Well, I've rarely met a christian who wasn't also a hippocrite. (Spanders being the only exeption that comes to mind at the moment)

So what you describe might be the most christian nation of all!

A nation of xians is not the same as a xian nation.

Our Constitution is a wholly godless document and those who wish that we were founded as a xian nation are in serious need of American history lessons. I challenge any xians reading this to offer definitive historical evidence that the USA was founded as a xian nation. It can't be done.
Peter,

Don't forget the Christmas Eve Firebombing of Dresden in '44. It is said to have resulted in the deaths of more civilians than both atomic bombs dropped on Japan, put together.

Oh wait. That was THE DAY BEFORE Christmas. I guess that doesn't count. And they really had it comming to them on New Years Eve since they hadn't all died like good little Nazi's the week before.

Peter,

As I'm sure you are aware, the founding document of this country as a Nation is the Constitution. The word "God" doesn't appear anywhere in the text of this document.
Not an accident! Not meant to be established as a Theocracy.

However, there are certain examples in their (xtians) holy book which portray JC as being an uncaring asshole so it could be said that those who claim to be christians are behaving just like their model.

Is that what you were getting at?

If most of the topping on a pizza is pepperoni, but there's some mushrooms, and olives, and sausage and ham too, that doesn't mean you've got yourself a pepperoni pizza.

No this isn't a christian nation.

I'm hungry.

The whole notion of a "Christian nation" is nonsensical. Jesus focused solely on the eminent (he thought) coming of the Kingdom of God. He had no use for earthly governments. He laid out no guidelines for governance. He certainly did not describe a bicameral legislature, a limited executive, or a system of checks and balances.

In Jesus' view, all authority comes from God. If there were such thing as a "Christian nation" it would be, essentially, a dictatorship. That would be the only possible "Christian nation." A theocracy, in the most literal sense.

In the U.S., all authority derives from the people. That is the polar opposite of a "Christian nation."

The U.S. is not a "Christian nation."

Peter,

There are a few things that America might do as a Christian nation that I and probably everyone else in this blog ('cept phreedy) think is immoral. The consitutional amendment that that wonderful man in office tried to push through to ban gay marriage; very christian and very immoral. Also the constant veto of stem cell research; again very christian and very immoral. Supporting Israel despite all the shit that happens there...need I say more?

I'm glad obama isn't too high up in support after his rambling in the south.
Maybe running this nation as a xian theocracy for a few years might be a good thing. Sometimes we forget just how good something is until we lose it and as Americans it is easy to take our way of life and freedom for granted. Can you imagine the backlash if laws were passed and enforced mandating literal scritpural law? Women treated as property, gays, adulterers, and rebellious children stoned to death, compulsory church attendance, no business on Sunday, science replaced by superstition. A theocratic xian America wouldn't last five minutes.
Alex,

I think you are on to something. I am a 100% cotton kind of guy, but I would have a hard time giving up shellfish.

I'm all for stoning naughty people, but only those over eighteen years of age. Smoking is bad for developing lungs, and all ;-) Oh wait, you said stoned to death. I'm sorrry, I don't do herbicide.
