Thanksgiving Blasphemy Joke

How can you accuse someone of blasphemy unless you conduct the blasphemy in order to prove that the conduct is blasphemous?Better yet, how come it is blasphemy for NBC to air a Madonna concert on Thanksgiving with a segment of the concert showing her strapped to and being raised on a giant mirrored cross, but it is perfectly alright for Don Wildmon to show the exact same sequence on his website? If it is blasphemy for NBC to air the offending segment, why isn’t it blasphemous when Don Wildmon does it?Answer: Religious Hypocrisy! The best part of blasphemy is that it takes both an artist and accuser. And anyone who doubts what I say is guilty of sacrilege and blasphemy.

Ha. How dare that phony Madonna wear a “fake crown of thorns!”

  2. karen says:

How generous of Brother Wildmon to share the Madonna clip in which she mocks the crucifiction! I didn’t see the special on NBC when it aired.

Ummm…where did the blasphemy come in? Was it because it was shown on Thanksgiving, which is our national day of football?

  3. JP says:

Q: “How can you accuse someone of blasphemy unless you conduct the blasphemy in order to prove that the conduct is blasphemous?”

A: You don’t have to become a child p0rnographer in order to prove that someone has been watching kiddie p0rn videos. The difference in “conduct” between accused and accuser, in such a case, would be that the accuser is likely to not be sexually aroused by the offending material (though it’s possible that he could be).

I think Don Wildmon feels that he isn’t receiving the same sense of titillation that Madonna does when she “blasphemes.” Of course, I’d contend that he’s feeling another sense of titillation in publicly condemning her!

  4. karen says:

I wonder how many of the solicited million emails Wildmon actually got? Is that the magic number for getting a show banned? Or was the purpose just to register indignation over something he knew he was powerless?
Well, not really powerless; he probably generated more interest in the show by giving it free and controversial publicity. Ha.

All publicity is good publicity. Except if you are OJ Simpson or Michael Richards.

I love on his site where it talks about Christer-bashing saying, “Following the lead of Rosie O’Donnell…”

Rosie is a l-e-s-b-i-a-n. She said maybe one thing making a slight about Christers to one individual who leaked it… how many explicitly verbally abusive things have Christer’s said about gays and l-e-s-b-i-a-n-s? Many of them are even aimed directly at Rosie.

    Again… purely religious hypocrisy.

Also, why can’t I type the word l-e-s-b-i-a-n in a post without getting denied? Is that not a form of descrimination? Don’t let the tauntings of a few ruin all nonoffensive references to an important group of people.

Shouldn’t Madonna stick to opening kabbalah centers for AIDS orphans in Africa? I know that if I was a starving child nothing could be more relevant than jewish mysticism.
I mean after all this is the same woman who wrote a letter officialy ending her friendship with Britney Spears becasue Ms Spears wasn’t showing as much interest in Madge’s chosen religion as she thought was merited. I have lost all respect and interest in Madonna and as a gay man that is really saying something. :-)

    Reed
Les_bian is just one of several disallowed words because of some spamming problems we had quite a while back. It has naught to do with political/cultural/any kind of issues.
    Just spam issues.
Don’t take it to heart. Just alter the word slightly to get it past the guardian ogre.

  9. Monika says:

I read somewhere that the crucifixion scene was cut when the show aired on NBC anyway. Does anyone know if that is true?

I used to be a big Madonna fan but like Alexatheist it is hard to respect her these days. Nice to see her annoying Christians all the same.

Anyhoo… I knew it had to have been a spammer issue. I know the Atheist community has at least a marginal amount of sympathy for gay people seeing as so many gays are turning to Atheism as their former churches turn to gay bashing. But still… you shouldn’t coddle your readers and protect them from spammers. If the right-wing Christian nutbag spammer/harrassers want to call people thespians (minus the th, plus an l, flip the p over), let them. More power to ‘em! Let them show themselves for who they really are: ignorant sheepminded flocks echoing the words of a homophobic priest (who is probably an in-the-confessional-closet homosexual anyway.)

Just spell 1esbian with the number 1 instead of the letter “l”!

  12. anadrol says:

It’s not to stop religious spam, that kind of crud is welcomed as every one likes a good sparring match one in a while. It is to stop primarily ads for erectile disfunction
    and the like.

I saw this story about a Xmas wreath that contained a peace sign:

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/27/peace.wreath.ap/index.html

Some of the lady’s neighbours complained b/c they thought it was a Satanic symbol (shows they are pretty ignorant about Satan?!?) and others b/c it offended those with relatives fighting in Iraq.

The homeowners board say they “will not allow signs, flags etc. that can be considered divisive.” I’m awestruck that peace signs are divisive… Anybody got a wreath with the Atheist atom symbol to donate to her???

The site begins, “Help send one million emails asking NBC to show Christians the same respect they show other religions.”

1 – NBC shouldn’t show respect for any other religion either–though I don’t know if they have or not. Xians certainly don’t.

2 – There is no mention of showing respect for nonbelievers.

I’m young and I hear that saying from my little sister all the time!

  17. alexatheist says:

I wonder if a gay pride rainbow flag would be allowed by these homeowners? or a yellow ribbon? or a creche/nativity display? who decides what is divisive and what’s not?

I think HOA’s should be made illegal. Forcing someone to bow to the will of others over petty nonsense is unamerican. Our constitution was written to protect the freedom of our people. The very first amendment to it was designed to protect our speech from the government. In a roundabout way a HOA uses the government to enforce their infringement upon the freedom of speech because they put a lien on your property and you cannot legally sell it until the lien is cleared.

It makes me sick that some people think it’s perfectly alright to take our most important rights away and to use the government to back their unconstitutional asses up.

  19. CAB4reason says:

Looks like the HOA has wised up and backed off:
DENVER: “A subdivision has withdrawn its threat of $25 daily fines against a homeowner who put a Christmas wreath shaped like a peace sign on the front of her home. Homeowner Lisa Jensen told The Associated Press on Monday that the board of directors of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association had apologized, called the incident a misunderstanding and had withdrawn its request for the wreath’s removal.”

  20. reason says:

under god in the pledge and in god we trust on money would not that meet the definition of blasphemy.

I think HOA’s should be made illegal.

I understand your point about HOA’s infringing on freedoms – however, you CHOOSE to live in a subdivision with a HOA. There are neighborhoods without them, so you do have a choice.

There is a HOA in my neighborhood, and I’m glad there is! I don’t want to live in a place where my neighbors can put their car up on blocks!

It’s not that easy to get homeowners to comply with HOA rules, anyway! I was an officer on our HOA for a while, and I know that it takes a lot of effort to “force” someone to comply with the HOA rules.

I don’t know what the laws are in your state, but I’m pretty sure you can’t put a lien on someone’s house here just because they violate HOA rules.

If, after warnings are ignored, our HOA wants to pursue action against a homeowner, we go to the lawyer, who writes a letter. After that, I think our only recourse is to sue the homeowner.

Fortunately, we’ve never had to go that far. Our neighborhood is really nice, and almost everyone here has pride of ownership and maintains their house and yard nicely.

  22. pnuhn@gampac.org says:

    reason:
some have argued that “in god we trust” on money is not only blasphemy but also idolatry. the “one nation under god” has clearly been shown to be blasphemy and also against the teachings of Jesus in
    Matthew 6:5

“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.”

  23. cry4turtles says:

I used to like Madonna back in the early 80s. I thought she was orginal and talented. If I saw her in the street today I wouldn’t waste my spit on her. She is slimier than the slugs that Shrek eats. She turned her back on her responsibility to all the young girls that idolized her and turned into a mega-slut.

No scumy act, nor any sickening words that slither out from between her jizz-covered lips should have ANY MEANING TO ANYBODY. Madonna is a piece of shit; however, it would be hilarious if she shoved the cricifix where the sun don’t shine (though I’m not sure that poor Jeebus deserves that!). Perhaps she could do this on the steps of the Vatican? Now that would be a youtube clip!!!
