Sure, the Emmy’s are boring. Indeed, they are so boring people make jokes AT the Award show about how boring it is.But now, the Emmys are bigoted. Say what you want about God and Jesus, as long as it’s positive and thankful. If it’s positive and thankful, it doesn’t matter who gets offended or left out.BUT… disavow Jesus, and you might as well be swearing, and you’ll get bleeped.Folks, this is discrimination, pure and simple. Theistic talk is welcome, Atheistic talk is not. Truly an uneven playing field, from the good folks who gave us the most boring television in the world.Dave Says: Watch something else.
LOS ANGELES – Before Kathy Griffin won a creative arts Emmy last weekend for her reality show, “My Life on the D-List,” she joked that an award would move her to the C-list. She was right: “C” as in censored. The TV academy said her raucous acceptance speech will be edited when the event, which was taped, is shown Saturday on the E! channel. The main prime-time Emmy Awards air the next night on Fox.”Kathy Griffin’s offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast on Saturday night,” the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said in a statement Monday. In her speech, Griffin said that “a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus.”She went on to hold up her Emmy, make an off-color remark about Christ and proclaim, “This award is my god now!”The comedian’s remarks were condemned Monday by Catholic League President Bill Donohue, who called them a “vulgar, in-your-face brand of hate speech.”According to the TV academy and E!, when the four hour-plus ceremony is edited into a two-hour program, Griffin’s remarks will be shown in “an abbreviated version” in which some language may be bleeped. SEND EMAIL TO TELL THEM WHAT YOU THINK
No Mr. Donohue, Hate is when you turn away from people being raped repeatedly over decades, or siding with Nazis, or holding onto your money while people die of starvation. This is Kathy’s personal Atheistic opinion, and last time I checked that was still allowed.
Conspiracy theory: check
Anti-semite: check
reason wins the atheist crackpot award again.
Israel isn’t the ME aggressor, they are not the barbarians hanging gays, and stoning rape victims.
There is an easy mental exercise we can all do at home. If Israel were to not exist anymore, would the asshole islamofascists shut the fuck up about their jihad and mohammed cartoons? NO WAY.
Israel is not the problem, Islam, and religion in general is.
Ok so my friend at the airline told me that there are no flights on Fri on El Al because of the holiday rosh hashana. See? I said that there was probably a reasonable explanation. Whew!
You just have to love WND
How dare she take credit for the honor herself! We all know that the god-guy did it for her.
There have been MANY reality shows where at least one contestant is convinced the god-guy is helping them.
Is the god-guy hooked on reality tv? Is that why he’s ignoring starving children? Time to take away his TV privileges.
There was this very devout christian on the current season of “Big Brother” who has been praying like crazy through all the episodes for her god to help her and smite her enemies. Last night she was evicted from the house and she thanked her god for losing.
Iran, what a bunch of trouble. I believe too that we will attack them. I have many mixed feelings about this. They really have more to do with terrorism than Iraq ever did. The leader of Iran is far crazier than even our ex-puppet Saddam. They are openly developing nukes with the expressed goal of nuking a democracy(Israel is not without guilt, by far). It would also be better to deal with them now, than when they have the technology to send nukes to places worldwide. Unfortunately, we have wasted years in Iraq and have trashed our military since 9/11. We are far weaker than we were just six years ago, not the best time to go into a REAL war. We should really do some preparation to take on such a task. We have destroyed our credibility worldwide, and nuked the sympathy we had directly after 9/11. If we take on Iran, we will need allies and support. If we use Iraq as a jumping point to go into Iran, we will have no way to retreat, as Iraq will turn on us soon as we remove troops to send to Iran. We would only allow our troops to be crushed from the front and the back,a poor strategy. This is a very difficult problem. We are likely to be hit by suicide bombers as well as standard military means. Very messy.
In all, we should have finished with Afghanistan, then took on Iran, and left Iraq under sanctions. Instead we attacked one of the worlds weakest nations, and got caught up in a loose/loose situation. We have given years of prep time to Iran, and even warned them of our intentions to attack. Bad, bad strategy if we want to win this.
I may be wrong on some of these points, the Iraqis do hate Iran for the most part and may not attempt to attack us while our pants are down in Iran. I am just thinking out loud and throwing my thoughts into the discussion. Thanks for your patience.
This made me realize how young the posters here have to be (or else ignorant of the facts):
“since Iran is the one who started all of this”.
The good ol’ US assassinated the leader of Iran and inserts it’s own puppet (the shah of Iran -later an exile due to the fundamentalist ayatollah), and you believe that THEY started it?
Wake up and smell your bullshit!
The rest of the world knew what was going on (still do as they are not as subjected to the nationalist, one-sided crap that passes for news in this country).
reason,
I think there’s some room under the bridge for you as well.
mxracer,
First, your question is disingenuous.
It implies that if the answer is yes the Islamofascists would still have their jihad even if Israel was not there then that means Israel should exist and is “all good”.
Israel is only there because the jews believe they are fulfilling biblical prophecy. It is this crazy belief which has made Israel aggressive in their lust for the land in their prophecy and the palestinians have paid with their lives and possessions.
No persecuted group in the history of the world has been given as much as the jews. All Israel does for our country is take billions upon billions of our tax dollars and pull us into fighting their wars.
Without us Israel WOULDN’T exist.
As for the “islamofascists” I assume you mean Al Quaeda, a loose group of people who hate america who managed ONE attack in six years. I for one am not impressed.
You really want to kill “islamofascists” then pour all of the war money into alternative energy and NEVER BUY OIL AGAIN. The entire middle east economy is based on oil. We could have destrpoed them without ever firing a bullet.
phreedm,
I have noticed from your political comments you are as much a zealot politically as you are religiously and unfortunately you are not a reasoned person.
A great experiment for a person of your religious radicalism and warmongering is to close your eyes. Imagine jesus walking barefoot downtown, with a bunch of guys following him around. They have no possessions, they help the poor, they go into banks and flip money trays.
Now, who ae you?
Certainly you are no xian?
Do you really really really think jesus would support the republican party? Do you think jesus would approve of you as a person? If, so why?
If we attack Iran unprovoked or even provoked, our country will go bankrupt. We don’t have any money for this, hell we don’t even have enough military for this.
I think you are a joke phreedm.
darwinisis,
first, i don’t want to speak for mxracer, but i think he/she was responding to the claim that a few people make, that US support for israel is the chief cause of arab anti-americanism. (sure it’s a cause, but the chief one? probably not.) i didn’t see the implication of the conclusion you infer–if it’s there, you’re right, it’s illogical.
second,
yes, israel is located where it is because of crazy zionist ideas, but the reality is that most israeli jews are quite secular and not zionists.
it’s no longer biblical prophecy that drives israeli violence, it’s realpolitik.
maybe, but, how is this relevant?
no, our leaders GIVE billions and billions of dollars to israel. there’s a difference.
and you are grossly oversimplifying the iraq war (what other wars are you alluding to, by the way?), which is not surprising, since you go onto say:
almost none of the oil in the US comes from the middle east, nevermind those middle eastern countries that support terrorism.
do some research before you repeat what you read on the ANSWER website or wherever you heard that.
furthermore, this isn’t true at all, and ignores that the USSR was once a major ally of israel–had the US not supported israel, the USSR would have.
also, don’t forget that israel won two wars in its infancy, defying the expections of almost everyone, without US support.
while domestic, xian terrorists worry me more than muslim fundamentalists, and even here in NYC i’m more likely to be hit by lightning twice than die in a terrorist attack, you can’t just dismiss them out of hand.
there have been plenty of thwarted attacks, both before and after 9/11/01.
sorry about that long post.
and re: iran, 666 is totally on point. the US made this mess for itself.
if only our government were as brave as kathy griffin and took responsibility for its actions.
ej,
No longer biblical prophecy that drives them? Whatever, everything israel does is based on zionism it’s the whole reason the illegal israel settlers leave the land they are on and that condition created makes and “peace” process impossible.
The relevence of the jews taking billions upon billions of dollars to buy weapons and fund their radical ideology is that if the us, britain, and every other country would stop funding them they wouldn’t exist or they would make peace in the middle east in a new york minute.
You say:
and that is just a ridiculous assertion, we just “give” them money. The Israeli lobby group is one of the most powerful demanding lobbying group in washington and if you are a politican and you don’t give them EXACTLY what they demand for Israel they fund your opponent to the teeth to destroy your political future.
They blackmail our leaders to STEAL our money.
I propose we should take all the war funding money to develope energy independence so that we no longer buy oil. You say “But most of our oil doesn’t come from there” you aren’t thinking it through, if we develope energy alternatives all of the industrialized countries will adopt them THEREBY causes the oil markey to crash regardles of who buys from whom.
Sorry meant to write that they WON’T leave the land they are on
darwinisis,
wow. just… wow. talk about naive oversimplification.
first, you need to distinguish between zionist radical settlers and the israeli government.
second, you need to bone up on your basic political science. the reasons that their govt alternately supports and doesn’t support the settlers have very little to do with zionism. the likud party in particular has to walk a tight rope to maintain its governing coalition, which usually includes parties supporting and against the settlers.
then so does NARAL, the NAACP, the AMA, and every other lobbying organization.
our political system is FAR from perfect and the influence of lobbyists is unfortunate, but it’s unfair to pick out one lobby and single them out.
unless, of course, you’re assuming they’re stealing it because they’re jewish.
that’s a great idea and one i’d support. i never said i was against the development of alternative energy, i said that americans not buying gas wouldn’t make a lick of difference to any arab nation (even if you ignore the absurdity of that proposition).
I have noticed that there are many on this blog that lean toward the opinion that the radical sects of islam are ALL our fault. I think this is a point of view held by many of the left leaning types of people. I once believed the same thing. While the west’s policy’s have a great deal to do with it, it is not all our fault. We have made many mistakes in how we deal with islam, we have made some of the worst of them with our puppets and have greatly inflated the problem. But, the thinking that the radicals adopt is homegrown right in the middle east. They truly do not even see all their options they have. They consider violence the only option to their perceived loss of status in the world and the failure to deal with Israel. Their leaders ruined any opportunity to use the creation of Israel to their advantage, they basically refused to even go to the table and make a better deal for the muslims living there. I am not saying that the jewish and british policy makers are without guilt, I am saying that the muslims could have benefited from the deal much more than they have.
In short, I would rather some not give the muslim extremists less guilt than we give christian extremists. They are using the same beliefs to remove rights and freedoms, from their own and others around the world. We should stand together and firmly on the fact that this kind of thinking is wrong and counterproductive. There is no excuse for this kind of thinking, here or abroad. I will not use the bad conditions that muslims have as an excuse for violence and ignorance.
I apologize if this ruffles feathers, but it is a more reasonable way to look at what is happening. We did not pass out the books that these extremists read. We did not force them to violence. We did however limit their options and created an environment that was ripe for their kind of religion. It is however, not our fault. Those people choose to think the way they do, just as domestic christians do. Neither are excused.
ej,
You know that is just lame and typical to imply just because someone thinks the whole israeli thing was and still is a HUGE mistake that they are a bigot.
I think no more or less of the Israelis than the rest of the middle east. It’s a massive catastrophic nightmare for the people living there and for us and the governments there are to blame including Israel.
And it is ALL caused by radical religious views. I will not choose sides between Israelis and Muslims like it’s some kind of chess game. There is fault all around I am will not stand for being called a bigot because I won’t water down the horrible acts done by israel.
darwinisis,
when you single out one group–in this case jewish, israeli lobbyists–and don’t provide a justification for why they should be held to a different standard than everyone else, it suggests bigotry, especially when you are reinforcing a widely-held stereotype (in this case about jews and money).
combined with your confusion about israeli politics and gross oversimplifications, your comments begin to sound like a wild conspiracy theory.
if it’s not bigotry, please explain to me why AIPAC is “stealing” money, while other groups aren’t.
*******OFF TOPIC*********
Dr. Barth Green, chairman of the department of neurological surgery at the University of Miami school of medicine, speaking about Kevin Everett, the Buffalo Bills player injured over the weekend.
Kathy Griffin is god!
jc,
How intellectually dishonest. You claimed the U.S. just “gives” Israel billions of dollars. I answered that we don’t give Israel anything, Israel lobbys, pressures and blackmails our politicians thereby stealing OUR TAX MONEY.
Seeing how our conversation had nothing to do with other lobbying groups why would you ASSUME I was only against the Israeli lobby???
As a matter of fact I am against ANY corporate or foriegn government lobbying in it’s current form.
But I saw no reason to have to go into my entire opinion of lobbying groups since I had no idea an ass hat like yourself would try and turn what I said into a bigoted comment.
This conversation is over and I don’t plan on ever discussing anything with you again.
JustinW,
I hate to say it but sometimes we just have to learn to let go. Eventually we’ll have to stop talking about Sep. 11. I know it was a horrific event and it changed an entire generation. Dwelling on it won’t change what happened, it will only bring more sadness to people living now.
Of course, it’s just my opinion. If it’s necessary to pick at the scabs still for some people, so be it. Some of us want to get on with the healing.
3000 americans on sept 11, 2000. 100s of thousands of Iraqis since then. There is no question who the monsters are here and it is our extremist government and its xian enablers. Man some of you are looking through rose-colored glasses with blinders are the sides.
ej, thanks for holding down the fort.
dawnisis:
Yes, they’d still be on their stupid jihad against everything western, with or without Israel. I couldn’t care less if Israel existed or not. What I wanted to show was that appeasing these assholes by giving some or all of Israel back to “palestineans” wouldn’t make a shit of difference.
An islamofascist is the same as a christofascist, those who cheer on wanton self destruction & chaos in the name of superstition, or sit idly by & say nothing. It’s the entire German country who legalized polygamy for pisslamic men only. It’s the New Zealand politicians who would not publicly condemn sharia law, only to say that it “might be acceptable in some other country”.
FUCK THAT. If those assholes want to saddle up to the big boy/girl table, then they need to learn how to act civilized. If they’re not, they can rot in their 3rd world hell hole.
PS, only 2% of US imported oil comes from the ME. Not consuming hydrocarbons wouldn’t make a difference, China & India will buy it all.
You’re almost into reason’s crackpot territory with the zionist blackmail conspiracy theory BS. 40-50% of Israel is atheist/agnostic, I’m real sure they’re into zionism.
Try this: Israel has elected officials, anybody can serve, no matter their (ir)religious views or homosexual preferences.
Let’s say we now gave Israel to the jackoffs. It would turn into a theocracy, women would be stoned to death for being raped, and you can bet your sweet ass atheists would get the noose too.
Yeah, let’s give Israel back to the religion of peace, everything will be better.
Bones,
Thanks for posting the off topic thing about Dr. Barth Green speaking about the Buffalo Bill’s player who was badly injured recently.
His comments were refreshing. Makes me wonder if, since he seemed to feel no need to bring god into his statement, he could be an atheist. Hope so, but I imagine some xian will surely call it god’s miracle rather than man’s.
mxracer:
A breath of fresh air. I got tired of arguing w/some of these folks. Nice going. You too, ej.
Ummm…last I checked, it was 25% secular. Zionism is a secular movement.
Something I’ve been saying for months now – especially for those who blather on about ‘apartheid’.
Hear, hear.
HAHA ok so you guys dont belive ( or most of you ) thats great it is most definatly a personal choice and no one else can make that choice for you . most of the posts on this page are anti religious so if you dont like the fact that she was censored for a differing view why will this post be deleted ? my view is different than most of yours and will not be on this page very long im sure
so here is the main message
ON JUDGEMENT DAY ALL WILL KNEAL BEFORE THE LORD AND BEG FOR FORGIVNESS but to you he will say
leave me i nver knew you .. remember this when it happens you have been warned
believer76
No, your pitiful post won’t get deleted, even though you just had to get preachy at the end, which is against the rules. (tsk, tsk.)It will stand so everyone can laugh at your outlandish beliefs. And lousy spelling.
Go on and wear out your knees. I’m with Kathy. “Suck it, believer76’s lord.”
YOU censored the reason why Christians are upset. Or you did not research the WHOLE story. That is usually the case with these topics.
The reason,
Not the joke about celebrities thanking Jesus.
Fine it is always done, but the ?suck it Jesus? part, crosses into areas that other groups like blacks, gays, Imus etc., have paid a price for voicing their remarks.
Honest debate would reveal that everyone wants to say and do whatever they want to Christians..Plain and simple.
It would be offensive to any religius group to tell their God to perform a filty sex act?.I dare her to say it loudly for Allah to do the same?
She will never.
If she said this about Allah she would have her head cut off or be in hiding with Salom Rushdie.
If you are gonna voice an opinion, shouldn?t you consider the ?facts? of the real story?
Comment by jacqueline | September 12, 2007
jacqueline, do you really feel that much self-pity? Is it really that rough being a Christian, for you? Is the leader of the country not a professing Christian? Are not the vast majority of elected officials Christian?
You have the freedom to be offended by anything you like. Where people have freedom of speech, they are permitted to be offensive. What is not acceptable is for someone to incite violence or other criminal acts because of race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.
Besides, how can it be offensive to insult something that you believe doesn’t exist? Blasphemy is a victimless crime.
It is inherent in Christianity that the old pagan gods are evil. That is fairly offensive to those religous groups, I would say.
Why do Christians feel the need to talk as if they were martyrs? You’re bearing false witness. Tsk.
Thusly spake the redneck in the trailer park.
Hard to take someone seriously, when they can’t use a fucking spell checker.
Hay-yell, it’s even built into Firefox, for pity’s sake.

Uh, this was truly an error and there was no danger of any of them accidentally being detonated, even in the event of a crash. Believe me.
Back on topic, they showed Kathy Griffin’s supposed “hate speech” all over CNN and MSNBC today. Well, so much for TPTB at the Emmy’s censoring Kathy’s acceptance speech, cause it got on the tellie any ways. Oh, and Mike Galanos on CNN said that Griffin is known to be a “militant” atheist. Pu-lease!
I will.
SUCK IT, ALLAH!
Oh, and…
SUCK IT, (over) 2,850 deities at godchecker.com!
CAB4reason,
Kathy Griffin self-identifies as a “militant atheist”. No problem repeating that on the news.
Your giving way to much credit here. This idiot wouldn’t know what Firefox is.
alatham,
Oh, OK. My bad then. I just don’t see anything “militant” about Kathy Griffin. Funny, yes, but not militant.
so now i am a anti-semite for calling out those jews and christians who put another nation ahead of their own.
mxracer652 i did not call all jews/christians sleazy and i don’t call for israels destruction but they sure don’t deserve a penny of our money.
