Before noon yesterday, I heard that the speech had already been through 28 rewrites and was at 36 minutes, without pauses for applause. Since Coretta Scott King died last night (gutsy lady), he'll need to make reference to that. Wonder how many more rewrites went on today.

My electric bill increased significantly by about 30 or 40 percent. This was not due to increased usage either. In fact my usage was lower than this time last year. Who can I thank for this??

Didn't watch, though I know "see no evil" does not mean "be no evil".
Just plum forgot it was now.
But, hell, even -without- listening to it, I can consider myself pretty sure that I didn't miss anything
earth-shattering.
(Like Shrubby completing a sentence without revealing his frontal lobotomy)
If I'm wrong, please do keep in touch.

Excerpt from the coming speech:
"In this decisive year, you and I will make choices that determine both the future and the character of our country. We will choose to act confidently in pursuing the enemies of freedom - or retreat from our duties in the hope of an easier life. We will choose to build our prosperity by leading the world economy - or shut ourselves off from trade and opportunity. In a complex and challenging time, the road of isolationism and protectionism may seem broad and inviting - yet it ends in danger and decline."
Isolationism? Who the hell is arguing for isolationism? If you are against a particular war, or at least the conduct of that war, how exactly does that add up to 'isolationism?' And notice how he's sneaking in references to the whole anti-globalization movement - as if the Iraq war was just another trade agreement. And what exactly is 'protectionism', anyway? W's always reminding us that his job to 'protect' us, so could he just be referring to himself?

I just find it interesting that he's making accusations of 'isolationism' - this coming from probably the most isolated administration in history. Which party walks away from international treaties and agreements? Which party ignores prevailing scientific wisdom in favor of the isolated opinions of a handful of ideologues and corporate whores? Which party prefers unilateral action to international law? Which party restricts access to the press, suppresses information, and actively destroys the careers of dissenting voices?

Boy, I really hate this son-of-a-bitch.
