The NAE once again has decided to hate the sin, but love the sinner (President George W. Bush). They totally support the President and the entire war on terrorism, just not any of the ways we fight that war. Huh? How can you claim to support the very people committing immoral activities that you publicly denounce? Isn’t that the very definition of hypocrisy?
Peter Nuhn

TX:
Probably the fact they don’t want to move to Texas. Neither would I (nuttin’ personal).
The other flaws w/your ‘plan’ (if it can be called that):
A. Good chance we’d be importing terrorists, &
B. A real strain on our already faltering economy.
Let’s face it: Israel has shown far more inclination to negotiate than the other side.
Don’t believe me: go check both sides of the conflict, do some research, get back to me.
KA,
I came from San Diego but I almost moved to Birmingham. I’m one to make waves. San Diego was cool, expensive, but way too many men and I’m not gay.
You still have not given a plan. Come on, we both know asking the arabs to put down their guns is like asking Texans to put down their guns. Ain’t happening and likely to get you shot. Take this for what it’s worth. You are good at telling me why my ideas won’t work but not good at making a case of something better.
I’m sure there are terrorists in Israel but it’s my understanding Israel does profile and their screening system is much better than ours.
The strain on our economy is minimal. Repayments are an option. They don’t have to agree and can stay there.
I don’t doubt Israel is willing to negotiate but land grabs and war are not a negotiation process. What I’m trying to get at is that the Jews are the hated people of that region and we financially support it. If we didn’t support them with almost the same amount of money our federal government sends to our public education system…roughly 4 billion for each I’d be fine with them staying but right now we are paying Israel to keep our oil cheap.
Your plan? Maybe I should ask why you think we should send Israel 3 billion a year? So they can walk around in relative peace? Wouldn’t Compton like that 3 billion so they can be safer?
TX:
There really aren’t any better options. We’re stuck w/a lotta minimal angles. Your plan would probably destroy this country in the long run.
Israelis actually do have a terrorist org. in their midst. It’s called the Kach. It’s illegal to be a member.
Still waiting for those figures I asked you for.
All 7 million of ‘em? Mighty kind of you.
What I’m getting at, is that people can’t rabbit. Where would we be now, if that were so? No civil rights, no unions, no women’s rights. Caving into a bully is a fool’s game.
That’s incorrect.
“Processed diamonds, high-technology and military products, and agricultural products are the major exports, followed by chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and apparel. The leading imports are military equipment, machinery, rough diamonds, crude oil, chemicals, transport equipment, iron and steel, and cereals.”
Israel’s not a member of OPEC.
I dunno, keep the region stable, maintain a presence in the ME, keep genocide from occurring? Iran’s been vocal about pushing them out into the sea.
You still haven’t told me what you think would happen if Israel was to vanish.
Israel vanishes tomorrow? Economically=Oil prices would go up. Jews worldwide=irate. 3 weeks from now? Oil prices stay inflated.
Destroy this country? Where are you leading with this? Houston has almost 5 million people. Putting Houston part two on the other side of San Antonio with 7 million Jews is not unreasonable. I’m sure the Kach is small and if not please tell me how much control of things they really have. I can’t remember the last time I heard of them doing anything.
7 million Jews brought over here would be expensive but they have the ability to repay if they choose to. They have money don’t they? They can build again here like many immigrants do. You are not comparing apple’s to apple’s. Woman and blacks were treated horrible but there were “rules” they had to overcome. In Israel they get blown up for getting on a bus or eating in a cafe.
The region is not stable. That’s like saying Compton is stable. It’s a war zone. Why do we need a presence in the ME? If the Jews are welcomed in the US then genocide won’t happen for the most part.
Please elaborate on my incorrect point about the 4 billion we spend with the federal education budget and that amount is almost as much as we send to Israel? What did you mean?
TX:
It’s just a lousy plan. That’s it. This isn’t the 1st time I’ve heard it.
The Kach have no real control. But they are terrorists. Besides which, an influx of 7 million people will enable a lotta people to sneak on over. I can imagine the Border Patrol’s response.
Really? Have you consulted w/the state of Texas on this?
I’m betting if you approached ANYONE in the Senate, Congress, or WH w/this, you’d be laughed at.
Sure enough: they didn’t pack up & leave, did they?
You want apples to apples? You don’t flee a bully. They just run after you. You’re acceding to an argument from force – & in the process, want to force 7 million to migrate against their will, most likely.
Still waiting for those figures I asked.
I’m willing to bet YOUR solution would cost 10X as much.
Do the math.
I’ve posted on my support of Israel, here, in case anyone’s interested.
http://biblioblography.blogspot.com/2007/03/why-do-i-support-israel.html
Of course it’s against their will. They think Israel is an important piece of land. Let’s see if 3 billion a year for the next 30 years is more or less expensive than a 1 time plan to have them brought over here. I’m not saying all Texans would welcome them but there is plenty of room for 7 million people in West Texas…plenty.
Your idea is just let the problem keep going. They aren’t going to talk this out. Jews are hated, absolutely hated for being there and people are willing to die to get back at them.
Who started the 1967 War?

If someone breaks into your home and they have a gun, but you shoot first, does this mean you started the war?

TX:
Oh, the international community’s going to go for that one, as well.
It’s still an idiotic plan, Tex. Sorry.
I’m not going to tell 7 million people what they should & shouldn’t do. They’re not even my countrymen. You’re proposing a stupid police action that would have vast global consequences.
So, still waiting for those figures, Tex. How ya gonna bring them over? On boats? Pack aircraft carriers? At gunpoint? Where will they stay, in tents in the desert? Who’ll feed them? Do they get temporary citizenship?
Let it go. It’s a lousy idea.
Alex, great to see you in that Pink Swastika of yours.
Yeah Tex, when Muslims become a majority in France with the next 50 years, where do you want to send the non Muslim French?
What a dolt.
It?s odd that you can post on this blog and blast any religious belief to the cheers of onlookers, but say something about Judaism and you?ve gone too far. Oh dear you might even be anti-Semitic.
I?m not anti-Semitic; I?m anti-stupid decisions made based on any religion not just Christianity. The old let?s set up a country in the middle of people that hate us because it?s ?the promised land?.
Let?s recap a little history. The Jews have been getting their ass kicked since the dawn of time by one country or another. I say this not as an insult, but to preface the fact that suddenly in 1948 they are this military juggernaut who can defeat all attackers. The fact is that at the moment Israel has the bigger whooping stick and we are providing it to them.
Why do Americans feel such a need to support them to the tune of 10 percent of the total foreign aid budget? It?s that whole bible thing, you know ?the chosen people?, rebuilding the temple and revelations. Trust me I hear it every two days from my nut bag religious in-laws. Israel this, send money that.
The bottom line is this: more people are dying again (big surprise) for religion and for an atheist to take either side is absurd.
All this talk about Israel and Palestine reminds me of the fellow from Israel who posted here a while back. He gave a different voice to the Israelis; one I had not considered. His post moved me to tears. Before I read it, I felt much like Alex?that Israel was the catalyst for Middle East conflict and that we should withdraw support.
Now I think differently. I?d be willing to bet that the average 18-year-old Israelis would rather lead a normal life sans war culture. I wouldn?t be surprised if atheism is on the rise in the young adult Israelis population. They are a rare model of democracy (if not model-perfect) in a sea of brutal theocracy. Perhaps we should support them on reasonable secular grounds.
But alas, the ?reasonable and secular grounds? would be lost on the majority of Americans who think the Jews are gawd?s chosen people, and that we are biblically slated to protect them.
Argh!
I’ve suggested it before and I’ll suggest it again: check out the Dialogue Project. It’s a group that discusses this very issue. From their website:
Good Dialogue is ?
…an exchange of ideas and experiences that is so active, effective, and highly charged that it leaves none of the participants unchanged.
means learning to suspend one?s opinions and judgments in order to truly listen to one another.
requires staying in the dialogue, even when one?s closely held beliefs are challenged.
requires all participants to contribute from where they are ? even half-formed ideas.
can result in divergent views converging, discovering a new social intelligence.

To the people who realize I’m really trying to have a discussion to come up with a solution, thanks. Calling me a dolt and my plan idiotic because you disagree with it doesn’t help come up with a solution.
KA,
The Jews can fly over here and pay us back. It’s not that much for them to pay. $1000 maybe each person and no cost to us. They can stay and I’ve said that. They just don’t get our protection. How many people come across our southern border every year? I’m telling you that 7 million more Jews in a state that can hold 50 million isn’t a big deal. Texas is huge and they can move anywhere in the USA that they want, unlike in the ME.
Baconeating Jew,
As long as France remains relatively peaceful I don’t care if the Muslims are the majority.
Now Ka or BEJ,
What do you propose? I’m done giving them 3 billion a year. If all 7 million Jews are blown up tomorrow the price of oil goes up temporarily and I can live with that.
The 3 billion a year keeps the Palestinians alive and oil prices low.
Nobody is making the US send the dough, and it would be more costly for them not too, and they know it.
And I don’t even think it is the 3 billion that bothers me, because you sound like Canadians who try to feint anti-semitism…but they don’t have the 3 billion dollar line to fall back on, so they are more transparent than you.
I know you would have no problem if 7 million Jews were blown up. You make that clear. That is why I’m glad I’m not you, I couldn’t handle the self loathing.
If you shot yourself in the head tonight on further reflection of who you really are, I would lose no sleep by the way.
Please explain how the 3 billion keeps the Palestinians alive. I realize if I died it would make no difference on your life.
BEAJ:
I don’t agree w/Tex at all, but I think he’s actually making an effort to understand the conflict, even though he keeps hanging onto that doggone plan o’ his.
I don’t think he’s anti-Semitic, just a touch uninformed is all.
Thanks KA, honestly that is my mission.
OK, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
If Israel didn’t have the funds to look after protecting themselves properly, their other option would be taking care of business in a more violent way.
If Mexico refused to recognize the USA, and they demanded territory lost in war in the 1800’s back and sent suicide bombers into Texas and Arizona, and they launched missiles into US cities, what would the USA’s response be?
The billion dollars ties Israel’s hands. It makes them accountable to the USA when it comes to extreme ways of defending itself.
Thanks BEAJ. If I “hated” Jews I wouldn’t want them in Texas where they could be in much safer conditions. I think Jews are very good people but don’t respect their religious superstitions.
I understand your point but I am a Texan who would gladly give Texas back to Mexico. We took it in an immoral manner. If Mexico wanted to fight us they’d lose. It’s a very weak military versus a very powerful one. Now, maybe I’m wrong but I see no way Israel would last that long against the Muslim world. The Muslims don’t fear the Israeli’s but that the USA would protect them. Please elaborate on why Israel wouldn’t be destroyed in just a few years without our protection.
