Some things I try so hard to get rid of, like the fear of vanity and pride. Yet I still hear my father's voice saying that the devil punishes people for their pride. My youngest is 19 and I would be devastated to lose him. I’d feel the same about any of my kids, but he is closest in age to the child of your friends.

I’ve mentioned a couple times this year already about bad things coming in threes. So I guess that superstition is stuck in my head too. Not that I believe it, but the things we grow up with, old habits, die hard, especially the innocuous automatic reflex things we were taught. I think in a way it keeps us close to those we were close to who have died.
