A message from the religious reich
Monday, August 28th, 2006MIAMI, Florida (AP) — U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is “a lie” and God and the nation’s founding fathers did not intend the country be “a nation of secular laws.”The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will “legislate sin,” including abortion and gay marriage.Harris made the comments — which she clarified Saturday — in the Florida Baptist Witness, the weekly journal of the Florida Baptist State Convention, which interviewed political candidates and asked them about religion and their positions on issues.Separation of church and state is “a lie we have been told,” Harris said in the interview, published Thursday, saying separating religion and politics is “wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers.”Electing non-Christians a ‘legislative sin’”If you’re not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin,” Harris said.
This kind of religious bigotry sickens me. It just so happens that it’s coming from the person who put our president into office in the first place. Isn’t it funny how this kind of crap only fomes from religious Christians? Think “If you’re not with us, you’re against us”.I would like to personally and publicly challenge Ms. Harris to debate me on this issue. I dare you to face me, Ms. Harris, on your terms, for free, and time.
Once Again, Ignorance Climbs To New Heights
Monday, August 28th, 2006:crazy:
“To put it simply, no Darwin, no Hitler,” said D. James Kennedy, president of Coral Ridge Ministries. “The legacy of Charles Darwin is millions of deaths.”
Yea — that’s right. The Coral Ridge Ministries in Fort Lauderdale, FL, are airing a so-called documentary on cable TV called “Darwin’s Deadly Legacy.” Now this group being called the American Taliban Theocrats are trying to blame Hitler’s actions in the holocaust on the scientific work of Charles Darwin. And I always thought it was the Christian thing to do, you know, persecuting jews for past twenty centuries. What do you think?BTE
On the Internet
Saturday, August 26th, 2006The Workmen?s Circle/Arbeter Ring has just signed on to the ?Save the Internet? Coalition, a campaign to prevent Congress from passing legislation that would jeopardize web neutrality. A group of large corporations, such as Verizon and ATT, are lobbying Congress to enable them to serve as gatekeepers to the Internet, so that they could determine which sites would be easier to access based on fees that would be paid. The coalition was brought to my attention by the folks at NJPIRG and mirrors very closely our resolution on the Internet approved at our 2006 National Convention (copy below).I urge you to sign on to the coalition as well by going to their web site: www.savetheinternet.org Check to see whether your Senator supports web neutrality, and if they do not, contact them and urge that they do so.
This is not an American Atheists position, just my opinion. Allowing megacorporations to have a say in which sites get “priority” sounds terrifyingly like allowing them to block sites altogether, effectively squashing free speech on the Internet. Where would the NoGodBlog sit on their list of priorities?
I don’t like it, so you can’t see it!
Thursday, August 24th, 2006Conservatives ask FBI to investigate hotel pornTuesday, August 22, 2006; Posted: 2:09 p.m. EDT (18:09 GMT)NEW YORK (AP) — Pornographic movies now seem nearly as pervasive in America’s hotel rooms as tiny shampoo bottles, and the lodging industry shows little concern as conservative activists rev up a protest campaign aimed at triggering a federal crackdown.
OK so this is slightly off topic — but only slightly. This is another example of the religious wrong telling us to do it their way BY LAW (also see abortion and Gay marriage). Porn is not right for them, therefore nobody can pay to see it.Ironically, Marriott makes a ton of money off porn in their hotels, but they are also a Mormon owned and run company. Just thoght I’d slide that in.
Well, we dodged the apocalypse again yesterday
Wednesday, August 23rd, 200688| – Wrong again and again and again. The Neo-Cons predicted that the apocalypse would occur yesterday and yet the sun rose again this morning. Jerusalem did not go up in a mushroom crowd. Neither did Washington, DC. I know because I live in the Washington metropolitan area. Oh well, I’m certain this will not deter them from their prediction of the end of the world again next week.BTE
Cameron’s “History”
Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006Mr. Cameron (forget his first name, the Titanic guy) made a special on the History channel about the Exodus. I didn’t see it, but apparently is was wrong in many areas. The biggest error is one on which I can comment having not seen the movie — it was on the History channel! Folx, the Bible is not history, it’s mythology. When the History channel airs stuff like this, it legitimizes the story as fact. It gives the viuewer the wrong information. We get the same thing from CNN, FOX, and ABC news when they do stupid reports such as “Is Armageddon coming?”. It totally takes away from the legitimacy of the channels, and I think we should let them know. I know I trust these stations less when they abandon fact for a story about fantasy presented as fact.
Mom, I’m Home!
Sunday, August 20th, 2006Back from Camp Quest and finally clean! For the first time in a week I took a shower and didn’t immediately douse myself in bug spray afterwards. Tonight, I sleep in a bed that’s actually big enough for me.In the end, the bugs weren’t bad at all, and the kids were great. We had a great time with the horses, the climbing wall, the waterfront, and yes, even a little education. My daughter had a great time, and I loved watching her and her new friends bond.THANK YOU to peter for filling in in my absense, and to all the annointed members for deleting some of our favorite trolls. Now, a question: How many of you are members of organizations like American Atheists, FFRF, AHA, SSA, etc? Are you members of one, several, or none, and why?
