The american red cross is the best. You know your contribution is in good hands and will be used properly.

Why are they asking for donations when we as a nation can provide immediate help? This pres. went to war in Iraq and didn't ask for donations. Priorities I guess. You can really see and know what this little ass thinks about. He is the most dispicable person to ever be Pres.

We have the technology to rebuild the entire southeastern seaboard. To do it better. To do it well. And to do it thoughtfully. But it's hard. It's hard to get an education when the schools teach ID. When schools teach controversy. When prayer is an accepted responce. I do not have much hope in the people I see on TV. JIM
and as an engineer, it is mind boggling why anyone would build a city below sea level that is surrounded by large bodies of water. yes it is terrible for those who live there, but the statistics do not lie. i for one do not see any reason to try to rebuild, unless it means filling in NO to a more reasonable elevation & starting over.

has anyone else seen the 'god hates the US because there are 2 buildings missing in NY, NO is missing, some students in Colorado are missing, et cetera' chain of emails circulating?

it all points back to the fact that when the jesus-god was widely accepted publicly in the US, none of these terrible things happened!

nevermind the fact that US foreign policy might be at blame, or an unusually warm atlantic temperature, or a society that refuses to take blame for its own actions. its all bs.

Now is not the time to trot out our disdain or criticism of deists and calling for help from 'god' or asking for prayers. This is a time to set aside the differences and get help to the victims - who cares how it comes? Save the polictics and the debate for another time. Go to http://www.fema.gov/news/newsrelease.fema?id=18473
for a list of organizations who are contributing to the relief effort.

Yes. Whenever I pray to the CAT, Its answers are always, "Tend to me human. Your troubles are secondary to my comfort!" :-)

karen,

I think there is something to the notion that if there is a god, it's a cat. There's so much evidence:

1. humans' compulsion to provide free food and shelter for vicious animals that ruin our furniture, scratch us, and pee on the carpet,

2. powerful and mysterious attractions to large areas of sand,

3. common interest in getting high on garden weeds,

etc, etc....

BillL

I just read on another atheist website that the Red Cross is a non-religious charity. That may be your best bet, and it's probably going to be the one that gets the most donations for this catastrophe.
RedCross.org I think. Cnn and other news shows putting donation sites up often on screen.

My husband works for a paper company that has 3 mills in the affected states. We're waiting to see if they set up a fund specific for company employees like they did when Floyd came through here. It may seem picky, but I think the company matches donations and there are no administrative costs; 100% of our donation will go to actual people who need help. If this doesn't materialize, we will go with Red Cross.
Rope Leash mentioned an atheist charity site the other day. I checked it out and it was still under construction.

Poor Dubya. He had to cut his vacation short to pay attention to the country. That's the lead-in for everything I've heard about him in the last two days on the news.

And to think, it's been, what, 5,6 weeks since his last vacation? How is the man supposed to think right, right, right, right, um straight?

Let's all pray for GWB to have a nice long vacation; one that starts with the word, impeachment.

Does anyone know of a non-religious organization that I can make a donation to? I was going to make one earlier but found out that it was a x-tian based group (Feed the Children). I would like to make a dontaion on behalf of the Atheist community to go towards relief efforts. I know it's probably not appropriate to be picky in times like this, but I don't trust any religious groups.
