United Methodist Join the Godless Army of Secular Left

Brothers and Sisters in the Godless Army of the Secular Left:Please welcome our strongest allies and now officially declared members of the GASL – those stalwarts of secular godlessness – the United Methodists. At least according to an Institute on Religion and Democracy started 20 years ago by two conservative Roman Catholics. The article linked to in the title to this posting is about a vote taken by UMs at a Desert Southwest Conference to condemn the IRD. And this is the second time the UMs have voted to condemn the conservative agenda of the IRD. Issues: gay marriage, women ordination, embryonic stem cell research, abortion, etc.

The IRD’s United Methodist Action Director Mark Toomey, responding to the Council of Bishops document “A Call To Repentance and Peace with Justice,” characterized the Council of Bishops as “Flower children and chronic demonstrators who never really grew up and faced the real sinful world;” another IRD posting claimed “One of the strongest regiments of this godless army (of the secular left) is America’s mainstream protestant leaders … the real spirit driving the peace mongering protestant leaders is not pacifism at all. It is hatred of President Bush and of America itself.”

Oh yea, if you read the whole piece linked to in the pdf file provided in the article, you will see that the IRD is also radically changing the Anglicans and the Presbyterians as well. And they are using money they get from Coors beer. So please remember, the next time you sip a mountain water fresh Coors beer, you are providing the funds necessary to run the John Birch Society, American Enterprise Institute, and the Heritage Foundation and other radically conservative groups in America. Enjoy.Peter Nuhn

“…the real spirit driving the peace mongering protestant leaders is not pacifism at all. It is hatred of President Bush and of America itself.”

Which leads to the obvious conclusion that if protestant leaders were true to the Gospel, then they would be Bush-loving warmongers, or at the very least warmongers period.

Warmongering: the Bible and Abrahamic religion, by definition.

I would like a mailing list consisting of all the people that still support the W gang. Sprinkle some jeebus on rat turds and I have no doubt they would buy it.

Furthermore, the UM Desert Southwest Conference Report and the descriptions therein of the IRD only highlight the divisive and intolerant nature inherent in religious belief itself. Not that us atheists/humanists/freethinkers are 100% united ourselves; we just don’t go about devising ways to destroy other non-believers who don’t think exactly the way we do. Instead, we’re working on ways to achieve as close to 100% agreement as we can, while still allowing dissent and disagreement, i.e. the “free marketplace of ideas” to flourish amongst us.

But I’m still gonna drink a Coors if I feel like it, especially if somebody else is buyin’ me a beer.

    CP,
Might as well drink water instead!

Coors sux, along with Miller and Budwiser. There are plenty of really good micro brews around. Support the little guy not only is the beer better but you aren’t giving your hard earned money to some large organization who only cares about their shareholders and couldn’t give a hoot about American jobs or wages.

666: Hell’s Bells, I’ll even drink Keystone (well, maybe ONE) as long as someone else is buying, over water any day, but I still drink plenty of water. Tapwater, for the most part, is still free and safe.

anadrol: Damn right! Microbrews are my ale of choice, and they’re what I buy as often as I can afford them. There’s a small brewery in San Diego that produces one of the absolute best ales I’ve ever had: Arrogant Bastard, at 7.5% a.p.v.; a heady, bold, bodily-fortified dark brew that advertises itself right on its bottle this-a-way:

“You probably won’t like this.” And I don’t. Especially the second and the third. Designated Driver time, fer shure.

Truth is, Miller Genuine Draft is my mainstay, primarily because it’s the best tasting beer for my tastebuds at the most consistently sale-priced availabilty. But given the choice, it’s an amber dark microbrew every time, like a Porter or a Pale Ale.

One of my favorite infrequent indulgences: an Irish Car Bomb. That’s a Guiness Stout poured to half-fill a pint mug (the “bomb” casing and main charge), then in a separate shot glass Jameson Irish Whiskey floated on top of Bailey’s Irish Cream (this is the “fuse”). Carefully lower the shot glass into the pint mug (“fuse” is now “lit”) and down ‘er in one pull. Tastes like chocolate liquour. Explosion occurs next a.m. Designated Driver required.

My main stay is Sam Adams Light or Guiness. I do try a bunch of different beers though when I’m neer a new brew pub or happen to catch something of interest in the party store. I’m more of a high gravity guy, I like my beers to be high in alcohol and calories (anything above 6.5 percent works well for me. Recently it seems that the more complex and interesting beers have been in the higher alcohol bracket. Allthough I have had a couple of interesting lighter beers lately (some smoked ales and an ale make from chillies). I particulary like stouts and porters, had an amazing stout at a recient beer festival it was a creme brulee in liquid form, amazing.

Pray tell, phreedumbass, how in the hell does achieving 100% consensus on a matter via intelectual free exchange of ideas means “intolerance”?

    Numb-fricking-skull
