Democrat Terry Goodwin told reporters that he is eager to deliver an invocation on Wednesday and would "absolutely" mention Jesus Christ.

I thought only republicans were this stupid.

Free speech? I think it would be amusing to bring a babbling, rock-worshipping villager to one of these US courtrooms and see if the judges let him dance around (not to mention take him seriously).

Does anyone know when prayers started in the local, state and federal legislatures? How is it that this practice has been allowed to stand - from what I can tell - unchallenged?

I see nothing wrong with prayer in general, but when it becomes and issue, is becoes a problem. No one can stop a person from praying their own prayers. The problem with institutionalising prayer is that before long the people that don't pray -or follow what the majority thinks is prayer- become outcasts, and then all sorts of factions start to form. So, keep prayer in the mind, and in the church where is belongs.

I see plenty wrong with prayer in the first place (take life into your own hands, don't give it to some invisible man), but I do agree with the saying "to each his own". If these people want to pray, let them, but do not let them enforce their prayers in a public place of the state. I've got two words for anybody who disagrees: First Amendment. When somebody tries to force their religion on anyone or anything, they're breaking the law and need to be challenged.
