My sister work as a councilor for Planned Parenthood for a few years (boy was our dad pissed!) She's told me a few interesting stories about how often the same ladies who earlier had been picketing, blocking, and harassing patients would secretly come in months later to end a pregnancy - about how scared, confused, and distraught they were. Most of that guilt resulted in the fact that they had had premarital sex and they didn't want anyone at church to find out. Man that sucks.

The notion that PP 'encourages' women and girls to have abortion is totally bogus. They counsel every girl that walks through that, and all options and their consequences are fully discussed. Everyone agrees that deciding whether or not to continue a pregnancy is a huge decision, and that sometimes abortion is not the best option. But it is still a private decision, whether one agrees with the decision or not.
My view is abortion should be legal and in some cases mandatory like rap_e, i_ncest, teenagers 13 or younger, single moms with no job living at home, women with more than 3 kids already.
My sister in law will have one next week.

Fell in love with a guy (who told her he's against abortion), moved in with him, talked babies...

She gets pregnant, he throws her out and says he wants nothing to do with that baby.

My opinion is that abortion used as a contraceptive method is irresponsible and wrong (there are plenty other BC methods).
But abortion IS a necessary safeguard against unwanted situations.

I will humbly w/hold my opinion, as I don't have a uterus (unless of course, the resident Xtians start in w/their fallopian fallacies, at which point, it will be "once more into the breach, dear friends!")

Abortion is a tricky issue. As a man, it's difficult for me to arrive at a moral viewpoint because I'm unimpregnatable.

But, I still got an opinion. In a perfect world, abortion would be morally wrong. So would the death penalty. Some things that are morally reprehensible can nonetheless be practically necessary.

I'm not "for" abortion, and I don't believe that anyone really is. I'm for common sense. I'm for birth control. Abortion should be safe, legal, and RARE.

The death penalty is morally indefensible. It is revenge, pure and simple. However, I do think that there should be special prisons for murderers, a "prison Hell" if you know what I mean. If they die there, well, so what? Death does not really deter people. Hell, on the other hand...

Life is not sacred. Cancer cells are alive, and nobody cares about them. Human life is as sacred as we make it, and while I fail to see how abortion is morally correct, I can plainly see how abortion might be completely necessary. If you don't want a baby, don't make one. There are few excuses for getting pregnant when you don't want to be.
I have to agree w/ sword, abortion shouldn't be viewed as another birth control alternative, there are many others that work effectively. BUT, I realize there will always be exceptions, and accidents, and abortion should be legal, as it is that woman's personal decision to do so. Better sex education, easier access (monetarily & geographically) to BC are the proper methods to reduce unwanted pregnancies. We can all agree abstinence education does not work, after all, how many of you were virgins until marriage (yes, I realize that is religious dogma, and no I don't agree w/ it)?

swordstrike I agree ending an unwanted pregnancy by abortion is less desireable than not begining it to start with but the fact is women get pregnant and too many kids are born into the world and abandoned.
what do we do with babies from drug addicted moms that nobody wants?
