Jena 6 Thanking jesus

There was a ?press conference? today with the Jena 6 prosecutor DA Reed Walters. Or there was supposed to be a press conference but instead Walters played host for a gathering which sounded more like a revivalist tent meeting. ,While reporters noted they had never before been allowed to bring cameras into the courtroom, Walters had quite a show set up complete with about 60 local residents – described as ?white supporters of the DA? on CNN who broke into applause when he appeared. I guess they had loved his performance back in 2006 when Black students protested the hanging of nooses in the ?white tree.? Then Walters arrived at the school with a group of police and warned the peaceful student protest that ?I could end your lives with the stroke of a pen.? This is the same Walters who consistently claimed ?This case is not and never has been about race? and who ?credits the ?imaginations? of African-Americans for the heightened racial tensions around the case.? Today, his words were less overtly threatening but the racist message was just as clear.Walters talked a whole lot about Jesus – and not much about justice. He did make a special note that it was only through the ?direct intervention of Jesus!? that last week?s demonstrations were peaceful – a pretty outrageous claim when the demonstration was a peaceful and amazing gathering and participants even picked up the trash before heading out of town.

Of course, it was also jesus that controlls everyone when they do good, and Satan that takes over when they do bad. But we all have free will.

The whites in Jena are living in the past. I just happened to watch Dr. Phil last Friday when he had both blacks and whites on his show. Every white who spoke up insisted there was no race problem in Jena. I certainly do not condone the beating the white boy got from the six blacks, but I’m thinking the incident might have been avoided had the white students who hung the nooses been punished in the beginning.

IMO the good white citizens who deny have any racial problems need to wake up. If you have a tree only whites can sit under then there’s a race problem, enough said.

  2. reason says:

the DA over reacted but media is to blame for fanning racial hate.now AP news service reports both races gathered under the tree and the nooses were cut down because both races were playing with them.there has been much injustice done to blacks but now the media has a get whitey posture.you never hear about horrible crimes against whites on the networks you have to go to racist websites to find out.it cannot bode well for the future if whites have to get news from extremist sources.being called a racist has no more stigma because liberal elite ignore crimes against whites an hardship cause by illegal aliens for low/mid income whites.

  3. pha says:

But is anyone asking the question, did the kid who got beaten hang the noose? If not then isn’t it racism to take out all your frustration on someone just because the kid was white?

  4. alexatheist says:

In other local (Chapel Hill, NC area) race relations news, Duke apologises to the lacrosee players accused of rape:

    http://www.cnn.com/2007/LAW/04/12/duke.lacrosse/

  5. reason says:

according to all reports the beaten kid was a loudmouth but did not hang either noose.

  6. billh says:

GOdFree: Whites and blacks were allowed to gather under the tree. The princible even told them that. The kids that did put up the nooses as a prank were punished, and suspended. The tree that did nothing to anyone but provide shade and beauty was cut down due to this. The blacks (especially Bell) had criminal records. Do you see many people calling this beating a hate crime? But they are calling the noose hanging a hate crime. The kid beaten had nothing to do with it. The beating had nothing to do with the noose, it was only used as an excuse. The blacks involved were out to beat up whitey. That is all.

  7. billh says:

Alex, and guess who we will NEVER see an apology from. Sharpton, and Jackson, the Racist vampires. Never have and never will apologize. Nor the woman that slandered them nor the blacks and whites that convicted them before any trial.

  8. Rusty Shackleford says:

    Reason

you never hear about horrible crimes against whites on the networks you have to go to racist websites to find out.

Uh, O.J. Simpson anybody? And whenever a pretty white girl goes missing, there’s 24/7 coverage on FOX “News.”

DeepDiver, the core of the Jena controversy wasn’t that some crimes are worse than others; rather, it was the extremely disparate treatment that the DA gave two very similar crimes.

  9. alexatheist says:

    Rusty,
The only reason the OJ Simpson trial recieved so much attention was because of his celebrity status. The main stream media would have swept this story under the rug if it had been a poor black guy.
Have you heard of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom? Of course not because the brutal r_ape-murder of these two whites by a gang of black thugs in Knoxville, TN just isn’t good for maintaining the politically correct dogma that we all have thrust upon us. Just last week here in my area a twelve year old white girl called Emily Haddock who was home from school sick was killed by a group of four black savages who broke into her home and killed her (http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=triangle&id=5673903). People around here are calling for nooses to be strung in this case.
Wonder if Sharpton and Jackson will throw their support behind this little girl’s family? Of course not because crime only matters when it is white against black and must be downplayed or ignored when it is black against white.
Did you know that for every white-on-black crime there are FIFTY black-on-white crimes? Some people are even calling it an unreported race war where whites are singled out by blacks for violence. As an atheist I tend to shape my worldview on facts instead of feelings so is it any wonder that I unapologetically lock my car doors if black people are around or that I cross the street to avoid black people? Statisitics tell me that as a white man I am at high risk of being the victim of black violence and I don’t give a fuck if someone gets their feelings hurt because my safety is worth more than that.

  10. billh says:

Rusty, I think there is a huge differenct between a symbol being hung, to near murder being done. Not to mention the symbol was their first offense, and the animals beating the other student had prvious convictions. Where is the hate CRIME.

  11. ej says:

    deepdiver,

yes, but you’re leaving out a pretty crucial piece of the story: what happened between the nooses and the beating of the white kid.

black students were assaulted by a white student with a sawed-off shotgun at a convenience store where (i think) the white kid worked. the white kid was charged with a misdemeanor.

the black kids who beat up the white kid–with their hands–were charged with attempted murder, later reduced to assault with a dangerous weapon. that weapon? gym shoes.

clearly, anyone who assaults anyone else should be punished, but as rusty points out, the discrepancy between the charges smacks of racism.

alex, it sounds like you’ve read the infamous study of black-on-white crime released a couple years ago (i can’t recall the author). you should read the criticism–the study has now been totally discredited, and there has been some great work on the pathetic statistical analysis it contains. also, if i recall correctly, it was funded by a quasi-white supremacist group, and the only people who distribute it now are white supremacists.

  12. Rusty Shackleford says:

Alex, you don’t hear about most local crimes in the national media. Local crimes don’t make national news unless they have some kind of lurid hook, like the nooses in the Jena case.

Have you heard of Demetria Bracey? She was a black Ole Miss student killed by a white man, who was just convicted of the murder. The fact that this isn’t national news isn’t because there’s some racist media conspiracy; it’s simply because run-of-the-mill crimes aren’t national news.

DeepDiver, in Jena there had been an assault of a black kid by whites that preceded the assault of the white kid by the black kids. One of the white assailants was charged with simple battery and put on probation. Contrast that to the black students being charged with aggravated battery and attempted murder (with Bell being tried as an adult). It was this discrepancy, or perceived discrepancy, that led to people saying the DA was racially biased.

  13. GodFree&Glad says:

I’ve read quite a bit about the Jena incident and the later incidents which led up to it and nowhere have I seen anything in print or otherwise that “both races were playing” with the nooses. What I have read is that the principal wanted to expell the three white students who hung the nooses, but was over-ruled by the school board. A white female employed by the school said on the Dr. Phil show last Friday that the three who hung the nooses were punished, but that the punishment was “secret” and she did not feel she had the authority to say what the punishment was.

Furthermore, the fact is that the one black boy, Bell, was tried as an adult, convicted and given something like 20 to life. So yes, nobody’s arguing that he isn’t guilty but the sentence certainly smells of a racist prosector. Many in this country have received lesser sentences for actual murder. And yes, Bell had three prior juvenile incidents on his record before the beating took place, but the fact remains that a higher court has thrown out his conviction and yet until a few days ago he still sat in jail without bond.

So I go back to my original premise: If you have a tree where a black kid felt the need to go to the principal and ask if blacks could sit under that tree, then when blacks did sit under said tree they found nooses hanging from the limbs of that tree the next day, then wake up and smell the coffee: There’s a race problem!

  14. billh says:

So one to three kids hung some ropes in the trees makes an entire town racist? Kids let me remind you. Yes some people get off with less time for murder. Those are most likely 1st time offenders. This Bell kid is bad. He would never have done 20 years. Perhads 7 years, if he behaved himself. You say hands then tennis shoes, makes it sound like kids playing in the playground. Kids 150 to 250 pounds, kicking and stomping on someother kids head on the ground is to me attempted murder. It is known that that kid had nothing to do with the ropes. Even if he did, that does not justify the actions.

Basically, Bell has been in trouble before and should know his actions were bad. Do we wait until he is 18 and then he kills someone to charge him with murder? There is something called a gray area. You should know at 16 that stomping on a head can kill someone. They flat out did not care.

  15. Rusty Shackleford says:

DeepDiver, nobody’s excusing what Bell and his friends did. The point was that blacks and whites got different levels of justice from the DA. Having lived in the South virtually all my life, I can assure you that’s not hard to believe.

  16. ej says:

so, deepdiver, you agree with the DA that shoes are a deadly weapon but a sawed-off shotgun isn’t?

  17. Tim Ren says:

I’m staying out of this one. I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot polecat.

  18. karen says:

At Grambling St., which houses an Elementary school, the teachers took it upon themselves to bring history alive for their 5-6 year old students by demonstrating lynching. They hung nooses in a tree and one woman teacher even held her granddaughter/student up and slipped the rope around the child’s neck.

    Hey Lady, here’s yer sign!

    Talk about idiocy.
I tried to find a link for this but couldn’t. Just saw it earlier tonight on CNN. The Uni made a public statement apologizing for the actions and is not allowing the teachers involved to be interviewed.
All the people I saw in the clip were black, but can you imagine if the teacher had been white and had tried that shit?

  19. GodFree&Glad says:

Sorry to say I can imagine if the teacher had been white. We have serious race problems in this country and they seem about as destructive to me as the over-abundance of religion all around us. I just don’t know why in the hell we can’t all get along???

Oh, and forgot to toss the homosexual problem into the mess. We need to all get over that one too.

  21. GodFree&Glad says:

Gramblinite editor-in-chief DeErick Henry said, “I think it was a sensitive thing to do. It was history taught to children, but I think it was too aggressive.”

    SENSITIVE? Is that guy insane?

  22. billh says:

ej, I must have missed something. What is this about a shotgun? All I am saying is the punishment should be different between hanging a childish and offensive symbol and a attempt at murder. Are you saying that the kids (not to mention kids with no prior criminal history) that put up the rope, should get 12 to 20 years?

Yes there is a race problem in this country and it is being kept alive by people like Sharpton and Jackson. Most (note I said MOST)of the racism I see today is from the black side. (Boy am I going to get it now)

  23. Tim Ren says:

    Karen,

I am all about living history, but I think someone was just a little too eager, to put it very kindly.

What a bunch of morons. Not to mention the double standard. Had that been a white teacher especially, or any race other than black, there would be total hell to pay by the likes of Sharpton and Jackson. Anyone want to bet we will not hear a peep from either of those two over this incident?

  24. Rusty Shackleford says:

DeepDiver: there were two assaults ON THE BLACK KIDS BY WHITES before the assault on Barker. They were barely punished. Those are the other crimes we’re talking about, NOT the nooses. Look up “Jena 6″ on Wikipedia for a timeline.

  25. GodFree&Glad says:

    DeepDiver,

You’re not going to get it from me. Personally I despise both Sharpton and J. Jackson. Bill Cosby, on the other hand, gets high marks from me. Blacks are their own worst enemies IMO.

My point originally was only that Jena does indeed have a race problem no matter how they deny it. Of course, Jena is only one of many (most?)places in this country with the problem.

I think it is really telling that the place where one would think blacks and whites would first come together would be the churches, yet they are for the most part, totally segragated places. Go figure. Nevermind, you can’t figure xians out.

And evidently that prosecutor is a good xian judging from his statement about Jesus keeping the peace. No doubt he reads his bible and knows that blacks should be put in their place. Of course he can’t come right out and say it, but he can ignore a shotgun in the hands of a white boy, etc.

By the way, I believe every kid who took part in that beating deserves some time in jail.

  26. billh says:

GodFree: We are pretty much in agreement. I think racism is just about everywhere if you look hard enough. I feel it may have been overplayed in Jena. Going to look up Jena in Wiki now.

  27. billh says:

Rusty: What assaults? I read Wiki report and learned quite a bit more.

1st, it looks like these 6 were looking for trouble. They were not invited to a party and tried to crash it. They were known trouble makers and there were other blacks in the party. I see no racism here.

The gun? Differing accounts here, but no one said the white kid was threatening the black kids with it.

Barker has several guns and got in trouble once for bringing the hunting rifle in his truck into a gun free zone. He was punished for it.

(Not to mention it was hunting season.)

The punishment for the original 3 was much more severe than I originally thought.

Also did not know that Bell was also charged for assault for punching a girl in the face.

The court showed absolutely no racism that I could see either.

Thanks for leading me to Wiki on this matter.

  28. Rusty Shackleford says:

You can look at it through whatever lens you like, DeepDiver. I just wanted you to know that there was more to the story. You seem to only want to see racism of blacks against whites. That’s fine, whatever. Maybe you live in a world where that’s all that exists.

  29. billh says:

Rusty, I do appreciate knowing more and you obviously don’t understand where I was coming from. Racism exists in all colors, creeds, social groups, etc. All I am trying to say is the racism card was called up when it should not have been called up.
