Ask the politicians!

CNN is apparently running a youtube contest for questions to ask the Democratic presidential candidates during their July 23rd debate. Votes for the different videos are being counted here:http://www.communitycounts.us/debates/Right now, the #1 vote getter is a question I would love to see asked: ?How will you appeal to non-religious voters ?? The lead is narrowing, though. The initial response from infidels.org forum members and the like is pretty much over. The question was apparently intriguing enough for Newsweek to already do an article on it:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19762059/site/newsweek/Thank you for your consideration,Ben DreidelOrganizer, Capital Region Atheists & Agnosticshttp://atheists.meetup.com/531

I would like to see this question asked so I went to the web site and voted for it. With enough votes, maybe CNN will consider it when they pick the questions.

  2. karen says:

The non-religious voter question has slipped to the #2 position.
People need to go to the first link provided and vote!

  3. Tim Ren says:

I added my two cents, but somehow, even if it is far and away the highest vote-getter, I doubt we will ever see the question asked at the debate. Mustn’t rile the sheeple, you know.

lol, CNN is risking eternal damnation? We all know that speaking like the godless folks are people who count is a route to hell. I do not see CNN taking the huge amount of anger they would get for even asking that question. I am sure they would loose thousands of viewers. Not to mention the death threats and hate mail.

I am afraid American society is not mature enough to act any different. I do not give up on raising them, I just think it is too soon for their little minds to accept. For now it is best to be careful what you say around them, they may react violently to complicated ideas. Then we may have to put them to bed without dinner. I would advocate a spanking but my knee is already sore from the huge amounts of spankings I have already administered to many of them.

  5. bernarda says:

At the first link to the questions, in the third row at number ten is a question about faith-based initiatives that is good. “It’s a question of reason vs. faith”.

Also, don’t forget you can vote against questions that you think are frivolous.

  6. bernarda says:

I don’t have the camera and am not too technical, but maybe someone would also like to ask the question “Are any of your sons or daughters serving in the military?”

For a run-down on conservative chickenhawks.

    Wow…doesn’t this statement speak volumes…?

How tough it must be for those, who feel that they are so superior to their peers, to live day to day…

You know, I actually believe it’s the opposite…over 90% of American’s believe in their God…with comments made on this board it seems to me it’s the non-believers who don’t understand religion…yeah, I’ll get the typical “but I grew up in church” or “I’ve read the bible”, but comments made prove my point…

One can read a book on physics and not understand it…but that certainly doesn’t make them smarter or more “superior” to those that do understand it…

phreedm, Im sorry I didn’t get past the sub title.

JournalistsHave Warned of Climate Change for 100 years, but can’t decide weather we face an ice age or warming.

What kind of crap is that, I’m not really interested in what the journalists think, All you have to do is look at the ice core data. Do you understand what exponential
means? Really your sources are crap.

  9. Apple_Christmas says:

    phreedm:

Is it your position that if you truly understand religion, then you are compelled to believe in it? And do you think that non-belief in religion is necessarily proof that the non-believer doesn’t understand it?

And one last question: Is it possible to believe in religion, but not understand it? and if so, would the belief be “true” belief in that case?

  10. Rusty Shackleford says:

phreedm is adding support to my latest theory: every time an atheist expresses an opinion, a theist becomes a “victim.”

  11. Tim Ren says:

    Placenta,

over 90% of American’s believe in their God

Soooooooooooo, if 90% of Americans believe in the Easter Bunny then the Easter bunny is TRUE?

That’s not even circular logic. That’s a circle jerk, and you are the pivot man.

If God is real; please explain how he allowed so many of his TRUE BELIEVERS’ children to be molested by their PRIESTS? If you say Free Will, I swear I am going to reach through the computer screen and choke the living shit out of you. I can do that, you know, because I BELIEVE I can.

  12. anadrol says:

I’d actually be very suprised the 90% of people that call themselves religious believe with the same amount of enthusiasm as phreedie indicates. A lot of them probably haven’t really put a lot of thought into why they consider themselves religious or not. Surely if that 90% actually invested 5 minutes of their time to asking themselves the question they wouldn’t be 90%.

    I believe you can too!

C’mon everybody, clap for Ren, as he reaches thru the computer screen and chokes the living shit out of placenta!

  15. Tim Ren says:

    Karen,
Careful. I’d hate to see you get in trouble as a coconspirator for encouraging me ;-)

    To all,
In addition to tonight’s Paula Zahn show with Ellen Johnson, Anderson Cooper is doing a segment on his ‘360′ program, about Americans who don’t believe in separation of church and state, and what type of country they would like to have. I’m not a great fan of Anderson Cooper, but I imagine I will watch it anyhow because of the content.

Just thought I would let everyone know ahead of time.

  16. Tim Ren says:

    Bernarda,
Thanks for the link to the College Republican Convention. The ‘Officially Not Gay’ guy had me spraying coffee out of my nose.

For a group of individuals that are so superior to the rest of us schmucks, they sure are a sickly bunch. I say call your congresspeople now, and demand that either the troops are pulled out of Iraq immediatly, or the draft will be reinstituted post-haste. Eight to Eighty; Blind, Crippled or Crazy…NO EXCEPTIONS!

    Ren:

I don’t know much about Anderson Cooper, but I did see the segment he had with James Randi when they were talking about Sylvia Brown. The whole piece had a very skeptical bent to it that I appreciated. I got a good impression from Mr. Cooper from that, but then again, that’s really the only exposure to him that I’ve had.

  20. Tim Ren says:

    Apple,
Thanks for the missive on AC360. I missed the segment on James Randi, but I visit his web site often. I had never heard of him before about a year ago. My life insurance rep came by to visit, to update some info, and in the process I mentioned that I was an Atheist. He started laughing, took out a business card and wrote down on the back the URL for jref.org. Then he confided in me that he also was an Atheist.

Randomly outing yourself as an Atheist is a lot like randomly walking up to women on the street and saying, “Hey baby, I’d like to jump your bones.” Nine times out of ten, you’re going to get slapped, but that tenth time can be “oh so wonderful!” I highly recommend it to everyone.

  21. DVanWechel says:

Wait a second…I got slapped EVERY time. Dies a spanking count as getting slapped?

  22. DVanWechel says:

    Dies = Does

  23. hominid says:

Oh come on. Everyone knows that if you want to appeal to some worthess liar, snot, and back stabbing scumbag running for some American damned political office all one needs to do is wave a buck for an American political and plastic damned whore to come running. (They work on the same lack of principle that their monied suck ass religious counterparts)

  24. Tim Ren says:

    DVanWechel,

Does a spanking count as getting slapped?

No Sir! Spanking, when done right, qualifies as oh so wonderful :-)

  25. DVanWechel says:

    Whew!

  26. GodFree&Glad says:

Anderson Cooper is actually kind of an interesting guy. Can’t say that I know a lot about him, but do know he is the son of Gloria Vanderbilt and a writer, Wyatt(?) Cooper, who died when he was 11 or so. He had a brother who jumped from a 14 story building when he was still a teen. I give him points for becoming a well-known journalist as when he couldn’t get there through the front door he purchased camera equipment on his own and trotted off to report on some of the most dangerous situations in the world free-lance until somebody took notice.

  27. alexatheist says:

Anderson Cooper is my favourite openly closeted gay television personality. :-) I like Jodi Foster too…

    You do lines of pot?

I gotta admit, that’s a new one on me.

Might have something to do with how much sense your comment made.

I’ve got nothing against pot, mind you. Just don’t get the “doing lines” bit.
