Contrary to what you suggest, Pope John Paul II sent his envoy to Bush before the Iraq invasion for the purpose of telling Bush that the invasion of Iraq would be a defeat for humanity. Also, before the invasion, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, in statements disseminated to parishioners in printed and spoken formats, decried the proposed invasion. Unfortunately, Bush did not follow the wise advice of the Pope and Bishops on this subject.
