Paris is burning

I wanted to make a thread just for the violence spreading through Paris. I hope they can get this calmed down before there are any more deaths.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051107/ap_on_re_eu/france_rioting_127;_ylt=AprLDTehcJ12S5v6CRvQJqngelIB;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl

    Now THIS is fucked up:

Powerful new evidence emerged yesterday that the United States dropped massive quantities of white phosphorus on the Iraqi city of Fallujah during the attack on the city in November 2004, killing insurgents and civilians with the appalling burns that are the signature of this weapon.

Ever since the assault, which went unreported by any Western journalists, rumours have swirled that the Americans used chemical weapons on the city.

I think I’m going to be sick.

I hope it ain’t true, but hope is a luxury these days.

r4d: I do not want to sound as a contrarian, but the haze of war is thick. Reports of atrocities are common by both sides of the conflict. I would like to see what other independent sources have to say before jumping to conclusions, although our track record in Irak is less than perfect…

    sm,

I agree. But after all the torture reports and this administrations conspicuous refusal to sign anti-torture legislation and all the other gawd-alful shit we keep hearing… I don’t know, guess I’m becoming a cynic.

Lest we forget, the root cause of all this nonsense, was Abraham’s refusal of accepting Ishmael as his heir.
The oil is just a recent development.

I’d rather side w/Dali, who placed the train station in Perpignon as the center of the world, than some desert land approx. 100 miles in length.

There’d be less bloodshed, I’d think.

“No it doesn’t. Reread the fatwa. It says nothing.

Actually yes we do know several families of Arab decent and granted they are converts to Christianity. “

Well, you get points for honesty, in my book. I wonder if the ‘decent’ misspelling is some sort of Jungian bra (get it? Freudian slip? Never mind). Just a typo? Curious.

Define ‘nothing’, if you would be so kind? Is that like ‘lip-synching’? Lip service? What?

On a different note, another query, if you don’t mind:
Do you really believe that G-d spoke to Shrub? Told him to invade Irak, establish a Palistinean state?

Because, in my uneducated, uninformed way, this seems symptomatic of all the issues: some religion of some sort decides a piece of land is the most important piece o’ real estate any side of the Pecos, & swoops in to take it. Maybe I’m simplifying too much, but it doesn’t seem right.

The earth is a big place. We need to put aside the territorial issues (religious or otherwise), & try to live in peace.

We can indeed, leave other people be. Stop defecating in other people’s backyards, & be astonished when they protest.

Just because we helped stop Hitler, doesn’t give us carte blanche indefinitely.

    Maybe that’s just me.

Actually, I do know an actual Muslim family. No, they have not converted. I went to a wedding reception, and my finance and I were the only two natural born American citizens in the room. Were we tortured? Burned? Beheaded?

No, we were treated with respect.

Also, the reason why I was invited is because one of my students was the sister of the groom. She had experinced all sorts of criticism and hatred after 9/11. Yet, she still did not go against her new home.

Not all Muslims support terrorism. Remember, what happens when you assume…

Here’s a little tidbit, to offset your constant nonsense about the ‘looming specter of Islam on the horizon’ drivel:

“But if al-Qaida thought the murderous act was a public relations coup, it miscalculated badly. Jordanian demonstrators gathered outside the shattered hotels, chanting “Burn in hell, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi!” and “Death to al-Zarqawi.” The Jordanians may be the most anti-Jewish population in the world (according to a recent Pew Research Center poll) but they weren’t fooled by al-Zarqawi’s rhetoric. This was an attack on Arab Muslims, who accounted for most of the dead.

“The Associated Press quoted one member of the wedding party: “No religion, no Islam, no Muslim people allow this to happen.” In Iraq and elsewhere, the Islamic terrorists, either out of frustration or a brutal, inscrutable calculation, are increasingly targeting their fellow Muslims. For much of the war on terror, moderate Muslims seemed to treat the conflict as being between the secular West, particularly the United States, and a fanatical Islamic fringe, remote from their daily lives. It was not their fight.”

There always seems to be exceptions to any of your rules, doesn’t there?

O.K. I know this is very late but I wanted to make sure this was dead before I made a final recap. Usually I am exposed to massive amounts of hatred. Being from Martinique (but living in Texas currently), technichally I am a French citizen. I am glad to see no blatant hatred of us for no tangible reason. Thank you all for treating my country and myself with respect.
