http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-faith13oct13,0,3875008.story?coll=la-home-headlinesThis article explains how the conservatives are using the Religious right to get votes, while ridiculing them behind their backs. But who is using whom? The Christian right is geting $millions of taxpayer dollars FOR FREE in the guise of “faith-based initiatives, all a virtual gift from (or a purchase by) the GOP. So they use each other — and probably disrespect EACH OTHER in private (I am guessing this kind of attitude goes both ways, or at least it should).Keith Olberman report on YouTubeRemember, FBIs do not allow religious groups to perform good acts with federal money. They already did that (Catholic Charities is a good example). FBI’s simply open the flood gates by allowing such distributions without government oversight, fiscal responsibility, or antidiscrimination laws. In short, it allows churches to break the law.

Somethings wrong with the link: when I click on it I get a “Page Not Found” error.
After reading the article I think the worst charge from this book is that the Fart Blast Initiatives are being used as a way to buy votes. This article also reminded me of Seneca’s famous saying that “Religion is considered true by the common people, as false by the wise, and by rulers as a tool.
Thi can be wrapped up with one phrase: “Gee, big surprise”.
Of course, I’m being sarcastic. Buti I digress. Onto the gist of the issue.
Dave made a great point. The leaders of the Religious Right probably don’t care if Rove and his goons call then nuts behind closed doors. I wouldn’t doubt that many of these religious leaders say the same thing about their own flocks.
The common bond that holds this political alliance together is pure unfettered power over society. That’s all they ever cared about, anyway, and history proves it.
Frankly, it’s also very illegal, and American Atheists would be smart to take this story and run with it.
Call the lawyers. Attack. If America is going to survive, then it’s time to de-fang these fucks, sue to remove their tax exempt status and then have them brought up on charges of election fraud, treason, and conspiracy to undermine the constitution and Bill of Rights.
well put dave. i wonder what spanders and phreedm think as they represent opposite ends of their faith.
More republican bullshit more religious bullshit. And I couldnt even get the link to work but not that I really need to. I already know the freaking story its been played out over and over again. Both are in bed the repubs get votes the relgious right gets money the greedy bastards. And those of us outside of there little bedroom antics get screwed. Of course the dems have also been doing similair against us in the gay comunnity look at the marriage debate for that. Ah fugg it Im out of here see y’ll later.

The good thing is that this Faith-Based scandal sounds verifiable — just correlate the tightest 2004 congressional races with the districts that received the most Faith-Based money. But will the mainstream media bother to do the investigative footwork when it’s easier to bloviate about the name-calling?
I saw the Kuo interview on 60 Minutes tonight. He came off as a pissed off Fundy to me, which is bad for the Republicans, but after hearing what the Dems are spouting in some races (Ford in Tennessee for example), and Independents like Kinky Friedman here in Texas, I’m finding it harder and harder to vote for anyone. They all whore themselves to the religions.
And glad to see you back, Udonman.
I wonder how many of the bible-thumping preachers on tv and mega-churches are in fact themselves true believers.
I seems more likely to me that they are just in it for the money and power, a la L. Ron Hubbard. Basically they are doing their show, often a Las Veegas(las v-gas is refused by the software) style tacky show. But it makes them rich. I think that is often the bottom line.

Here is a more interesting question for lefties. What if the government or its mafia allies or multi-national corporate bosses killed a famous opposing journalist like Michael Moore, as recently happened in Russia? What would the left do?
Mickey Z. examines the question.
http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Oct06/MickeyZ11.htm
” So, what would the American left wing do if Moore were deported like Emma Goldman, Charlie Chaplin, and (almost) John Lennon? What if he was railroaded, denied a fair trial, and imprisoned like, say, Mumia Abu-Jamal or Leonard Peltier? What if he was to be publicly executed even in the face of massive protests, e.g. Sacco and Vanzetti, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, Tookie Williams, or Ken Saro Wiwa of Nigeria? How about an assassination; a straight-out hit job along the lines of Fred Hampton, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, or even Patrice Lumumba and Salvador Allende? “
