In God SOME trust! — But Every kid must read it.

BAKERSFIELD – Kern High School District trustees have given the green light to posting the nation’s motto “In God We Trust” in high school classrooms.Inside the district meeting, more than two dozen community members also wanted their voices heard.”This is not an issue of religion,” said poster supporter Paul Press. “It has only become that because it was brought up by a board member who happens to be a preacher.”"If a phrase has ‘Trust in God’ in it … it is part of religious doctrine,” said Hal Stuart, who opposes the posters. “I don’t care if it is the motto … it’s part of religious doctrine.”"The key message of this poster of having ‘In God We Trust’ over the background of the American flag … says those who don’t believe are not good Americans,” said poster opponent Michael Korcok. “And if you think I’m being to sensitive, I just don’t think you’re hearing what some of the supporters are saying.”The debate also continued with the trustees.”So you’re making and amendment to an amendment … after a minute of hearing discussion?” one supervisor asked another. But after all the heated discussion, a poster with a combination of the Bill of Rights, The Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the national motto “In God We Trust.”Trustee Chad Vegas originally proposed a simple “In God We Trust” poster be hung in classrooms, but Bryan Batey amended the proposal.A laminated version of the poster will be hung in all Kern High School District classrooms.

Phrom PhreedThe problem this exposes is what happens when we don’t speak out when little things happen. To say “In God We Trust” isn’t religious is ridiculous, but since Congress made it a national motto (along with e Pluribus Unum, which was not included in this poster), we can’t really stop them from placing this divisive dogma in the classroom. Our only defense is to vote out the un-American theocrats from the school boards.

When that religious motto or other items get put up I think we also need the Treaty of Tripoli which is an official US document. Specifically the portion that has the US is not in any sense a christian nation.

  2. writerdd says:

I’m glad they’re doing stuff like this. It gives us a chance to bring lawsuits.

  3. mushinronjya says:

OH you bet we can stop them. Lawsuit? Same as we are doing with the pledge.

  4. Rusty Shackleford says:

Mandatory posting of “In God We Trust” in classrooms has been state law for quite some time here in Mississippi.

That’s probably why we’re leading the country in all the important indicators of success.

  5. BobC says:

“This is not an issue of religion”

This is another example of the dishonesty of god nuts. Nobody can lie like the moron christians.

“To say ‘In God We Trust’ isn’t religious is ridiculous, but since Congress made it a national motto”

It’s on our money but who said it’s a national motto? “In the Magic Man We Trust” is certainly not my motto.

“we can’t really stop them from placing this divisive dogma in the classroom”

Why not? There’s no reason to compromise with christian thugs. If they are allowed to get away with this, they will just try something else.

If only I was a student in the hick town of Bakersfield. I would be swearing at that brainless school administration every day. These subhumans are nothing less than traitors. Anyone who doesn’t respect our First Amendment should be thrown out of our country, preferably after being tortured first to teach them a lesson. Did I mention I don’t like holy rollers?

Off-topic: On some retarded christian website I was asked for evidence of macroevolution. I supplied tons of evidence. My evidence has been “awaiting moderation” for 2 days now. Christians ask stupid questions and then they censor the answers.

Also off topic: You all absolutely must see this YouTube video from the Secular Party of Australia.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GpauCMf5D8

“Mandatory posting of ‘In God We Trust’ in classrooms has been state law for quite some time here in Mississippi.”

It’s always the most backward hick-infested states that do this. The stupidity of christians is massive.

The moron-infested state of Mississippi received the grade “F” for their public school science standards. “A few lines of evidence for evolution are touched upon, but Mississippi takes remarkable pains to avoid using the word ‘evolution,’ which might alone justify the grade F.”

The magic man invention was a terrible mistake. It makes people immoral, violent, and stupid. Somehow a way must be found to stamp out all supernatural beliefs. It may take centuries to wipe out the god curse, but it must be done. I suggest non-stop ridicule of all holy rollers.

    Bobc,
Yeah, two years ago when the 10C monument at the Austin Capitol was challenged our Attorney General said it had a secular purpose and I almost choked at his straight face while he said it.

I’m sure believers around the world will all rejoice to know that trusting in Gawd is not an issue of religion.

    Reply to BobC:

I’d like to politely disagree with you. I find the whole tone of your post inflammatory; for example I can’t agree at all with torturing Christians prior to throwing them out of the country. This is a free country and that means freedom to believe in religion.

At the same time I would agree that these people who are forcing religion on children in the form of religious slogans on the walls of schools are betraying American values and so are in a limited sense traitors.

Instead of being forceful I think it would be more clever to think more cleverly and point out the inherent weakness of religious people who have to resort to posting mottoes on school walls in order to make their beliefs prominent. They can’t argue the basis of their beliefs so they have to be forceful about it. Atheists would do best to point out this position of weakness that has been adopted by some theists.

They can’t convince people by reasoning and evidence so they have to stoop to force.

Bakersfield! Waahhh. The armpit of California. As P.T. Barnum said “There’s one born every minute” and they all move to Bakersfield and the San Joaquin Valley where they can believe in fairies and that home prices never decrease. It is no accident that the housing Ponzi scheme found most of its victims in there. Waahhh.

    Christians,
How can you have faith in something powerful and at the same time have an overwhelming need to prop it up so that it won’t fall? Are you smaller than I thought? Maybe you Christians are right maybe I have given you too much credit.

Christians does the following phrase offend you?

Fuck the disgusting skull of Jesus Christ.

If that phrase offends you as much as it should if you really do believe then, you may be able to feel the same offense I feel when the phrase “In God We Trust” is used as our national motto.

Now, if you choose to ignore the offensiveness of your action or for that matter inaction, you can blame yourself when I am offensive towards you and your God idea. If you choose to blame me then you deserve to be offended.

    In God We Trust

    for what?

Seriously. Let’s test it. Let’s ask those who trust in god what they trust in it for and put it to the test.

Does he feed the poor? Clothe the naked? House the homeless? Deliver mail? Pave roads? Bake cakes?

We’ll just declare a “trusting in god month” and everyone will put down their tools, stay away from their jobs, and sit back and see what happens. That includes hospitals, fire and police departments, banks, Wall Street, communications services, everything.

    Whaddaya say?

  13. atomictesting says:

Saying that “In God We Trust” isn’t a religious motto is about the same as saying “Phreedm” is the correct spelling of “freedom.”

Consequently Phreedm seems a perfect moniker for what he wants for everyone. Something that looks like “freedom” (to him) but is really nothing like it.

  14. DVanWechel says:

  16. DD Dropout says:

In God we trust? Well, you can count on Him to act exactly as if He were doing nothing about anything.

Unless of course, you have come to believe that no hurricane, tornado, drought or cockroach infestation can happen unless He has decided it is necessary to punish someone. You’d think something that was omniscient could pick His targets without so much collateral damage, though.

I trust Him as far as I can throw Him. You can’t throw Nothing very far.

In Denial of Science We Trust

VegeBrain: “…I can’t agree at all with torturing Christians prior to throwing them out of the country. This is a free country and that means freedom to believe in religion.”

Being a Christian is not treason (it’s not sane but insanity is legal), but trying to stick the magic man in public schools is treason. Our Wall of Separation between our governments, our public schools, and the insanity of religions, is sacred. Only a traitor would not respect our wall.

I agree torture is inappropriate and I should not have suggested it, but treason deserves at least a prison sentence and/or deportation. Of course if it was up to me, well, I better not talk about it.

What: “We can and will stop them.”

Yes of course. Christians must not be allowed to get away with anything. Even putting their Magician’s name on our money should not be allowed. Every time the Christian thugs get away with something, they try to get away with something else.

The problem is Christians never give up trying to tear down our wall of separation. They think their invisible friend is on their side, so laws, the Bill of Rights, and common sense mean nothing to them. They will never give up trying to stick god everywhere, and they will never give up trying to suppress the teaching of science. We should continue fighting them in court, but there has to be a better long term solution. Something must be done to put an end to these boring wars between Christians and our Bill of Rights, and between Christians and science. Unfortunately I don’t know what the solution is. I often doubt there is a solution. The magic man has completely infested this country. There are monuments to stupidity called churches everywhere. Politicians have to spend half their time pretending how holy they are. Only 15% of our country’s population accepts evolution without sticking god in there somewhere. I see the religion problem getting worse every year. Children are brainwashed to believe in magic before they learn how to walk. This child abuse will continue forever and there’s nothing that can be done about it.

I have though this since I heard that song that has the line “Jebus take the wheel”.

I think if xtians really believe that, whenever something starts to go wrong, just sit tight and let Jebus take over.

Your toddler runs to the top of a long set of stairs??? No worries, let good ol’ Jebus take care…. Just trust him.

Yes, OC is bad too but the Stockton, Modesto, Madera, and Sacramento areas have some of the most over-valued property in country. The central valley is often referred to as the Buybull Belt of CA. And Bakersfield? Waaahhhhh.

  27. DVanWechel says:

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
    (Proverbs 3:5,6)

Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.
    (Isaiah 25:9)

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
    (Matthew 6:31,32)

It would seems trusting in the “lord” is what is required. The bible is very specific on this. Nowhere in the bible could I find where it says “God helps those who help themselves”.

So, as Karen suggested, the wacky Christians in this country need to put their money where their mouth is and see how much they can trust their God.

  28. DVanWechel says:

Well, Jeebus should be able to get them out of their tricky mortgages and save them financially. Jeebus was all about the pursuit of personal wealth and they all certainly trust in that.

Anyone on this blog from Bakersfield? I live here, don’t know why, I just do. Anyway, not everyone here is a freek. There are quite a few humanist, secular, athiest types (me). That aside, I tried to get the attention of the board members and give them a little education on the Constitution. The board president was the only one who stuck to his guns.

The problem with xtians here is they are too dogmatic and too damned ignorant (think it’s all that inbreeding) to understand anything. Wrote letters to the paper, board members including that little pissant preacher. Didn’t get published until after it was all over.

City Council she-devil Sullivan started all this crap. She talks like she’s addressing a kindergarten class. Looking into her eyes is like staring into the pit of hell (if one existed).

Amazingly, what no one noticed with the poster that was ultimately approved was this. The Constitution covers the majority of the poster. Superimposed over this is the Bill of Rights in one area. The Declaration overlaps the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, all of which are faded and difficult to read if you could see the entire document to begin with. Across the top in bold lettering is a statement about civics or some such nonsense with the word “fundamental” underlined. The one document that stands out is the one with the description of the two mottos “e pluribus unium” and In god We Trust”. Boldly printed with, you guessed it, the offending motto taking up three quarters of the page.

    I agree with What!

WTF is wrong with American Atheists?!?!? The spokesperson is a guy who calls himself a Jew, admits to taking part in religious rituals and celebrating religious holidays and consistently preaches and supports Judaism on this blog, and has an attitude of “Quit & Give Up” when it comes to the mission of American Atheists and fighting theocracy and violations of the US Constitution.

If Madalyn Murray OHair had this attitude, there would be no American Atheists and there would still be Bible readings in public schools.

Michale Newdow didn’t have this attitude and message of “just give up and roll over for theocracy” for fighting “one Nation under God”. Ellen Johnson criticized him for calling Atheism a religion, but lets Dave preach Judaism (and giving up)on behalf of American Atheists. HYPOCRISY.

  42. Jimmy says:

In God We Trust is the national motto! Why can’t it be in schools? It is just stupid. Aetheists have already won. No state sponsored prayer is allowed in school. Why must we invade the privacy of a school in a place where people don’t think like we do and ideologically invade them! And by the way, I don’t think the school board in Bakersfield will be intimidated by bloggers.

You mean, by forcing the kids to say they put their trust in God?

I agree, that would be a horrible thing to do.

Also, please explain how the Atheists have already won?

Any time the constitution is upheld, AMERICA wins. We’re fighting for your rights as much as ours. Just because you can’t see that doesn’t make it not true.

In the present system, it’s clear that non-Theists are discriminated against. In the system we would like to see adopted (one where the government doesn’t inhibit or promote religion), no group is discriminated against based on their thoughts about deities.

Why is discrimination better than no discrimination?
