So many wrongs, if only more people did something about this. I will plan a way to voice myself but how? I can write a letter to the people in charge of the 9/11 thing and kindly voice myself on that. I should do more when I get the chance though, the Christians are voicing themselves endlessly while Atheists are all too quiet. Atheists tend to be quiet because they are outnumbered, well look at the blacks! They fought and died for freedom and they got it, can't we?

I am not saying we take up arms but I am saying everyone should do SOMETHING, like write a letter to a senator or something. Above all though, if someone speaks out againts those who use logic, then speak with logic and maybe they will grow a brain.

They are the oppressors while we are the oppressed! We should start by changing the pledge and getting rid of "In God We Trust" in our money. I also think we should have an amendment that bans faith matters involved in public life that offend a wide range of people, such as the "In God We Trust" on our money and our own motto: "God Bless America". We have to get ride of that crap so we can clean up everything else, like that 9/11 cross, which should NOT be put up.

What is wrong with our country that makes so many people SSSOOO stupid? Really, look at the south, it is embarrassing! Geez...

I sent the following email to Mayor Bloomberg and Gov. Pataki:

I am writing concerning the display of the "miracle cross" at the World Trade Center as a memorial to the 9/11 tragedy.
I would like to point out that finding intersecting beams in the wreckage of buildings of this type is certainly not miraculous, nor even extraordinary.
Displaying a cross would honor only the Christians who died in this event, and snub people of other religions, or of no faith at all. This would be a divisive act, rather than a unifying one, and panders to religious selectiveness. While Christianity is a major influence in this country, it is not representative of all. We pride ourselves as a nation on our plurality and acceptance of differences. Marking this site with a cross elevates those with ties to Christianity higher than any other group or individual, and that is not what America is about.
It is also unconstitutional to create religious displays on public property. Why cause further turmoil in the form of lawsuits by pushing this religious agenda?
Private property would be the correct place for the display of this symbol. Those who find meaning in it could still pay homage, without it offending those who hold other beliefs.

Thank you for your consideration.
The kindness of a reply is appreciated.
Rome is burnin'! Anyone got a fiddle?

It's a shame nobody has access to Fresh Kills landfill. We could take any random piece of debris from the WTC and say it looks like the FSM and we demand it has it's place and story alongside the cross.

The real shame is, until the citizens of this country realize why we were struck in the first place and reign in our paternalistic, militaristic approach to foreign policy, we'll only have MORE memorials to build.

Now, about the BSA. I was a cub scout, but never made it to the boy scouts. I was already pretty uncomfortable with God and religion by the time I was 10, and cub scouts could be almost like sunday school at times. I didn't care much for the oath, either.

Having said that: BSA is a private organization and as such can exclude anyone they wish. They can discriminate against girls, gays, godless and I suppose even blacks or jews, if they really wanted to.

What they cannot do, IMO, is discriminate against any one of these groups AND receive millions of federal tax dollars, in kind, in the form of the use of Ft. A.P. Hill, in VA, and a detatchment of soldiers and all their equipment, like med-evac heliocopters, etc...for two weeks each summer.

If they accept federal tax dollars, they should be required to follow the same federal guidelins that all other entities that do buisiness with the gov't are required to follow.

I'm not going to hold my breath, though. If I understand it correctly, the faith based pandering law that gives so much of our tax dollars to churches and a few token jewish temples, allows the ones that receive federal funds to discriminate on a religious basis, in their employment practices.

Write your congressmen if you like, but you would do better to buy one like the corporations and special interests do.

Write your congressmen if you like, but you would do better to buy one like the corporations and special interests do.

I understand your frustration, and I would love to have enough money to buy a congressman, but alas, I don't.

Inaction implies concurrence.
If we regard contacting our representatives as futile, we relinquish our voice. Maybe one or two letters can go by unnoticed, but if we all raised our voices and went on record in opposition, we would be harder to ignore.
It may seem insignificant, but there has to be a beginning for a groundswell to follow.

Not that I'm a cockeyed optimist about it; I'm really rather cynical. However small, this is something I CAN do.
Very well written, Karen. Good for you.

I'm afraid to attempt anything remotely resembling an official letter. They inevitably turn into tirades and I rarely to never end up sending them. So, I just save myself a bunch of time and stress and don't start.

People like you make the world a better place. You're like an anti-phreedm.
