If they’re right, they are very near finding liquid water on Mars. This would be the last requirement (including a stable heat source, which they have) for life to exist. Most religions have Earth alone in the universe with life. Would life on Mars have any effect? Would it cause religionists to confront yet unother proven falsehood? No, but it would still be neat.http://news.aol.com/topnews/articles/_a/new-evidence-of-water-found-on-mars/20061206131709990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

Decent explanation of spherical earth ideas from Bible.

Stand on a hill and rotate 360 degrees. What do you see? The Circle of the Earth. But this is far far a concept of a spherical Earth.
It’s the difference between a dinner plate and a soccer ball.
It’s very easy to imagine inferences made by smart people with the benefit of hindsight. However the facts are that according you your particular inspired tome, the Earth is most likened in shape to a dinner plate. You need to apply knowledge gained from Evildom to be able to infer a spherical shape.
But also there is the horizon on the ocean. Look at the ocean and watch the sun rise over it. There is a circle to the left and right and as the sun rises perpendicular over you. So some smart guys back in the day could have seen this and thought, “hey a circle in two directions…hmmm…sphere…i bet so!”

I suspect you are probably right. Many smart people would have figured out that the Earth might be spherical.
Their BIG error was that their next move would have been to go and discuss their insight with their community leaders, who would have promptly cut out their tongues and stoned them to death for blasphemy.
That is funny!, HeatheNZ.
But i meant the smart guys would have been the Bible scholars…”oohh, yeah right”. So therefore stoning would have been outta the question unless they figured this all out in the process of adultery or idolatry or something like that.

Sorry, bible scholars rely on revelation, not observation. Unless it’s revealed in their holy scriptures they are ignorant of it. If it contradicts their holy book it’s wrong and heretical.
The stonings will not be far away.
Please tell me you are joking. You are joking right? Bible scholars do not rely on observation…? That is one of the fundamental uses in Scriptural interpretation. You may be confusing there willingness to concede they do not know how “everything” could occur as relying on revelation, but that is a part of the whole.
So tell me how did life begin from a primordial goo/sludge/whatever??
Oh wait, are you basing this on revelation/theories from other writers. Were you there? You weren’t? Then how is it science, can you replicate it? Oh, we will in the future huh. Well that’s not observable is it? Hmmm..? “That’s a mystery!”
I agree to a point that the bible scholars relied on observation to a point. The stuff that they made up that they said god told them had to trick people and had to be believable for their time. So what they saw, as ignorant about it they may have been, they put it in the bible. On things they totally knew nothing about, they made it up from scratch and said god did it.
Actually, if one believes the Bible story of Joshua, we can see how life could have come to Mars (if ultimately found there and xians have to explain.) In Joshua 10:13, not only did the Sun stop in the sky, but the Moon also.
If that event actually occurred, and one must understand that the God of the Old Testament clearly was not an astronomer, then all the stuff on the Earth must have gone flying off into space and some could have landed on Mars.
This is xian logic at it’s finest.
