Just got back from a short trip, only to hear that my daughter tried to WALK OUT of a school assembly because the session was opened by a minister who invited all the participants to thank Jesus.Daddy’s girl.Sure, action will be taken, but I just want to say how much it irks me that the minister was brought by the Mayor, both of whom certainly knew they were breaking the law.Has anyone heard any news on the NDOP? I haven’t!

Not only am I terrified of needles, because they’re so painful for me, but I don’t even weigh enough to donate. Until I can meet the minimum weight requirement, I just make a donation to the Red Cross whenever I see the bloodmobile.
To all of you in NC: If you can arrange some sort of meet-up or mini Atheism convention, I’ll be there. I live in GA. That’s too far away to attend the big convention in TX, but I don’t mind driving up to NC. We really need a convention that covers the Southeast.
Forensic theres one like that on the way out to the hobby town hobby plex
its just along the side of the road no writing whats so ever and the city just leaves it up hell its made of 4×4′s and its about 8 foot tall every time I drive by its distracting and a road side hazard either some ones going to hit it or look over and get distraced and couse an accident
AT,
Jawohl, Frau Quick ist mein Schwiegermutter. She’s an extremly accomplished traveler.
Great to see all the locals. Udonman, thank you for the stimulating conversation. I hope we have company when next we meet. Maybe we can get the convention here in a few years.
As far as crosses or stars of david or Flying Spaghetti Monsters (cbuh); as long as they are not paid for with tax dollars like the ones in Utah with the U state highway patrol emblem on them, and as long as they don’t interfere with highway maint. crews, like lawn mowers, I say they’re protected by the 1st Amendment.

Absolutely. Might I suggest you say it really quickly… when the words mumble together it sounds even more confusing and even somewhat medically significant. It’s not. But since no one knows what it means, you can use it for whatever best suits your purposes.
ren yeah the atheist convention in omaha I can see the weird heralds headline now
Godless Heathens Converge on Qwest Center
yeah ren no problem we do need more people maybe after a while of meeting regurly we can put up fliers on like uno campus or whatever or the old market
well back on topic david did your doughter actually leave the assembly or was she physcially stoped at the door and forced to remain in the assembly hall or whatever
if she was actually forced to stay Id say time to threaten lawsuit of course you might have a better chance in court there then here in the midwest but it would be worth it now on the other hand if she was allowed to leave with threat of punishment that makes it a tough call
and ps I know youve been busy with this whole fiasco and it may sound petty but are you still going to put me up on the blog roll and email me when you know the location of the 2007 convention
peace
Tony
Count me in as one of the NC triangle atheists too.
Jumping in late on this thing tonight (I’ve posted a couple of times, been lurking for a while, though).
Damn! What is it with living in the NC Triangle area and being on this board? Maybe because we are the most educated area in the country???
Also, you guys are a bunch of wimps about needles. I poke myself everyday, twice a day at least, because of insulin dependent diabetes. I think it’s funny when people are needle shy. Toughen up you bunch of poofs.
Alex.
well alex theres three of us here in the omaha area and one that moved away so we are catching up and im only syringe shy not needle shy I have no problems getting pierced but syringes if im not in control of the syringe forgot it I had one break off when I was five and get infected no way do I like syringes at all

I know the pilot Douglas Cairns who flew around the world solo with type 1 diebetes hes got a good book out Dare to Dream its about his flight
Why is Dave so interested in NDOP?
The National Digital Orthophoto Program (NDOP) was chartered in 1993 as a consortium of Federal agencies with the purpose of developing and maintaining national orthoimagery coverage in the public domain by establishing partnerships with Federal, State, local, tribal, and private organizations.
NDOP = National Day of Prayer

The US was never meant to be a Christian country… The founders George Washington, Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin all were Deists (people who believe in a non-Christian God that created everything who doesn’t take sides or do anything other than create). The term “In God We Trust” is actually referring to the deist god not the Christian god, which is why those christian assholes should start learning their history and realize how much they’re wrong.
It’s true that some of the founders were deists, but the motto “In God We Trust” has an explicitly Christian history according to the Treasury Department.

I have done that once. But it was on National Prayer Day last year. At school, they brought in a priest and we had to pray for 15 minutes straight! And this was in PUBLIC school! I just stood up, after about 3 minutes of sitting and being surrounded by people praying, and walked out. I was followed by some Jews and Buddhists also. It felt so good, but all of our parents were called and had to come pick us up from school. We were then suspended for a week for doing what we knew was right!
I must confess, I’m niether an atheist nor a christian. I do however have common sense. Your daughter done the right thing by leaving the assembly. But on the other hand for the people that believe in christianity, they too have the right to participate. This is by no means a bashing thread but this country was founded on christian beliefs and if you dont like what’s going on, don’t participate. its that simple. And being a free country, you have that right. On the other hand, if a person does believe in christianity or any religion, that too is their right as an american. As Atheist, you are doing the same thing that you are accusing christians of doing, which is pounding beliefs in our children. Sounds to me like Atheist children are learning from you that this is the only belief. Let them decide on their own. That is their right as a person and an American. In my opinion, Christians believe in God to give them a sense of hope upon death, whether right or wrong, and I do know that they are people on both sides of the spectrum that push their beliefs way too far! God to them, makes death alittle bit easier, and that’s all it is. It is a bit depressing to think without a god that when you die, there is nothing. I let my children decide for themselves what they believe in. I don’t force anything on them. I just seen a post on yahoo stating that Atheist is sueing for proof of Jesus. Christians should sue Atheist for proof that there wasn’t a Jesus. After all, none of us has died yet and none of us has spoken to anyone that has died to prove or disprove anything! Please just use common sense and stop this sueing. If you don’t believe in something, just don’t participate because your trying to take away someone else beliefs in the process. Everyone has rights to believe in what they want.
Late comer, sorry.
I’m a little south of the triangle, in J’ville. Be sure to post an announcement of a meet up.
Peace.
