Phreeky has rightfully pointed out that with a mere ten million dollars the ACLU has been very effective. Just think what they could do with a Jim and Tammy Fay size purse. Give generously!

On the other hand, the too-numerous-to-count xtian orgs are by comparison (bang for buck) very ineffective. So the xtians are either incredibly incompetent (role model GWB) or just plain stupid (aspiring Bart Simpsons). Most likely it’s both (axis of doooh).

  2. billh says:

I watched it, more about racism in church than anything. She mentioned it is time for blacks to get over it and get off their knees and stop worshipping a white god (jesus).

  3. billh says:

Sorry, by getting over it, I mean slavery.

  4. TimeToStandUp says:

What a stupid comment that atheists try to push their views on theists. If there was no religion, there would be no atheists, but if there was no atheists, you can bet your life that there would still be theists.

Everyone forgot my favorite! DOVER, PA. That cost the residents $1 million, all because a handful of incompetent creationist mental defects managed to get onto the school board.
Who decided the case & awarded the compensation? A GWB appointed Republican.

Creationists (who phred loves) screwed the school curricula, and were punished by a conservative judge (who phred loves).

But it’s all the ACLU’s fault.

    Oh sweet irony.

  6. cry4turtles says:

    Somebody’s a sore loser.

  7. FlyingWeasel says:

there have to be consequences for violatings state and federal constitutions

would you rather that they threw the errant lawmakers in the slammer phreedm? even if they just fined them, their pay comes out of the pockets of the community.

think of the legal fees as a little slap-on-the-wrist to remind these small communities to reign in their policy-makers.

  8. TXatheist says:

    Phreedm,
The ACLU was Constitutionally correct in all your examples except maybe the first kentucky case and Nebraska case. Don’t violate civil rights or the c/s issue and they won’t have to bring a suit that a member of that community wanted. You not understanding these violations doesn’t make the ACLU wrong.

  9. Bones says:

    Very Interesting, indeed.

Guess where the ACLU information comes from?

    http://www.stoptheaclu.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=31

The following information was taken from the web site of the Center for Reclaiming America, an arm of Coral Ridge Ministries in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. And at the bottom of the page is a sample of a letter you can use to write newspaper editors to publish regarding the ACLU’s legalized theft of your tax dollars.

    Word. For. Word.

Apparently, the supporters are unable to compose their own letters to editors, too! Or do they just need to be told what they think?

  10. Bones says:

BTW, “The ACLU is Evil”, an article on the site noted above, it quite the read. I got a hearty laugh from it!

  11. Mushukyou says:

    Phreedm…

Are you some kind of idiot?
How does the AA “force its beliefs” on America?

    You’re an idiot.

You have a lot to learn, but you seem to stupid. I think we’ve had discussions before.. you’re a “hit and run” theist. You don’t think.

  12. End Of Faith says:

    Mushukyou
“You don’t think” is the short definition of a Christian.

  13. reason says:

phreedm is not stupid he is working for what he believes in.we can’t change religious right view of us if we don’t talk to people in the religious right.be patient this is a long road we are on.

  14. hominid says:

reason: “working for what he believes in”? Are we really expected to give a rats crap? Who cares? Also, who ISN’T working for what we believe? Why do you give so much credit and leverage to the likes of that contrary, argumentative, and rude self-appointed upstart? “be patient this is a long road”? Why not speak for yourself, reason, and realize that after 2 millenia of the damned crap some of us have had more than enough no matter what ANYBODY wants to debate, claim, excuse, or damned add to the bullshit. “we can’t change the religious right”..Well again who give a contemplated damned crap. They are not only welcome to be that damned stupid but they may also go to their damned hell of THEIR making! If you object, you and anyone else who wants to cowtow and kiss their damned asses can join them!

  15. remy says:

    phreedm is not stupid

I will have to disagree with you here reason. New people (and I was once one) always begin by engaging him in debate only to discover that he is devoid of anything approaching logic or reason. They are shocked by the egregious nonsense he offers, yet they are drawn to to him as one is to a bad accident.

There exists a hope that no-one could be as dense and as thick, and still be a member of the human family. I have attempted to stay away but sometimes I just can’t stop myself. (Bad remy.)

The fact that he is able to return after some of the horrible epithets addressed to him is truly amazing. It only serves to solidify the opinion that he is, as they say, dumb as a post. I remain of the opinion that he ought not to be fed and fervently wish that he would go to “a better place”.

Then again, he does serve as a bench mark with which to measure one’s patience. Before him, I would never have guessed that such inanity was remotely possible. And, he does make most who encounter him feel superior. I dunno, maybe he’s good for atheists? eeeeewwwwhh

“Creationists (who phred loves) screwed the school curricula, and were punished by a conservative judge (who phred loves).”

Have you ever seen someone grab anothers wrist and start hitting the owner of the wrist with their own hand all the while saying “Why are you hitting yourslef?”.
    It’s kind’a like that.

BTW, what is the 652 at the end of your moniker about?

  21. hominid says:

remy: I agree with what you said but can’t stop laughing. “dumb as a post” was good..(actually I’d thought dumber than a box of rocks but I liked your “post” even better) “bad accident” and “egregious nonsense” were a good way to put it also. But what you said last was best..”eeeeewwwwhh” “bench mark with which to measure one’s patience” and “good for atheists” I have to differ with however. Those seem not only to stretch us out of whack but come across as both cruel and brutal expectations. For me “no can do” and not about to.

You want proof of atheists pushing their views on American institutions?

    Boy Scouts defeat ACLU

    http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55062

Yeah, an American institution. It’s been around for 100 years. So now exactly who is trying to subvert American culture…?

For all of you who support the ACLU and AA…why not ask for a complete disclosure of their finances? Such as salaries paid out to their officers?

I’ll bet you don’t invest with the same naivete…

    F you Charlie:
I am an Eagle Scout and out of 7 years in the scouts, only once was any xtianity pushed on me, which of course, I shoved back. Before you condem the entire BSO, perhaps you should get your facts straight. My god is the FSM and NOWHERE does it say you have to be xtian.

Oh and so you don’t feel left out:
    F Phreedumbasshole also.

homind you are an idealist.i am not it does not bother me to pretend to be christian and order to enjoy the benefits of living in a christian majority land.i’m not the only one.why would i not be nice to phreedm he is willing to obey the rules and teachings that atheists like me make.yeah we are trying to get believers to treat open atheists better but we don’t have to.stop being so pure join us and enjoy life.

  28. TXatheist says:

    DeepDiver,
But doesn’t the BSA say you must swear in to a god?

p.s. I just got a solicition from VFW to join again and the secular oath of commitment was in there. That just changed a couple of years ago.

  29. 666 says:

    reason;
By pretending to be a xtian in order to “fit in”, you become the worst example of an agnostic/atheist (take your pick).

    A Hypocrite!

And, by the way, what exactly are these “rules and teachings that atheists like me make”?(the words in quotation marks were yours)

I never needed any rules or teachings to come to the conclusion that religion was bullshit from the age of 5 yrs. old.
The only segment of the population that needs rules and teachings are the theists that are incapable of using their own brain to think for themselves.

When people have to turn to a book of mythology in order to find out what they’re supposed to think, they are no longer thinking for themselves, but for their masters.

I am my own master. I will not be a slave to another’s craving for power.

You have the power to think for yourself!; to stand up for what YOU believe (or don’t believe).

Get out of the closet. If every atheist did, you would see that you are not alone.

  30. tomath says:

C’mon regulars here! Are we men/women or mice? A little discipline in skipping over all posts by phreedm and all posts responding to them will go a long way to getting rid of him. I shouldn’t think it would be that hard. New members can get the message pretty easily just by noticing how all the regulars skip all of it. Gird your loins and go to work on this! Don’t even talk about him to each other (not even about this idea). Just a suggestion, of course.

  31. billh says:

    TXatheist

“A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.”

Which god? The key point here is (to me) is “He respects the beliefs of others”

I did not believe in a “God” but believed in mother nature, so I was respectful to all of nature. Did not cut down trees needlessly, did not kill animals needlessly (well except fish, never kill anything for that matter) and I think you get the idea. I respected others no matter what they believed as long as it did not hurt others.

So basically, whatever your belief is, the law just states that you should be respectfull to it and honor it.

I can honestly say, I showed much more respect to nature than xtians did to their god.

  32. remy says:

    tomath,

Don’t even talk about him to each other (not even about this idea). Just a suggestion, of course

Point taken. Will do my utmost. May I have permission to call you to the carpet when you succumb?

By the by, if he returns he will have proven that there is No god.

phreddy: Now, if the children can’t show respect during a discussion then I’m done.

I can only guess that when one decides they would rather be another’s slave, they also give up the ability to make any other well thought acts/statements.

    tomath,
Your point has been noted. :)

  40. alexatheist says:

The reason why I find atheism so liberating is that we are indeed our own masters and do not defer to an imaginary authoritarian father figure like the followers of the Abrahamic faiths do. This does not mean that I am an anarchist or do not respect secular authority but I am the sort of person who does not need a strong authority figure in my life in order to make decisions or know right from wrong. Faith stops so many people who are otherwise intelligent in all other aspects of their lives from being able to think things through reasonably on many topics that are at odds with their perception of what their particuluar faith demands of them.

  41. hominid says:

Remy: You can equate me with Archie Bunker if it makes you feel better. I think all folks are entitled to their point of view. Was there any doubt we all had one? Believe it or not I have read Phreddys posts and try and hear everyone out. Phreddy even agreed with me once as I recall on a thread about the Dark Ages. Ok I guess I can cut some slack but definately not much. I’d like to see some respect from Phreddy too and in such an event would be more than willing to reciprocate. I don’t really think Phreddy is stupid either overall. The saying where there is life there is hope does not belong to the Christian community and I guess holds true enough for anybody. Now I can be a sport and can give a little. Now can and will Phreddy et al? Before I forget Happy Easter to all! Whether or not you are in for the bunnies (as me) or whatever. Also, I took deep resentment with Pheddy on his remarks on FDR in particular. I’ll bet Pheddy couldn’t achieve what FDR did even with two legs to stand on or in multiples times over of four years. Also I had no use for Reagan although even I after so long will let it go enough to respect at least the dead and gone. Did you know that Reagan hated (and in my view) was jealous of JFK? And I think I can guess why since Reagan couldn’t really hold a candle to a Kennedy! Reagan made the rude, stupid, and untrue crack that under JFK’s curly locks lured the same old Karl Marx. Did you or Phreddy know that Reagan said something so damned childish, ridiculous, and utterly stupid? JFK’s tenure fought the spread of Marxism (ie Cuba) and sought to curb via his attorney (RFK) general underworld crime just in case the likes of some of you would-be authyorities have forgetten already. So anytime Phreddy and you are ready to grow up big boy style and show respect and quit the childish mud slinging and name calling (including amongst us gays) you may count me in for at least listening to you. Please don’t think I necessarily like to get down and dirty or into a bitch fight. Nonetheless, don’t make the mistake of kidding yourself into believing that I’m above it or won’t get into it while I damned mean business. One more thing, I was always an idealist and remain so whether the notion was ever practical or not.

“I never needed any rules or teachings to come to the conclusion that religion was bullshit from the age of 5 yrs. old.”

666, Ditto! 5 was the age of enlightenment for me too. May I ask, are you male of female? I only ask because what sparked my enlightenment was the fact that, as a little girl slouching in the pews, I first noticed how girls were excluded from the lists of “begats”.
“Were were all the daughters?” I pondered this question relentelessly.

Then, still at the tender age of 5, I realized that the women in the bibble were either slaves, stupid, treacherous, or virgins giving birth, totally misaligned with the women in my life, and, most important, totally unrealistic, not even sci-fi material.

At age 28 I learned the meaning of the word “concubine” and all my childhood distrust of the bibble came full circle.

Perhaps the sad part is that it took 12 more years to finally find the courage to proclaim, “I am an athiest!” I thank nogodblog and it’s regular contributers for demonstrating to me that being an atheist is as natural as spring rain (or snow depending on where you live).

Ruth, Abigail, Esther, Priscilla to name a few…. This is a common argument which really shows one’s lack of true knowledge of the bible.

Many of the historical books of the bible are merely recording what life was like at that time in history…you can go to the same area of the world today and see similar social structures…
