Unfortunately, I don't see an open atheist being elected prez anytime soon. Too many morons associate religious belief with morals, and the (il)logical extrapolation to the absence of one dictating the absence of the other.

Personally, I would find a man or woman who would look me in the eyes and admit they had no faith in god more innately trustworthy, considering the fact that politicians *typically* say whatever is popular, and so you would know this person wasn't pandering...

I think the only way that would happen is if someone ran and "forgot" to mention they were an atheist until after they were elected. Of course, they would probably soon after find an excuse for impeachment. In other words, I don't see it happening in the near future. Maybe after the first female or minority gets elected an atheist will have a chance.

Most american thinks that on the same day an invisible man in the sky created both humans and the Tyrannosaurus rex. These voters would never elect an atheist to anything.

After his election to the House of Representative, Abe Lincoln listened to a sermon by his defeated oponent.

The preacher asked those who were heaven-bound to stand. Lincoln refused.

"Mr. Lincoln," the man asked, "aren't you going to heaven?!"

"No, sir." Lincoln replied. "I'm going to Washington DC."

(Read that in a biography a few years back.)

A politician that said the earth was the center of the universe would have a better chance to be the usa president than an atheist.
