I'm not a lawyer or legal authority, but I suspect that if religious groups were subject to the same scrutiny as orgs like AA, they could not get away with this kind of abuse. It isn't just the nonsense that is being promoted it's the idea that a piece of string can have miraculous powers,(but get yours while the supply lasts only $15.00). When I see people with these symbols I generally inform them of what I just posted here and then tell them that these symbols mark them as gullible. Typical is for me to mind my own biz but some have come back to thank me weeks later and to let me know that they were embarrassed by their gullibility. The word does get through to some.
