On a related note: I was wondering if anyone has compiled a list of companies to avoid because of support for radical religious groups. I thought about this idea recently when, as an attorney myself, I looked into the attorneys that were arguing for intelligent design in Pa. The lawyers came from the Thomas More Law Center, which was founded by Tom Monaghan (founder of Domino's Pizza).

I am also from Chicago, so I have plenty of reasons to hate Domino's Pizza but it was troubling to me that the money I spend could end up funding something like intelligent design.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has thought about compiling a list of companies to avoid. I have seen similar lists based on political leenings but not specifically related to funding of radical religious groups.
Now, seeing that Dobson, Falwell, et al use the money collected for their ministries (or given to them because of their positions in the ministry), HOW THE F___ DO THEY KEEP TAX-EXEMPT STATUS? I guess DOG doesn't believe in taxes.

This whole movement is very scary to me------Ameriraq?

As for companies:

e-harmony rejects those looking for same-sex partners. Their advertising shows absolutely NO racially mixed couples at all. No word on whether or not you must sign a chastity agreement before registration.

Hobby Lobby, through the grace of the LRDO, has been able to branch out and rip-off even more people with their "christian" companies and offerings. I believe they are a private company, so can they discriminate against homosexuals and those living in sin?

And of course, AT&T, MCI, and Sprint all promote por_no_grap_hy, supports equal (special) rights for homosexuals, supports LEGAL abortion, and OMG, doesn't give any money to help spread the gospel of the lord. Given that info, you'll certainly want to check out this "better" phone company:

http://www.christianphonecall.com/christian_company_phone.html

JEEZ!!!

a bit off topic:
Peter,

You really should disclose that you work for GAMPAC when you ask others to give money. Just saying you support them is under-representing the connection a little don't you think?

I think GAMPAC is an interesting concept, I just think you should disclose your connection in full (i.e., "I am its legislative affairs dir." or put your title after your name, etc.). I hardly think you hide the connection but it should probably be more obvious to those unfamilar with your posts.

"There's no mugging of their free speech," Gunn said. "They talk about freedom and liberty. What they really want is the government to endorse their version."
Never a truer word spoken! They can argue their point all they want, they can put whatever religious spin on their arguements they want, but the good thing is that the judges are the ones that make the final decisions. The Supreme Court really are the ones we should be worrying about, it will be interesting to see if Roberts goes against precedent when some of these cases comes up.

A little bit askew, but here is a statement by one of those protecting us from the forces of evil. This person was in the Pentagon on 911. Spot the contradictions.

"In retrospect, I guess that I was pretty
darn close, both chronologically (having
left the Command Center about 5-10 minutes
before the crash) and geographically
(the demolished spaces are effectively
beyond one wall from my office), to the
impact. One cannot explain why some are
chosen to go and others not, but I have
spent a great deal of time thanking God for
sparing me and, more importantly, for
sparing my family the grief.
I am hopeful and confident that we, as a
country, will do what needs to be done, and
will go on being, not perfect, but, to date,
the finest example of democracy and freedom
in world history.
I wish to repeat, all of your prayers, emails
and phone calls have been greatly
appreciated and give us great strength. No
words can express our gratitude. Now
please let?s focus our prayers on those who
were less fortunate than I and for the souls
of those who committed these heinous
acts, for their eternal suffering in Hell will
be far greater than any pain they have
caused people here on earth."
from bernada's quote
I am hopeful and confident that we, as a

Elections are suspect and arguably unfair. The government lacks transparency and is to some degree corrupt and ineffective in serving the needs of its constituents in favor of its contributors.

Freedoms are being eroded constantly.

While it's certainly not a bad place to live it's hardly the finest example of anything in world history except perhaps rampant consumerism and narcissism.

Peter,
I'm with Smartypants on this one. I fully believe in truth in advertising.

I remember being upset a while back when the ONDCP put out commercials saying, "drugs are bad, em'kay? so don't do drugs". And they spent a bunch of tax dollars doing it and didn't identify who was bankrolling the ads.

I thought that was comtemptuous, and wouldn't want you to be accused of doing something similar, when I know that is not your intent.

Now, anybody want to point me to a link where I too can become a card carying member of AA?

Heathen,

Probably spoken by someone who had only lived in America. You have a different perspective if you have travelled extensively or have grown up in another country.
Hell, look toward the Netherlands. You can freely go to Amsterdam do drugs and get laid (if you want to) and NOT be thrown into prison. Seems like that place is definitely more free.
