Another example of what a theocratic America would look like

A rape victim is tried for being gang raped and faces sentencing that includes whipping. Here a school teacher lets her 7 year old students name a teddy bear with a common Muslim name and is on trial to determine how many lashes she will receive. (see link in title to this posting)Won’t America be better off when our theocrats gain control and can rule us with the same type of morality? I just can’t wait. It will be really wonderful when we can stone clerks at Home Depot because they put up a sign declaring “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas”. When we can nail all those “so-called jews” in Hollywood to crosses for those crass, sexist, violent films. When we can burn scientists at the stake again for declaring the earth is millions of years old instead of the truth (6 thousand years) or for declaring that life evolves instead of being supernaturally created out of beach sand and a magical rib.Yes sir, the glory and bounty from He who may not be named will be truly wonderful once we achieve the same level of grace through ignorance as other theocratically ruled nations in the world.Peter Nuhn

Yep….imagine a country where abortion is illegal, but you can stone unruly children to death.

I agree with you Peter. Plane and simple: inquisition.

The control of religion by the state and vice versa was the entire reason we left England. It is the very reason the founders made the laws pretty clear on not mixing the two. Some of the founders were christians, and most of them saw those laws in their best interest. It is sad that so many Americans see this as a threat.

I think we should enact a few of the lesser known laws in the bible as law first, just to let the zealots get a little taste. I will provide a short list off the top of my head.

    1. A death sentence without trial for eating shellfish of any type.

    2. A death sentence without trial for anyone who wears a cloth made of two kinds of thread. This includes cotton polyester blends. The employees of fast food restaurants should be rounded up quickly.

    3. If anyone in any town or city is thought to worship any heresy, the entire town or city should be burned, and all put to death. NO trials, the accusation alone is proof enough!

    4. As stated above every disobedient child should be stoned and the entire community(minus the women, but including the father) should be active participants.

    5. Those who touch the flesh of a pig, DIE, Period, no trial, end of story.

And before a believer says that Jesus changed all that, READ THE NEW TESTAMENT. Jesus stated that not a letter of the old laws are changed. I do not know the verse, look it up yourselves. I will not do your work for you. You believe the crap, you look it up.

    Off Topic, but . . .

Help me out here. Did any other idiot besides me watch the Republican questioning last night? Quite frankly, I felt like I should shower after it was over–all that bible, anti-abortion talk was too much to take.

But, when Mitt Romney was asked if he believed everything in the Bible, the xian bible, he said he believed in “The Bible.” I didn’t think Mormons believe in “the” bible. I thought they only believed in the Book of Mormon.

What’s the deal? Can he believe in “the” bible? (I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t just say that to get votes, right?)

“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. Matthew 5:17

“But this I admit to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect I do serve the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets; Acts 24:14

Matthew 10:34: “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”

I wonder if we will all have the right to bear swords…..

Thanks for the link. That is exactly how it went down during the Republican debate last night after the question was asked “Do you believe every single word in this book (the bible)?” (quote close enough). And not a one of them had guts enough to point out that no religious test shall ever be required to hold public office.

Later I watched Campbell Brown tell us about the new forces at work these days via the net and tv shaping truth and lies about candidates. And I was already ticked off that Oprah has decided to single-handedly elect Obama.

Damned but politics can depress you these days.

I gotta admit, you guys are nothing if not efficient.

  17. avatar alexatheist says:

people killed in the Atheist regimes of Stalin, Lenin, And Mao- over 100 million

This tired old argument? Really you make it too easy. Stalin, Lenin, and Mao never killed a single person in the name of atheism but rather in the name of communism, facism, etc-.

  18. avatar what says:

    Jack

So do you think Stalin, Lenin, and Mao were singling out theists for death? What an idiot!

  19. avatar justme says:

    Jack,

It is even worse. 99.999999% of mass murderers have no believe in Santa Claus (I don’t have the numbers for the Easter Bunny on hand).

Not done in the name of atheism (note the lower-case ‘a’).
If everyone here were Commies, you’d have a valid point. But we’re not, so you don’t.

people killed by your god: All of them. The most efficient killer ever, holding steady at 100 percent success rate.

The republican debate was hilarious. Watching Romney and Huckle berry try to explain how they did but also did not believe every word of their different bibles was great. The only thing they could agree on, it was Clinton’s fault! The whole thing was a setup. Ah, great country of ours.

By the way, in case anyone else missed it. Romney will torture if elected. Shouldn’t xtians care about something like that?

  25. avatar Jack the Toad says:

You can tell yourselves that they were commies not atheists all you want, whatever it takes to get you to sleep at night, but atheism is at the core of those communist philosophies and it proved to have tragic results everytime.
Atheists + Power = blood bath.

If you guys can’t differentiate between good religion and bad you’re not even in the discussion. Christianity and Islam are two completely different faiths. Your imaginary tales of how the country would be if christians ran it are childish. But after visiting this site for a few months I’ve come to realize that such antics are the norm.

Don’t look now but the fastest growing religion in the world is Christianity, and guess where it’s spreading fastest? China (Atheist) and Islamic countries! Yeah for our side! People want truth in their lives, and apparently most of them are finding it in the person of Jesus Christ. Too bad, so sad.

How come in Europe where secular humanism has held sway for so long the biggest movements are witchcraft and Islam?
I don’t know, maybe it’s because atheism has nothing to offer.Oh well, sucks to be you.

What- I thank God for atheists like you. I love you man, no, really.

  26. avatar rna2dna says:

    pha,

Yes the republican debate was funny. A bunch of backward christians stumbling around, arguing about which god-idea was real.

The christian does care deeply about torture. They want people tortured. Even McCain, he makes a lot of noise but when he is one of the deciding votes that would put the brakes on torture he votes for torture.

As in Albania? Completely secular nation – lots & oodles of tolerance, including inter-religious marriages?
Sweden, Denmark, secular, lowest crime rates per capita in the EU?

How odd, none those crimes were committed in the name of atheism, isn’t it?

Since I don’t espouse communism in any way shape or form, I sleep quite well at night, thanks.

If you guys can’t differentiate between good religion and bad you’re not even in the discussion.

You can’t seem to differentiate at all.
Philosophies didn’t commit those crimes. Religions didn’t either.
    People did.
Now, religion does tend to give folks the crazy idea that they get a free pass, but hell, folks’ll use any excuse to excuse themselves.

Don’t look now but the fastest growing religion in the world is Christianity, and guess where it’s spreading fastest?

    Proves my point.

People want truth in their lives, and apparently most of them are finding it in the person of Jesus Christ.

Ahhh…ain’t that sweet. Too bad it’s all a chock of lies.

“If a million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing” – Anatole France.

I don’t know, maybe it’s because atheism has nothing to offer.

Oh, do take your sophomoric wit elsewhere, where it might be appreciated.
Judging from your blitherings, you probably think Deuteronomy is the operation where they remove your Deuter.

It’s funny how religion is spreading in countries with large populations of uneducated people, while it is shrinking in countries with higher education.
