It's part of an ominous plan by Dominionists; see
http://www.talk2action.org/story/2006/5/3/142026/3154
Their language sounds an awful lot like that of radical Islamists -- putting God (Allah) in control, "submission, obedience, inspection of the personal lives of people, and the loss of personal rights and freedom that would make America's founding fathers stand on their heads in their graves."

We need to start not giving these guys any First Amendment slack, because they want to destroy the Constitution and its Bill of Rights. In short, we should be accusing them of sedition -- plain and simple -- and there are laws against that which do not protected under it under the First Amendment clause concerning religion.

Why else do you think they keep banging away at the stupid notion that the Founders intended this to be a Christian nation?

Dave,

That's hideous! You should go to the next school assembly dressed as a pirate, forcing kids to worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster against their wishes. Maybe christians just need to see how it feels to have ridiculous beliefs forced upon them.

Not exactly on the subject, but in your backyard nonetheless. Have you looked at the site you link to with "Killer Moslem Cartoons"?

It is WorldNetDaily which in a large part is devoted spreading christian propaganda. Look at their links and the books they sell.

There is a book by a woman who wrote a poem to Jesus. There is another "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam(and the Crusades)" which justifies the Crusades.

In their editorial review they say, "Muhammad vs. Jesus: proof that Christianity teaches peace and Islam violence -- and that there is nothing in the Bible that rivals the Qur'an's exhortations to warfare."

Perhaps it is purely an educational link to show us some real crackpots.

I can do little but shake my head sadly when I hear things like this. I simply cannot understand why the theistically inclined need to force the situation. I'm sure you are correct, both were aware of what they were doing and did it anyway.

Is it possible that this kind of defiance is established in higher churches and spread to the smaller ones? Or is possibly the government's weak reaction to it simply inspiring others as an otherwise mild student becoming rowdy in a class being taught by a substitute teacher when egged on by his/her peers?

As for the school system is concerned, they'll simply have to make a decision: Does a school count as "the public square" and should be afforded all the protections of the First Amendment, or is it a publically funded institution with a captive audience? If it is the former, then they would have to allow all commentary, including dissent and allow students to respectfully decline attendance. If it is the latter, then they're going to have to live within the letter of the law and leave the sermonizing to the church.

Wow.....amazing. Almost as bad as holding church within the halls of congress.

Oh wait...that's exactly what our Founding Fathers did.

Did any other students or parents complain? What was the purpose of the assembly?
Lot's of unanswered questions.

But if 99 out of 100 didn't mind the assembly then why not change schools or (dare I say it) homeschool instead of forcing one person's beliefs upon the majority?

sure action will be taken

And you wonder why survey's show many within the general public say they don't trust atheists...

NDOP? Nope...but what state do you live in? If that happened outside the bible belt then that can't be good at all (not that is good in the south but it happens more often). You have taught your daughter well though, good job David. It is people like you and your daughter that inspire me to go even further in my push againts religion and murder. I have not been vocal enough about this and I must push for this civil rights movement. I cannot allow people like that mayor to rule how we live, not now, not ever. I will not follow discriminatory laws and will NEVER swear on the bible if I ever go to court. I will NEVER AGAIN say "under god" in our pledge. I can do little about "in god we trust" on our money but I can openly complain about it in public. It is time I really start doing my part. I want our country to release the shackles of discriminatory outlooks. Logic and reason will always prevail over blind faith.
