I’m Back!

What a great time we had at the rally! There were only about 200 or so that showed up, but there were several groups represented. Special thanks to the local Girl Scouts who handed out “Hero Chocolate” to all our veterans!I’ll be posting some news articles here if I get any. Please do so yourself if you see them. Start making plans now for Easter in San Antonio!http://www.townhall.com/news/ext_wire.html?rowid=32731

Psychologist James Dobson, noted for his conservative agenda, citicized the Republican controlled congress saying the GOP was responsible for slipping poll numbers. Speaking on Hannity and Colmes, Dobson said, “I’m telling you that the House and the Senate have not passed one single piece of legislation that I’m aware of that deals with the social issues that they ran on. There has been nothing. The Senate has confirmed judges, and I will give them credit for that. But beyond that, there’s very little.”

Now that you’re back, will you attend to imposter charlie?

What’s with Easter in San Antonio?

  3. avatar rainbows4dinosaurs says:

    Seeker,

If the GOP starts following Dobson’s agenda verbatim, they’ll be lucky be lucky to get 15% in the polls. Given that, I kinda hope they take his ‘advice.’

The recent Pat Robertson threats to the School Board of Dover for rejecting ID has received no attention here. This recent xtian attempt to intimidate shows the church is a terrorist organization. Terrorism is an attempt to use fear to control behavior. Robertson is using gawd to threaten Dover with disaster in an attempt to create fear in Dover. But, the church has gotten away with this terrorist tactic for so long I suppose no one notices

Actually, the subject has come up, as well as the story about Bill O’Reilly damning San Francisco. I believe it was r4d who brought it up. But we don’t have a thread on it. Haven’t had any new threads in a few days cos Dave’s been away at the Foxholes event.

It’s all about terror and control.
I’m reading an excellent book on the subject right now called “End of Faith” by Sam Harris. Very hard to put down. I hate that only 200 or so showed up for this last event, but I guess it’s a starting place. I wonder how many would have come if it had been held here in East Tennessee. It’s hard to come out of the closet and be seen as an atheist here in the mid section of the bible belt. I like to think there’s strength in numbers, but the number are hidden here.

Popie has weighed in on the situation as well….
“How many of these people are there today? These people, fooled by atheism, believe and try to demonstrate that it’s scientific to think that everything is free of direction and order”

” the story about Bill O’Reilly damning San Francisco.”
I’m a peaceable fella usually, but there’s someone I’d like to see if there’s a glass jaw connected to that big mouth.
Something about bullies just sets me right off, fer some reason.
Fox News. Snort! I’d trust the Daly Show 1st, at least they ADMIT they’re a fake news show.

    David:
    Welcome back.
I’d sing the Kotter lyrics, already did that for Nat. Sorry.
Do you think Robertson’ll lose followers when nothing happens to Dover?
Yeah, probably not. My guess too.
    1 can only hope.

Yea, whats with San Antonio? Several of us live there and would love to meet up.

Terrorism is an attempt to use fear to control behavior.

    True.

But kinda sweeping generalization. Does it apply to…

? The ACLU threatening schools with lawsuits?

? The IRS, whom more Americans fear than fear al Queda (I suspect)?

? DOT when it threatens to withhold funding from states that don’t enforce seatbelt laws?

? Rev. Jesse Jackson when he threatens business with discrimination suits?

    The list is endless.

When is using fear to modify behavior acceptable? Those making the threats nearly always believe they are right.

  13. avatar mxracer652 says:

    ef-seeker,
It’s only fear if you believe it, and I don’t think your examples can be considered terrorism, because they’re not threatening death or dismembering. Robotson is, indirectly, so yes, he is a terrorist. And actually for that matter, the abrahamic religions are terrorist organizations, with the constant threat of eternal damnation.

Sometime is is, sometime is ISN’T (for a play on your odd philosophy).

It is a sad statement of our times, that no 1 pays attention unless it costs money, or lives.

Sometimes fear is a necessary tool. Teaching children not to play w/razors, or put their little hands on hot burners, or run w/scissors.

That bloody reptilian hindbrain still has WAY too much say in our lives, adults or children, IMHO.

There ARE varying degrees. A little fear is essential in survival.

Too much fear frays the nerves, & shortens the life.

“In all things, be gentle w/thyself.”
Buddha? I think it was Siddhartha.
Will take correction on that quote.

  15. avatar reduxtian says:

Interesting events in Atlanta with the ACLU suing to have a Georgia law declared unconstiutuional. The ACLU is taking this action on behalf of a seller of spiritual books. The law in question states that no sales tax is to be collected on the sale of a bible. The seller of the spiritual material does not want to have to charge tax on other spiritual guidance manuals stating that she does not want to make other beliefs appear to be in a less favorable position. (not an exact quote, but you get the gist).

  16. avatar reduxtian says:

    The Seeker,
Forgive me for assuming everyone has read Mr. Robotson’s instructional manual. I am not referring to usual governmental blackmail, extortion, bribery, etc. When little Johnny is sent to his room for an attitude adjustment, no one is going be killed as a result. The kind of catalysm and destruction dear Pat is speaking of will result in mayhem, violence and death (the usual result of angering a punitive gawd).

Please tell us more about what will be going on in San Antonio. I live there as well. If you guys are planning on meeting up I would love to come.

there were fewer than 80 people at the atheist in foxholes event. why? is american atheists irrelevant or what?

  19. avatar reduxtian says:

Atheist are, generally speaking, a thoughtful group. They like to engage in intellectual endeavors. Their activities may not include straying far from their puters and exposing themselves to scrutiny and possible abuse from, for instance, violent religious zealots. This in no way means that American Atheist is irrelevant. It is just the opposite. Anyone who loves freedom (I do) should be supportive of the efforts of this fine organization. I’ve been a dues paying member for several years. Freedom makes more important the effort of those atheist in foxholes who are fighting for it in a very REAL way. I am not a warrior, but I know the hazardous nature of military operations. The foxhole atheist has overcome fear and superstition and is willing to give himself for the cause of freedom, even when that cause appears supportive of that same superstition he has overcome. This makes the foxhole atheist a very important proponent of freedom that surely has a deep understanding of the meaning of the First Ammendment and the important need to protect it. When I visit the American Athiest site, it is like a breath of fresh air amid a miasma of theocratic pollution. Nowhere else, except at American Atheist have I seen any mention given to foxhole atheist. So, from my perspective at least, American Atheist is very relevant. Thank you, American Atheist, for all you do to protect and promote our Constitutional freedoms and for giving recognition to the brave and noble foxhole atheists.
