http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071014/COL01/710140649I think this piece of crap when to college with me. I think I know him. I feel somehow dirty.I am sooo sick of ijits like ol’ Mitch, blaming music and ::ghasp:: ATHEISTS for the school shooting in Cleveland. They are so quick to point at the rise of Atheism, but kinda forget that the shooters themselves have invariably been religious to some extent. In fact, I think the boy in Peducah was the son of a preacher, and the boys in Jonesboro asked to see their minister as soon as they were arrested. Can anyone confirm this?Let’s try to show my old friend where he should be pointing his fingers. Can anyone find information as to the religious upbringing of any school shooters?NEW CONTESTS: Free 6-month membership to American Atheists for the person who finds the most crimes committed by religious children, whether it be in the name of the religion or not. Omit massive holocausts like Darfur or Germany. Concentrate on school shootings anad gang activity.ANOTHER contest will be awarded to the one who finds crimes committed by Atheist children, for whatever reason. Again think individual or small group activity.Ready? GO

I’ve struggled through some of Dawkins writtings. I find his starting point of “arrogance” hard to stomach.
I knew you’d be one to have actually read some christian authors…
Godfrey,
You can thank the war on drugs for that statistic. The fact is, poor neighborhoods are targeted by vice squads, knocking down doors and dragging people off into the street. Rich people sit at home and do cocaine without fear that their door will be kicked down. Besides, if you are caught with one gram of crack, you are charged and tried as though you had 100 grams of powder. The difference is, crack sells for $5 a hit, where as powder sells for up to $100 a gram.
The war on drugs is really a war on minorities. Arrest them for drugs. Imprison them. If and when they get out, they can never vote or own a gun ever again. Can you say, “Disenfranchised.”
The War on Drugs: Doing for marijuana what prohibition did for alcohol. Puts it in the hands of criminals and makes them filthy rich and ultimately violent to protect their turf. When was the last time you heard of Adolfus Coors putting out a hit on Anheuser Busch for encroachment on his turf?
Alex,
Who was the dumbass in the video that challenged Dawkins to go give his speech in Saudi Arabia? Does he realize that if HE went to Saudi Arabia and gave one of HIS speeches on Christianity, it would be HIS farewell speech? Why didn’t he challenge him to give one of his speeches in Bosnia? Oh, right. Bosnian Muslims are tolerant of other faiths. In his little world, all Muslims are fanatics.
I love how they are amazed at how Dawkins, Hitchins, Harris et. al. use the popular media to get their message out. I mean, we all know Christians would NEVER do THAT.
And my all time favorite line: They’re really ‘in your face’ with their Atheism. Yeah, right fella. Like Christians are commanded to ‘keep the good news to themselves’.
Placenta,
I don’t need to read Hans Christian Anderson, or the Brothers Grimm, to know I don’t believe in fairytales. Why would I have to read books by Christian authors to know I don’t believe in the supernatural?
ren
i have to disagree that the war on drugs is a war on nonwhites.people are not in prison because recreational drugs are illegal they are in prison because they chose to break the law.too many think if we get rid of supernatural beliefs that we won’t have these moral laws.well i’m here to tell you wrong there are plenty of us atheists who will be just as hardline as any fundie.i know you know this is true because you faced nationalist atheists who were cultural christians in bosnia.we atheist/cultural christians will not go down without a fight.
Why is ingesting a substance, any substance, illegal? The amount of devastation wrought by alcohol and nicotine VASTLY outweigh the ills of all other drugs combined. More people die each year from reactions to Tylenol, than die of illicit drug overdoses.
The government has no business in what I do in the privacy of my own home, so long as it harms nobody but myself. Once I step out in public and start problems, or injure someone, then and only then should the authorities consider it a crime.
Of course, we can always outlaw tobacco and alcohol and build ten times as many prisons as we have now. Talk about a growth industry! Warehousing human beings for profit. How very moral. How very Christian. Whatever happened to the land of the free?
Ever been to the Nederlands? I would have no problems whatsoever with my wife walking down any street in the middle of the night by herself. Not so in any major city in America.
I encourage you to do some study on the effectiveness, or rather, the lack thereof, of prohibition of alcohol. Notice the similarities between gangland violence and the illicit nature of the substances involved. Even the majority of property crime can be attributed to addicts doing whatever is necessary to get their next fix. I say give it to them for free, and if they want to kill themselves, as long as they harm nobody else, more power to them.
You want to keep spending $50 billion a year arresting close to 100,000 pot smokers annually? Go right ahead, but we will never arrest our way out of the problem, and all we do in the process is to ruin the potential livelyhood of individuals unfortunate enough to get caught. We could never build enough jails for the 1 out of 3 Americans that have admitted to trying pot. Talk about pouring good money down a shithole!
Oh yeah, and one more thing. Thanks to the War on Drugs, the potentcy of pot has increased from around 3-5% when Nixon was in office, but now primo chronic has close to 30% THC. It can be argued that the war on drugs has made drugs cheaper and more available. Don’t believe me? Ask your high school aged children how difficult it is to obtain at school. A recent gov’t report stated that it was easier to obtain marijuana, than cigarettes for kids under 16. Regulation and taxation, anyone?
reason,
This sentence makes no sense at all. The fact is, if drugs were not illegal, nobody would be breaking any laws. Ergo, nobody would be in prison for a non-crime.
Assume there was a law passed outlawing Atheism. Now let me paraphrase your statement to show you how ridiculous it sounds.
People are not in jail because they are atheists, they are in jail because they CHOSE to break the law. If it is a stupid law…people should not be thrown in jail for breaking it.
I postulate that the war on drugs is unconstitutional. The constitution guarantees the rights of Life, Liberty, and the persuit of happiness. Yet, people routinely have their lives ruined, by having their liberty curtailed for simply pursuing happiness.
Before anyone starts hucking empty beer bottles at me: How many of you derive pleasure (happiness) from the consumption of small amounts of alcohol? How many of you would stop drinking, if alcohol were outlawed again, but you had a safe, steady supply at your disposal? How many of those, would be seriously pissed off if they got arrested and denied their liberty for persuing simple happiness? Think a felony conviction might ruin your life?
So there you have it. Life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. The war on drugs is unconstitutional!
Ren,
HEAR, HEAR!
You are right on the money on this one. In fact, there are growing numbers of law enforcement people that are actually getting on this particular bandwagon. They go by the acronym L.E.A.P. – Law Enforcement Against Prohibition.
Satan,
Thanks. I am familiar with L.E.A.P. In fact, I recommend a book called ‘Drug War Addiction’ by sheriff Bill Masters. Subtitled: Notes from the Front Lines of America’s #1 Policy Disaster
It is a damning expose of the addiction to the drug war money by the beurocrats that perpetuate said war, by one of it’s former stars.
Ren,
According to the latest babel numerologist/interpreters I don’t get to qualify as satan anymore; the new number is supposed to be 616 now.
I’m soooo disappointed.
666,
Well then… dreifach sechs it is.
I wonder if anyone has clued Iron Maiden in on the new number? I can hear it now… Six…One, six… the number of the beast…
Yeah, I guess that still works. Iron fucking Maiden, dude! (He says with both hands thrust into the air in the symbol of the devil)
Here is a website for our friends Phreedm, Im4gvn, Truechristian, Susan Hill, and even Spanders. I apologize if I left anyone out.

About the boys seeing the priest when they were arrested, they probably are feeling pretty foul about what they did and want to get it out of their conscience. TXaetheist, the media is WAYYY liberal!
Jimmy,
Exactly! Why, I was just saying the other day that Faux News and Rush Limpballs are virtual communists.
Oh wait, they’re not part of the ‘media’. They fall under entertainment. My bad!
