On October 11th, I posted “In God’s Name” pertaining to the four part series in the New York Times about the expansion of greed in religious organizations by obtaining more and more regulatory and tax breaks from state and federal governments in recent years. Now comes the first director of the Administration’s faith-based initiatives office in the White House, and left after the first six months on the job. He is a political science professor at UPenn. And guess what, he doesn’t agree that religious organizations receive too many regulatory and tax breaks from the government, in fact just the opposite. Of course, his sight is not all that perfect. Look where he printed his article, in William Kristol’s Weekly Standard, where all the news that is fit for Neo-Cons only is printed. The article is linked to in the title of this posting.Peter Nuhn

Not In God’s Name
Wednesday, October 18th, 2006“Darwin’s rottweiler”
Tuesday, October 17th, 2006Salon printed an interview with Richard Dawkins on Friday, October 13th that is linked to in the title to this posting. I enjoyed reading the interview and I hope you do to.Question: Dawkins says “to teach children that it is a fact that there is one god or that God created the world in six days, that is child abuse.”Do you agree?Peter Nuhn
Can I just tell you how much I’m loving this?
Sunday, October 15th, 2006I’m not the guy who rejoices in the despair of others — unless it’s the religious right. It’s no surprise the GOP mocks them behind their backs, and I’m sure Bush jokes have been told at the Fallwell dinner table, but I just LOVE to see their relationship hurting. And I don’t feel guilty for feeling great. The religious right have been mislead, and they have mislead their sheep, er, flock as a result. But I guess the flock should be used to that by now.Get active and get ready folks, our rebound is beginning. The Bush presidency is the height of the god-push, and now we will push back. This is going to be fun.
Michelle Quote
Sunday, October 15th, 2006Thanks to Mishy, who actually gave me the idea to start this blog, and provided this quote:
A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side.–Aristotle
Rove right, but FBI is also nuts
Saturday, October 14th, 2006http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-faith13oct13,0,3875008.story?coll=la-home-headlinesThis article explains how the conservatives are using the Religious right to get votes, while ridiculing them behind their backs. But who is using whom? The Christian right is geting $millions of taxpayer dollars FOR FREE in the guise of “faith-based initiatives, all a virtual gift from (or a purchase by) the GOP. So they use each other — and probably disrespect EACH OTHER in private (I am guessing this kind of attitude goes both ways, or at least it should).Keith Olberman report on YouTubeRemember, FBIs do not allow religious groups to perform good acts with federal money. They already did that (Catholic Charities is a good example). FBI’s simply open the flood gates by allowing such distributions without government oversight, fiscal responsibility, or antidiscrimination laws. In short, it allows churches to break the law.
IN GOD’S NAME
Wednesday, October 11th, 2006DIANA B. HENRIQUES has written a very useful set of articles in the New York Times that is linked to in the title to this post. What I take away from these articles is that Amerika has repealed the First Amendment and has established Christianity as the official state religion of the United States of Christ. All three branches of government and all three levels of government (the legislative, executive, and judicial; as well the local, state, and federal) have abdicated their authority to this Christian state. Religious organizations in Amerika exist for the sole purpose of exerting power over us. These four articles in the NYT shows beyond a shadow of doubt that Christian religious organizations in the USC have demonstrated their ability to exert their authority over all levels of our government to the severe detriment of the people. The lack of support for poverty programs, affordable housing for the working poor, millions of children without any health care, lack of adequate education and the extremely poor pay for teachers, all of these problems can be laid at the door of all the churches in Amerika who spend all their time fighting to keep from providing the resources necessary to end these problems. That only leaves one question: who is the Ayatollah in charge of the United States of Christ? Please vote for your favorite candidate to be our Amerikan Christian Ayatollah from among the following listing of self appointed candidates:1. Dr. James C. Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family2. D. James Kennedy, founder and president of Coral Ridge Ministries3. Rev. Pat Robertson, founder, CEO and director of Christian Broadcasting Network4. Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for American Center for Law and Justice5. Tony Perkins, president and CEO of Family Research Council6. Rev. Louis P Sheldon, founder and chairman of Traditional Values Coalition7. Rev. Jerry Falwell, founder and director of Jerry Falwell MinistriesForget the November election. This is the only vote that counts.
On Muslims in Congress
Monday, October 9th, 2006http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060913/pl_nm/muslim_dcYes, we already have people in congress who believe in magic invisible men in the sky. Some even wear magic underwear.Truthfully, I’m OK with a Muslim congressman. He will put things in perspective for the religious right. BUT, IMO he must first denounce all Jihads, including the one against Salman Rushdie. All we need now is an Atheist in congress.
