Alito could very well turn back Roe vs Wade and the recent and few advances in gay rights. He definetly deserves the title "Scalito".

I got the first post! Ha! :-)
Ok. I don't know how well I did with my email content,It's hard to think with the baby hanging on me--- but this is what I buzzed off to my Senators:

"Senator Burr,
Senator Dole,
Please take a moment to reconsider what the nomination of Judge Alito to SCOTUS will do to the rights of women and gays and people not of the Christian faith in this country.
Approval of Judge Alito could turn back the clock for these minorities, and cause a great divide in the nation.
I urge you to vote "NO".
The favor of a rely is requested.

Respectfully,
Karen J. Kimball"

I think this is a little like trying to close the barn door with the horse halfway out already, but there you go.

We should all pitch in to stop this before America becomes a Thocracy! I will do my part and will post here when I do but please lets all do this before its too late!

I hope we can get enough emails in. I will write a few letters to my state senators (Maine) and try and get a few other people to do so too. I think we can do this if everybody follows Karen's good example, which by the way, was nicely done.

Athough I find Scalito kinda creepy, I can't see much sense in trying to filibuster his nomination. He seems to be qualified and that should be the only litmus test that counts.

If he were to be blocked it seems unlikely that anyone more 'liberal' would be nominated, and we would likely go through the same procedure with a Scalito clone.

At some point we have to accept the fact that the conservatives have control of the legislature and the executive. With such power it is inevitable that someone such as Scalito will be confirmed before the next elections.

karen,
Both my senators are republicans as well, Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson. And both have been very vocal in support of Alito.

But nonetheless, I sent emails a few minutes ago to both of them, telling them I was an atheist and expressing concern over the hold the RR has on the government and letting them know that not everyone approves of Alito.

I also checked the boxes for "response requested", so we'll see if I get one. I had to put my address and phone # on there so I hope they don't come yank me out of bed in the middle of the night or something! :)

With the Patriot act in place they just might yank you somewhere and call you a 'threat' to the peace! We have lost enough of our freedoms as it is and I hope we don't lose anymore. This is getting foolish of our government, which by the way well I don't know, should be representing us in some way or another! Things are getting messed up if you ask me. Stuff like this should be a no brainer for the senate but noooooooo.

Sigh.

HeatheNZ,
Agreed, the point is moot at the moment, and you're right, if by some strange reason Alito wasn't approved, the next candidate would be the same.

But, at least we can let them know we disagree.
