I just got the OK to add a blog roll – thanks to all who suggested it.This thread is for the submission of blog roll links. Please post your request with a Title, description of the page, a link, and please include a link to the NoGodBlog on your blog roll if applicable.I will subjectively decide which links get included, based on relevance and whether or not there is offensive content. I’ll be pretty lenient – I want a large roll.Rock on!

hairless, RA,
Yeah, I was only speculating as to how it might’ve started. As far as why it’s still a problem, I just chock it all up to biblical literalism. Once you accept the ridiculous premise that the superstitions of a bronze age society could have any bearing as to how we should conduct ourselves today, then the rest is practically science.
Speaking of sexual diversity,
There’s a book out now that I’m very interested in picking up, as soon as I find time to finish ‘The End of Faith,’ ‘On Humanism,’ and ‘Life as We Do Not Know It’ (geezus, why can’t someone just pay me to read?) – It’s call ‘Evolution’s Rainbow, Diversity, Gender, and Sexuality in Nature and People’ by Joan Roughgarden. I’ve been thumbing through it every time I hit the book store. From what I can tell, it seems like a great read. Maybe one of ya’ll can grab a copy and let me know.

i agree with you to a point spanders but let’s face it. what can i, as an atheist, offer to a devout xtian except apply logic to try and open a mind. i am certainly NOT going to be able to compete with the lure of “accept jesus christ as your savior and everything will be clear to you, and your life will have purpose and meaning, and you will be taken care of in relative bliss for eternity”. i AIN’T a magician.
i have to hand it to all the religious groups that use the same basic type of psycological hook. it’s powerful stuff to those who are not as secure in their human skins and their place in the universe as i think i am.
anyway i appreciate being able to have this discourse with you. but we both know that others that visit here wouldn’t be open to even discussing what we just discussed no matter the manner in which it was presented.
rainbow,
how do you find time to read all these thing? seriously.
rainbow, i was referring to the books that you often mention.
flanonblvr,
and yes, I appreciate being able to discuss with you. I understand that you’re not a magician. However, I think that if you speak with most Christians, after you get through a defensive shell, you may find a gooey center that may not be all that happy with what they believe. I find an effective approach is one of asking questions. I ask questions like what is important to them and how they got to where they are. Sometimes what people share is surprising. At times I grow tired of listening to me talk. I prefer hearing what someone else has to say.
How about you? What’s important to you? Obviously logic is a good start. How did you come to value logic as you do? Was it a gradual path or more or one event? I’m fascinated by how people get to where they are.
Hairless, RD4R
If you dont mind me stating what I have learned recently about human sacrifice… is that it only surfaced in human history after many generations of drought and famine in Saharasia. Their have been many studies that show that children who do not get the proper nutrition do not devolope correctly and the most effected is the brain. The parts of the brain that control our empathy and compassion do not devolope. It doesnt develope because during drought and famine mothers are less responsive to their infants. The infant itself weak from starvation then withdraws and become emotionless and harded. There is noway to reverse the effects to the brain due to starvation. Some will suffer milder effects than others. This is still being see in children in Africa and other countries of drought and famine along with crazy beliefs in appeasing god(s). Over all it stemed out of drought and famine. Which makes the most sense to me. Sorry I have to cut this short I have rush out the door now , my husband is looking at me and burning a hole in my head. lol
Well, like I said, I haven’t really been able to lately. I’ve been really busy with both my day job and freelance work, plus I’ll be starting up with a new agency at the end of the month so I’m rushing to finish all my projects with my current employer. I’m also trying to devote more time to my family. But all that aside, we really don’t watch very much TV at the rainbow house, and that helps a lot. It’s amazing how many more hours suddenly appear in a day once you start regulating tube time. Also, my wife and I tend to read a lot of these books together – it’s fun to be learning the same thing side by side and get to share our perspectives with each other. Of course, we also read to the kids every night, the last book always being a ‘chapter book’ for our oldest (it keeps him interested while making the little ones very sleepy – perfect!) The current chapter book is ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.’ I also try to steal moments to get a paragraph or two in when I can, usually at lunch and on the toilet.
say_no,
That’s very interesting. It’s amazing just how fragile our humanity is. If the mind is becomes sick, damaged, or doesn’t develop properly, all the moralizing in the world won’t do a bit of good.

i’m a relatively simple person really.
my major goals in life are (in order of relative importance):
> to live in love and harmony with my wife with whom i have chosen to spend the remainder of my life.
> to raise my children to respect others, be a positive force in society and not a burden to society
> to treat my fellow man with dignity and respect but not to the detriment of myself or others.
> to strive to impart some bit of wisdom or philosophy to everyone i come in contact and extract the same from them in the hope that it will in some way be of use in making both our lives better.
> to live life with a certain amount of “gusto” because i only have one shot at it.
that’s about it.
as far as my logical side. i learned long ago that a man must temper his actions using a good balance between head (logic) and heart(compassion). overdose of either is bad for your well-being as well as that of others around you.
being an engineer, logic is important to my chosen labor function in society. and i take my responsibilities to my profession and my fellow man very seriously.
i have been fortunate to have inherited a good set of genes and i strive to use my talents to help others, not denigrate them. although some of my perceived/interpreted “xtian bashing” here may seem to contradict this, it is intended in the spirit of goal#4 above.
enough of me. what do you do in the lumber business? i love woodworking of any kind, did quite a bit when younger and wish i had more time to do more now.
Heads up! we’ve got a couple of Muslems on the first thread.
nice change of pace. RA must have succeeded in his recruiting drive.
