Check the SFatheists or Bayareatheists websites. I'm sure there's something on somebody's calendar.

To plant vegetables in our garden and adopt a New Zealand white rabbit next week from an animal shelter and give him/her a decent home. Every Easter many people become bored of their recently purchased pet store rabbit(s) and take them to the local animal shelter, rabbits are quiet, friendly, and peaceful.

Our xtian "neighbors" are just the opposite of friendly, peaceful, and quiet!

Evolving is a Happy Equinox!
I might celebrate the autumnal equinox instead. Mar 20, 18.16 hrs UTC. I think the xtians substituted their crazy easter story for the ancient celebration, of, for you in the northern hemi., the end of winter.

Only 70,000? The earth and moon have been doing their thing for maybe 4 billion. Man has probably been observing it for more than 2 million and subject to its influences - ie seasons - for 2 - 4 million years.

I won't be doing anything for the equinox; I never do. Nor do I do anything for solstices. I actually feel like joining in on the holidays that all my friends and family celebrate is quite good enough for me!

I understand the motivation to create a sort of holiday that doesn't have a religious background, but why the equinoxes and solstices? Isn't it a little ironic for atheists to celebrate a day that has typically been important to very many religions throughout history? Clebrating the equinox and the soltice has a bit of a pagan feel that doesn't sit well with me.

Why not celebrate something more secular, like the birthdays of Thomas Paine or Robert Ingersoll, maybe?

An open question to anyone who wants to answer: If you celebrate the equinox, why do you celebrate it?

I shall observe the Spring Equinox by looking around. I love to watch Mother Earth wake up after her long winter sleep. The return of the Turkey Buzzards, the greening of the grass, the budding leaves and flowers, and of course--BABIES EVERYWHERE! This is the stuff that spring is made of.

Happy happy joy joy, happy happy joy joy!

We should all celebrate July 17 because it's the best day of the year! I will officially be able to walk into a store and buy an alcoholic beverage.
