. We are just going to spend time together which is the best present of all.
There's a house near me that is festively decorated. The owners bought those netted lights that drape over bushes. The lights are multi-colored lights, but the lights are all in line according to color, and the folks didn't mix them up at all. So each bush looks like a little rainbow in front of the home.

I call it The Gay Pride Xmas House! ;)
I'm shocked! How about a joke to cheer up with:

The next presidential candidate should take on the task of relocating Mecca to the south pole as a military strategy/practical joke. This way, the Islamists wouldn't have to pull out a map and compass, and do some reckoning 5 times a day to find Mecca. No, they would only need to pull a compass out and find south and face that direction 5 times a day.

What would this result in!? Well, since Santa Clause lives in the north pole, he would be mooned by Muslims all over the world on several occasions while they are observing their sacred mythical city. Also, going to the south pole is dangerous business for anyone, and most Muslims wouldn't be able to find the place on their once in a life time journey because their compasses would stop working down south. The result would be that you'd have a lost population of Muslims living in Antartica circling the south pole for all eternity trying to find Mecca.

One Xmas, I was really bothered by a purchase I made from the Atheist store. We bought some Solstice car(ds) to send out to family and friends, but when we got them we noticed the writing on the back which read:

"December 25, by the Julian Calendar, was the winter solstice. This day, originally regarded by the pagans as the day of the nativity of the sun, the shortest day of the year -- when the light began its conquering battle against darkness -- was celebrated universally in all the ages of man.

Taken over by the Christians as the birthday of their mythological Christ, this ancient holiday, set by motions of the celestial bodies, survives as a day of rejoicing that good will and love will have a perpetual rebirth in the minds of men -- even as the sun has a symbolic rebirth yearly. "

The first paragraph alone would have been sufficient in explaining the Solstice to the uniformed, but the second paragraph seems like a childish attempt to start a fight during what is supposed to be a peaceful time. You might as well send a car(d) that says "Enjoy the holiday. Fuck your religion!"

In hindsight we should have ordered our car(ds) from ffrf.org, since they don't have any immature attacks printed on their car(ds).

I could care less what someone's personal beliefs are, but I don't want to intentionally pick a fight with someone I'm close with.

I usually get at least one card a year announcing "Jesus is the Reason for the Season!" That's essentially saying the same thing, in Christianese.

Dolphins are a form of intelligent life, so the rule is that they must be converted to Islam or die. As far as seals and penguins go, they are cute like teddy bears, so yes, they must die also. You have to expect this whenever you introduce a foreign species into a native population though.

I just realized that muslims are especially well adapted for living in the coldest place on the planet. They wear clothes that cover every square inch of their bodies, which is a necessity when fending off frostbite. Right now, Mecca, being in the hottest place on Earth has to be horrible for these muslims to travel to, which is the reason why their doctrine of hatred is so well accepted over there I guess.

It's not the same though, Karen. Saying something like "Jesus is the reason..." says nothing negative towards Atheism. But when an Atheist card states something like "Taken over by the xtians..." seems like the person who's giving the card is looking for a fight.

Wis, I agree. I hate that paragraph and don't send those card because of it. It DOES pick a fight that need not be picked, IMO.
