Try reading ALL of the article you cite.

In dismissing the lawsuit, the federal court said that they agreed with the city attorney’s position that San Diego should be dismissed because the federal government owns the memorial property. Hence, the lawsuit will further proceed against the federal government.

  6. avatar Ren says:

    phreedm,
Thanks for your concern. Truth be told, I haven’t been doing well lately. Just like everyone else, I have my good days and my bad ones.

Oh, and one more thing… this is a secular nation, otherwise, Christianity would be the STATE religion, and it is not. Everyone is welcome here, assuming of course they behave themselves and obey the laws. I will agree that the US is a nation of primarily Christians. That is a given, but it is not the same thing as saying this is a Christian Nation.

Nice try, though. You just keep banging your head against that brick wall.

  7. avatar karen says:

    Ren

Sorry that the days have been rough for you lately. I can empathize. Hope it gets better. I’ll try to email more often if that’ll help.

  8. avatar what says:

    Hang in there Ren.

Just bought The Golden Compass. My daughter and I will be reading it as soon as we finish Hoot.

  9. avatar Ren says:

Thanks guys (and gals). Karen, I always enjoy hearing from you, but I know you live in a world of shit as well. Write as often as you can/like, but please don’t feel like you have too. That’s just that much more stress YOU don’t need.

I think I will have to buy The Golden Compass for my son, for…wait for it… Christmas! What the hell? If they can steal other religion’s ceremonies and pagentry, we can surely steal theirs for our own purposes.

My son is half way through the last Harry Potter book, so he should be ready for something new by then. I don’t read many books myself. I just don’t have the attention span. My son, on the other hand, is a voracious reader. He gets that from his mom.

  10. avatar billh says:

    phreedm:
OK, lets try it this way. (Don’t know if it has been explained this way or not, but here goes)

Our Founding fathers were mostly brown hair, and all white men. Does this mean America is a Brown Hair Nation? Or a White Nation? Or a Mans Nation?

Also, the 10 commandments demands only one god, the xtian god. The Constitution guarenties us the freedom of religion.

Furthermore, tell me ANY of the 10 commandments that are covered in theh Constitution!

I will not get into what the beliefs are of the FF’s. That is an old battle which you just will never get.

So come on, why do YOU think this is a xtian nation>

  11. avatar rna2dna says:

According to Christians their god idea made everything and all the processes needed to make it work. Later on, Christians think that their god idea made Christians apparently for no other reason than to prove that it could also make really stupid things too.

  12. avatar Christian37 says:

If the goal of this movie was to hurt my feelings as a christian, it certainly didn’t work. So this man wrote a few dumb books and so they’ve made a stupid movie about it. My God cannot die. His son died for us but he cannot die. As for Phillip Pullman and his silly books and all of you who read them, I don’t care. I am not the one who will burn for an eternity so it’s not my problem. As a christian, I pity him and all of you. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15).

  13. avatar rna2dna says:

    Christian37,

You are a typical selfish disgusting christian. Your god-idea cannot literally die because it is not alive. Your god-idea is simply that, an idea that YOU want your brain to believe in.

  14. avatar Christian37 says:

    rna2dna,

I will pray for you. I hope that one day you will change your mind. However I have proof that my God is real. Do you have proof that we all just popped up out of thin air?

The question I have for “athiests” is how did we just come to be? How did we appear out of nothing? History says Jesus Christ lived. The Bible, which was written over many different time periods, says my God is very real.

For all of you to turn your backs on God is heart-breaking. I am not a Bible-black tyrant. I do not put down “athiests.” I pity and pray for you.

And my brain doesn’t tell me to believe in God. My heart and soul do.

I hope that at least some of you change your minds and find out the truth not from me, but from yourselves. Look inside yourselves. How did we come to be. I know. I hope you find out.

But I don’t make fun of your beliefs so why do you insult mine? Why does “The Golden Compass” insult my God. AND WHY IS THIS MAN TRYING TO SEND A HORRIBLE MESSAGE IN WHAT LOOKS LIKE A CHILDRENS MOVIE? Well, he won’t get my money. And billions of christians will not give him their money to see this horrible movie.

Remember, my God cannot die. He is stronger than anyone or anything. And he is NOT and IDEA.

As for me and my house we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15).

  15. avatar 666 says:

    37,
    Your god is a delusion!

question I have for “athiests” is

    Go back to school and learn to spell: A t h e i s t.

You’ve already demonstrated your ignorance on a previous thread.

  16. avatar alatham says:

    Christian37,

    First,

But I don’t make fun of your beliefs so why do you insult mine?

Putting the word Atheist in quotes is awfully insulting. Spelling it wrong is less insulting, but you’d do better to learn the correct spelling.

AND WHY IS THIS MAN TRYING TO SEND A HORRIBLE MESSAGE IN WHAT LOOKS LIKE A CHILDRENS MOVIE?

Are you implying that Atheism is a horrible message? Is that why Atheists are under-represented in prison? Is that why countries with more Atheists have more peaceful foreign policies and personal freedoms? Do you really think that peacefulness and morality are horrible things?

On the contrary, religion encourages people to put other people into groups so they can more quickly judge their characters. Religion encourages people to jump to conclusions about things they have no hope of fully understanding (e.g. existence, as you’ve so perfectly pointed out). Religion encourages people to follow, not to think for themselves. Is it any wonder that religion is so often used to control people?

No, I think removing religion from one’s life is a very positive thing.

You can say “my God is not an idea” all you want, but that doesn’t make it true.

You also claim to have proof that your god exists. I’d like to see it.

Further, I’d like to see you prove that all Atheists are required to believe “we all just popped up out of thin air.”

You don’t really know much about Atheism, do you?

  17. avatar xsouthx says:

Everything flows in a continuous cycle. The universe expands and collapses, expands and collapses, and etc… – we didn’t have to pop out of thin air b/c we have always been. Time was created by humans, there was no beginning – there will be no end. Forget the worries start living

  18. avatar mkap10 says:

Christian37, let me try to explain something to you-

Your “proof” of good is not a proof at all. The fact that we can’t ultimately answer the question of where the universe comes from is not a proof of the existence of any god, let alone the very particular god of the new testament.

All you’ve “proved” is that we don’t know everything, which all of us realize. I’m comfortable saying that there are plenty of things we don’t know yet, and maybe even plenty of things we will never know.

Please explain how the fact that we don’t know EVERYTHING proves that you know ANYTHING?!?!

  19. avatar mkap10 says:

    And another one for Christian37:

    1. The fact that your bible says there is a god doesn’t prove anything at all.

    2. You say you are thinking with your “heart and your soul”- that’s exactly the problem. That’s just not how you “know” things. Human beings have never demonstrated the possession of an instinctive “truth sensor” in their hearts. The only demonstrable human knowledge about anything comes from thinking, which is done by brains.

    3. Your getting upset about some of use making fun of your beliefs is the height of hypocrisy. Your religion doesn’t just make fun of us, it says that we’re all going to hell, to be tortured forever by your supposedly loving god. And you have the nerve to get upset about a little sarcasm? What you’re reading here is nothing other than very mild self-defense. (Not that any of us are worried about your imaginary hell).

  20. avatar mkap10 says:

And finally, with all of this repeating over and over again your unprovable statements about your god, I can only say:

Methinks thee doth protest too much.

  24. avatar Ammon2552 says:

Whoever is the fidiot who is making those comments about Mormonism being stupid on the blog section, you are very incorrect. Do you want to know why you are incorrect? In case you have not noticed, they found Noah’s ark, and along with it, they found the tablets of Enoch. These tablets were written by Enoch and Adam (the one in the Bible) and the writings of Adam were tested and were found to have been written in around 2,500,000BC. At this time, the very “primitive” humans, which is what Adam was, wrote his testimony of God’s existence which is given in one of the Mormon scripture books, the Pearl of Great Price, states in the Book of Moses.

Bull crap statement atheists use (BCSAU) #1: Religion was invented to explain things science could not.
Refuted: Back in Adam’s time, the human brain lacked the capability to think in “why” terms, so in other words, if a tree talked to a person, then the person would not question why the tree was talking to them but would just acknowledge the fact that it was and that it was a different type of tree. If Adam saw and spoke with God, and God told him all things, it happened and was not just made up.
BCSAU #2: Adam was crazy and so were all ancient prophets of the Old and New Testaments.
Refuted: Mental diseases that caused hallucinations did not exist until the late first millenium AD, and they most definitely did not exist in Adam’s time. That was something that evolved with our minds, just like the ability to concept “why”, and creative thinking.
BCSAU #3: Adam made it all up.
In Adam’s time, primitive humans lacked the ability to think creatively. Though they had means of communicating with each other and recording things, no matter how primitive they were and their means of doing so were, they had the mentality to do so.
BCSAU #4: The parting of the Red Sea and destruction Soddom and Gommorah is a load of BS.
Refuted: The parting of the Red Sea was actually proven to have happened. What it was was a VERY VERY rare phenominon in which two tidal waves start at one point and form and travel in opposite directions. While forming they push the water up like walls and there is a path of dry land in between. The whole process takes a minimum of four hours. Afterwards, the waters collapse over the path of dry land and the tidal waves part in opposite directions. The same goes for the destruction of Soddom and Gamorrah. These cities were built right near a volcano(s), and when a volcano erupts, it looks just like fire falling from the sky.
BCSAU #5: The Virgin Birth and Resurrection of Jesus Christ is false and so are His miracles.
Refuted: There is evidence of both of these: As for the Resurrection of Jesus: He was buried in a tomb with a flat, circular stone sealing him into the cavern, and there was no other enterance. Through science, it was proven the stone was moved from the inside of the cavern. The stone was too heavy for any one man to move. It was set up in such a way that from the inside of the tomb, the sides of the stone could not be touched, and only the face of it could. The stone was rolled to the side, and not tipped over. That was proven too. No natural forces could have done it because it was moved from the inside. (The same technology used here is used in crime investigations.) As for the Virgin Birth: from the Shroud of Turin, they took Jesus’ DNA and discovered that he had rather peculiar, intracible genes from a father (he was not of Earth), but had normal, tracible genes from a mother. Also, some mother animal recently gave birth to a baby of her kind when her species needs a male partner to procreate, and there was no male partner involved whatsoever in the creation of this baby. I think it was a dolphin, but I am not sure what animal it was. I am sure however that it was a mammal, like us humans are. So it is possible for it to have happened with Mary, in fact, it is proven to have been so. Also, thousands of people witnessed Jesus heal the sick and raise the dead, and the majority of those people hated him, so they would not lie for his cause. Put two and two together.

Why Mormonism is correct (WMIC) #1: How could have Joseph Smith have claimed to revealed the new translation of the Holy Bible and restored his truths (the Mormon church uses the one completed in 1833, and the Community of Christ uses the one that was never completed, and is a continuation of the one completed in 1833, try not to mix these up) and have all of his restorations made there be proven true by the Dead Sea Scrolls to the very T, at a time when the Dead Sea Scrolls were not even known to have existed? The Dead Sea Scrolls were a copy of the Original Christian Church’s scripture at the time of Jesus Christ.
WMIC #2: One time a prophet of the Mormon church, Lorenzo Snow, raised a girl from the dead who died of scarlet fever, and there are many witnesses to this. Firstly, she was not in a coma, but actually dead, because she was not breathing and her heart was not beating for several hours. One can survive without oxygen for only three minutes. He but his hands on her head and commanded her to come back and more than an hour after he left, she awoke wondering where the man was who awoke her.
WMIC #3: He predicted the whole start and path of the Civil War, and its outcomes 100% correctly and was not at all obscure like Nostradamus. He was rather straight forward as possible. He also predicted the two world wars, the rise of Nazi Germany, and the Holocaust, along with many LDS church related things, which were 100% correct.
WMIC #4: Joseph Smith was not insane: he was tested and so was his carcass with recent technologies with DNA engineering, leading to a computer mapping of his inactive brain, which showed no signs of mental insanity. No one in his family was known to be crazy either.
WMIC #5: There were no spectacles or a hat. This is just a bunch of bullocks that antiMormons make up. You really need to consider the source when doing research. I cannot believe that a man who went to Yale could be so flawed. There were two seer stones, a sword that belonged to Laban, and a breastplate, along with the golden plates.
WMIC #6: Eight witnesses beheld the plates IN THEIR HANDS IN REAL LIFE, NOT JUST IN A VISION IN REAL LIFE. Some of them who saw these plates were excommunicated later on, meaning they lost their jobs and their places in the church. However, when asked right after being excommunicated and then by different people later on, the still testified that they had seen them. Do you not think that with all of their anger for being excommunicated (which they were VERY ticked off), they would have told that it was a lie if it was, or in your words, a con, after they were excommunicated and were ticked off as ever? They were not being threatened or bribed, the church had not the money to bribe or power to threaten at that time. These people (the excommunicated ones), along with others, were with Joseph Smith during most of his visions, which some of these visions testified that the First Vision and the other visions Joseph had alone were true, while others had no need to mention it. They were not insane either and that is proven true the same way Joseph Smith’s sanity was proven true.
WMIC #7: Look at the http://www.jefflindsay.com/LDS/FAQ/ for more information. ie. What he says about the Dead Sea Scrolls may seem to contradict what I say, but it really does not, for I believe I have explained it well enough in my WMIC #1 statement.

Books I recommend: I reccoment The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Understanding Mormonism by Drew Williams.
Websites I recommend: I recommend http://www.mormon.org and http://www.lds.org and ESPECIALLY http://www.jefflindsay.com/LDSFAQ/. Look at this one as soon as possible.

Our underwear is clearly none of you dumb atheists’ business, but I will tell you a bit about that. It is soft, it is warm, it is white, it is snug, it never makes you too hot or warm, and it also is bullet and fireproof. That is right, you heard me, bullet and fireproof. A woman wearing her temple underwear was in a fire, and her body suffered great burns, except those areas covered by the holy garments. (Her hair was okay, and so was her face, but it was most of her limbs that were burned; however, the garments only are like a t-shirt with a pair of boxers.) Also, a man was shot twice in a crossfire, and they hit him in the chest, but he suffered no damage and the bullets did not even penetrate him. It is all a matter of faith, because if a Mormon has not enough faith, the the garments will not give them this heavy-duty protection like mentioned above. These are both things which have recently happened, and you can check into them, for they are recorded. They have happened before and will happen again. It is by NO means stupid. That is more like the dumb crap you believe. I own the garments myself, and as far as I am concerned, you are just envious because you want a pair.

Thus, as you know, I am a very reliable source. I had my IQ tested by a doctor with a PhD (not by some faulty test on the internet) and it came out to be 155, which is a genius level. (Genius is 149+.) I am also a liscensed psychiatrist.
I myself am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, born and bread, and I think I would know more about my religion than any nonMormon does.
I think VERY scientifically about everything even though I am very faithful, devout, and religious. Science has done nothing but prove Mormonism right and the existence of God as truth. I research things like this alot and I would know better. NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE WOULD EVER MAKE ME LOSE MY FAITH EITHER.

Did you ever pick up one book of scripture? ie. the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, or the Pearl of Great Price? If you did, and actually understood them without desiring to prove them wrong, you would find that they are true and if you researched science and had greater knowledge on science and the things it has proven, you would find that science proves God, Jesus, and Mormonism correct above all other religions.

Polygamy was only used to populate the church in the beginning and is a BIG sin unless God commands you otherwise. This is the only sin that has this aspect. In 1890, God revealed to Wilfred Wodruff that this (polygamy) will never again be necessary and was thus henceforth and forever a sin no matter what because God was no longer going to be giving this commandment to anyone anymore. God also knew it would allow Utah to become part of the US, so it was all in perfect timing.

Us Mormons are not really scientific, but faithful people and we respect everyone and NEVER insult anyone’s faith. We believe in science too, but we do not base our religious beliefs on it. It just so happens to agree with our doctrine very well. We believe everyone has the right to worship how, where, or what they may.

You should watch what you say about people’s religions because you might offend some people.

Why do all you people have very dark hair and very pale faces anyways? Are you vampires? Lol.

    Ammon,

Well from someone with an IQ of 170 :-) I know an omnipotent being was not spontaneously vomited out of nothingness (why claim only one how about a billion gods?) to go on to spontaneously create all matter and the universe, get into a fight with one of his creations (Satan), decide to create earth and spontaneously create 2 of every living thing out of thin air for the sole purpose of demanding worship with the threat of being burned eternally by his old friend satan.

Many religions have come before yours and many will come after none are true. It is a psychological need people take advantage of to gain money and power by playing on people’s fear of death.

Wanna be a sucker? Go ahead, but we don’t believe in zeus any more than we believe in your god idea.

I would ask that PhD for my money back.

Then be fucking offended. It’s a free country (that is, unless your boy Mitt gets elected – can’t have religion w/o freedom, or freedom w/o religion, is what Shit Romney says.)
