Nope, I don't celebrate it or even care about it. It's one of those holidays that I tend to forget about, unless I'm reminded of it.

It's just another manufactured holiday from the secretive and shadowy greeting card and florist cabal to encourage mass consumerism. :-)
alexgator1:

It's just another manufactured holiday from the secretive and shadowy greeting card and florist cabal to encourage mass consumerism.

Actually, no it's not.
Valentine's day originated in the catacombs of Rome, where 1 St. Valentinus used to join xtians in secret wedlock during persecution.
Yep. It's a religious holiday.
Man, hope my next GF is an atheist. How can I refuse to bring her flowers & chocolate, because of its religious origins?
What woman other than an atheist would understand?

I celebrate it if whomever I am with chooses to. My girlfriend likes the idea of a day to, above and beyond the norm, celebrate our relationship. to do extra special things for each other. I look at this as a cultural reinforcement of love. thats it. I could give a rats ass if it does have the word 'Saint' in it. (not like most people say the saint part anymore anyway)

I agree with Dave though, it may be a drummed up Hallmark holiday, but at least it treats a serious human and cultural artifact. I think it is a neat idea I guess. Marketing and hallmark can make it a little pernicious, but so what. Thats what marketing and hallmark exist for, to make people feel guilty enough to open their wallets for not being sentimental enough. Just dont buy a card. problem solved. I thik the real problem is that people feel that buying things like cards at hallmark is a sufficient and, most often, official commemoration of a holiday. How uncreative. But as I said, that is the nature of capitalism, no surprise.
