Does anyone have any idea how much money was spent to “protect” the Mt. Soledad cross from being removed? Does anyone have any idea how much TAX money was used? After all, the city itself fought and fought and fought – AND LOST. After they lost they twisted and turned and played with laws – until they got their way. Sheesh!

Their government is in such GREAT shape that I’m sure it’s ok for them to spend their dollars on that rather than spend them on actual human people. After all, those homeless people are homeless by their own fault, and jesus himself would have turned them away at the temple door because he was saving up his money for the REAL fight – saving the cross for all of mankind. I mean, just think of the impact that cross has!!!!!!

But the AA and ACLU are the evil ones, oh yes indeedy!

Their jesus would completely tear them to pieces for their actions over the past 500 years! Is THIS what he imagined for his faithful followers? Do you imagine he would embrace their religious leaders? Pat Robertson? James Dobson? George Bush? If so, they are more deluded than even WE think!

  2. avatar Bones says:

Just to make a point here…

I’m willing to bet real $ that not one atheist would support a fight by the ACLU or AA to remove TouchDown Jesus?

    http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/OHMONjesus.html

They haven’t tried. And they won’t try. Do you know why, dear christian?

It’s on private land. Other than the tax breaks given to all religious organizations, it’s not endorsed by the city. It belongs to the church. I say build all the giant jesus’ you want. Just do it with YOUR money on YOUR land.

  3. avatar TXatheist says:

    Phreedm,
Paula’s numbers may be in the toilet because I don’t want 20 minutes of babble on Pelosi going to Syria combined with 10 minutes of Bush being annoyed about it. That’s 30 minutes to find out 3 minutes of info. Stop making dumb comments like only 3 of us were watching.

I willingly support AA and the ACLU. No one is forcing me to send money or write my elected officials. If there weren’t violations they wouldn’t be able to go to court and collect money for court decisions.
Pimping? Like Graham, Robertson, Falwell or Hinn do.

I served in the Navy, was stationed in San Diego and that cross is not up there for me. It’s a violation of c/s and we both know it. There has not been an atheist movement denying you the right to believe, go to any church you want, start your own church or interpret the bible as you want so don’t make such unfounded points.
No matter how we elaborate on our atheism someone will say we are handling incorrectly. Damned if we do and really damned if we don’t say something.

  4. avatar Boise Jim says:

Sad thing is that most xians believe the great liars on the pulpit when they spew that line, ‘we are the most discriminated group in the world’.

Give me a freakin’ break, phreedumb. I usually wouldn’t resort to using that moniker on you, but now I feel like I am justified.

Are you afraid of opening your mind just a little to let a bit of reason seep in, or are you happy to have it in the dark ages?

Why do you think that people leave the church in droves?
Most of the time it is because of views and opinions like yours.
I apologize in feeding the troll, but I’ve really had enough of idiots like him/her.

    Back on Topic:
Is the video of Ellen on YouTube or something else?

  5. avatar DVanWechel says:

    TXathiest:

It’s a violation of c/s and we both know it.

I think you’re maybe giving Phreedm a little too much credit.

As per his posts on this blog, he doesn’t believe separation of church and state exists. He believes this is a Christian nation and should be run as such.

He believes, as Americans, we are free as long as we do what we are told by the Christian majority.

And to boot, he is exceptionally talented at hijacking a thread. :)

  6. avatar pnuhn@gampac.org says:

He believes this is a Christian nation and should be run as such.

I really wish this were a Christian Nation. That would mean that every church would sell all their land and buildings and meaningless junk like jewel encrusted crucifixes, etc. and feed the poor; provide shelter for the homeless; give love, warmth, shelter, food, education, and most of all provide health care for all the little babies in the world.

We would have had universal health care for the past fifty years or more. We wouldn’t have fought in Korea, Vietnam, that lousy little island in the South Atlantic and Iraq x 2. We wouldn’t have soldiers in almost every country and on every single continent in the world. We would have endorsed the treaty to eliminate land mines. We would have endorsed the Kyoto Protocols. We would have disbanded our nuclear armaments. And our state governments wouldn’t have executed three times more children than the rest of the world combined. Christian? Where are there any Christians? I ain’t seen any around here. If any of you find one, I’d appreciate hearing about it so I can ask them just what the hell makes them a Christian and when are they going to start acting like Christians.

  7. avatar DVanWechel says:

    Peter…you so crazy.

We all know that’s not what Christianity is about.

It’s about the pursuit of personal wealth ? at all costs (didn’t Jesus say so?). At least that’s the way it appears here in America.

  8. avatar 666 says:

Churches don’t pay taxes. Why not?

    Special Privileges!
I really don’t want to hear any more whining from so called “bleevers” about how much discrimination they endure! It’s a load of crap.

An aside: Can you imagine what would be displayed on churches if jeebus had he existed and been hanged?; What all the good xians would be wearing as their “sign”?
    A noose.

  9. avatar DVanWechel says:

Churches don’t pay taxes. Why not?

Because they are classified as ?non-profit? organizations. Isn?t that funny?

I’m not sure how they came to be classified as such. I suppose it was an outcrop of the concept of separation of church and state?

Anyone know the specifics about this?

  10. avatar DVanWechel says:

Oops – forgot the forward slash : (

  11. avatar DD Dropout says:

Truthfully, they are all non-prophet organisations. Never were, never will be. Thus sayeth the atheist.

So, if Jesus, like Mohammed, is considered a prophet by Muslims, why aren’t they complaining about His images appearing in Christian iconography.

Touchdown Jesus may be next on Al Queda’s list.

  12. avatar cry4turtles says:

“What all the good xians would be wearing as their “sign”?
    A noose.”

If only they had electric chairs then. What a lovely charm an electric chair would make.

  13. avatar Boise Jim says:

Imagine if they had lethal injection.

Would’ve been interesting to see people with syringes around their necks.
We could’ve had giant syringes up on hill tops.
The needle could be one giant lightning rod…

  14. avatar charlie says:

Phreedm and the like of its kind….love to hijack science and common experiences to explain their righteous bigotry as goose-balls….I mean gospel……

My guess is phreedumbass has given up on trying to recite the bible here…

Atheism in this country will be the majority…..unfortunately its gonna take a few generations….

My question is how old is Phreedm?

    ;)

  15. avatar billh says:

how about an electric chair (not original, heard it before.)

  16. avatar Saladin in training says:

“They aren’t afraid…they don’t trust atheists. Why? Because organizations like AA FORCE their views upon the majority of America…”

Well if that isn’t the pot calling the kettle black.

  17. avatar DiArtemis says:

You guys are funny…but SO off topic! Ellen is not even in the archives from the Paula show transcripts. What was up with that?

OK…so if JC was executed in the Dark Ages, it would have been the rack or the guillotine. Lovely charm!

Have fun at the convention, ya’ll. I will be there in spirit!

  18. avatar reason says:

these tv shows main purpose is to entertain and make gobs of money.i have also noticed the rise of the gospel of prosperity hand in hand with the RR.is all this being fueled by the baby boomer generation.it looks like liberal and conservative are in a struggle over christianity.so what does that mean for us.what do you guys think.

I willingly support AA and the ACLU. No one is forcing me to send money or write my elected officials.

That’s right. No one is forcing you to send your money…but the ACLU and AA FORCE every small community (because they don’t have the resources to defend themselves) to bend to their radical views. Huge difference…

    Yeah…like I said….pimps

phreedm these were christian and jewish judges handing down these rulings.if state and local leaders would read state/federal constitutions this could be avoided.be careful what you ask for or you will see children being exposed to every hairbrained cult that comes along.this may be hard for you to believe but there is alot worse out there then us nonbelievers.

  21. avatar what says:

Phreeky has rightfully pointed out that with a mere ten million dollars the ACLU has been very effective. Just think what they could do with a Jim and Tammy Fay size purse. Give generously!

On the other hand, the too-numerous-to-count xtian orgs are by comparison (bang for buck) very ineffective. So the xtians are either incredibly incompetent (role model GWB) or just plain stupid (aspiring Bart Simpsons). Most likely it’s both (axis of doooh).

  22. avatar billh says:

I watched it, more about racism in church than anything. She mentioned it is time for blacks to get over it and get off their knees and stop worshipping a white god (jesus).

  23. avatar billh says:

Sorry, by getting over it, I mean slavery.

  24. avatar TimeToStandUp says:

What a stupid comment that atheists try to push their views on theists. If there was no religion, there would be no atheists, but if there was no atheists, you can bet your life that there would still be theists.

  25. avatar mxracer652 says:

Everyone forgot my favorite! DOVER, PA. That cost the residents $1 million, all because a handful of incompetent creationist mental defects managed to get onto the school board.
Who decided the case & awarded the compensation? A GWB appointed Republican.

Creationists (who phred loves) screwed the school curricula, and were punished by a conservative judge (who phred loves).

But it’s all the ACLU’s fault.

    Oh sweet irony.

  26. avatar cry4turtles says:

    Somebody’s a sore loser.

  27. avatar FlyingWeasel says:

there have to be consequences for violatings state and federal constitutions

would you rather that they threw the errant lawmakers in the slammer phreedm? even if they just fined them, their pay comes out of the pockets of the community.

think of the legal fees as a little slap-on-the-wrist to remind these small communities to reign in their policy-makers.

  28. avatar TXatheist says:

    Phreedm,
The ACLU was Constitutionally correct in all your examples except maybe the first kentucky case and Nebraska case. Don’t violate civil rights or the c/s issue and they won’t have to bring a suit that a member of that community wanted. You not understanding these violations doesn’t make the ACLU wrong.

  29. avatar Bones says:

    Very Interesting, indeed.

Guess where the ACLU information comes from?

    http://www.stoptheaclu.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=31

The following information was taken from the web site of the Center for Reclaiming America, an arm of Coral Ridge Ministries in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. And at the bottom of the page is a sample of a letter you can use to write newspaper editors to publish regarding the ACLU’s legalized theft of your tax dollars.

    Word. For. Word.

Apparently, the supporters are unable to compose their own letters to editors, too! Or do they just need to be told what they think?

  30. avatar Bones says:

BTW, “The ACLU is Evil”, an article on the site noted above, it quite the read. I got a hearty laugh from it!
