Introduction

Hello and thanks for checking out the No God Blog! This blog is sponsored entirely by American Atheists and is a place for discussion on topics relating to Atheism and the separation of church and state. My name is Dave Silverman, and I?ll be your host. I?m not sure what kind of blogger I?ll be ? will I update daily, weekly, or less? I don?t know and I make no guarantees, and you?ll probably find that I post more often when there are pressing issues at hand. The rules for this blog are simple. ALL posts from religious proselytizers will be deleted ? this blog is for nonbelievers and supporters only. Profanity will be deleted as this board may be viewed by children. Also, although you may express opinions / debate about any position taken by American Atheists, this board is not for complaining about AA?s internal policy or structure. Such complaints should be sent directly to the President of American Atheists, Ellen Johnson at ej@atheists.org.Finally, since I am human and I have my own opinions, it should be stated that in some cases the opinions I express may not necessarily be the opinion of American Atheists, unless I specifically state it. OK! Let?s get Started!

Everything you wrote that I read this date, 4/28 is so true. You have my full attention, Dave Silverman, and thanks for this service. How crafty and comfortable are pope and president.

Who came up with this brilliant idea???

  3. Anonymous says:

Your blog is a great start for much needed commentary on present day issues. I’ll try to keep up-to-date.

By the way, is your blog for you alone or will you take material from other sources. I have a hobby-horse (opinion) on crucifixion, pagan sacrifice, eucharist and cannibalism that I’d like to get aired if someone was interested. I’ll send it to you for your consideration free of charge if you think you could use it.

What a brilliant idea. Finally, a place where thoughtful, intelligent comment can be expressed. I wonder just who could have come up with such an idea.

Thanks all. As to the origin of the idea, it came from a certain friend of mine who, despite her questionable taste in men, has some more-than-occasional flashes of brilliance.

These are the synptoms of an un-treated alcholic according to Ms. van Wormer, Professor of Social Work at the University of Northern Iowa and co-author of ‘Addiction Treatment: A Strengths Perspective’.

    Exaggerated self-importance and pomposity
    Grandiose behavior
    A rigid, judgmental outlook
    Impatience
    Childish behavior
    Irresponsible behavior
    Irrational rationalization
    Projection
    Overreaction

Remind you of anyone you know?
Having George Bush as president has involved the entire world in his pathology. Van Wormer suggests that the President may also have brain damage. Being a right wing fundamentalists is only a part of the problem. That only shows that he goes from one exteme to the other. We are in a lot of trouble for the next four years. Trampling over the constitution is inconsequencial to him. He ansers to a “higher” power. The political analyists try to frame George Bush in the only framework that they know. They attribute more sense to his positions than is there.
I am astonished that people see nothing wrong with Bush’s very strange behaviour. I am also amazed that he has gotten as far as he has.

    New American Atheists Blog
American Atheists is sponsoring a fairly new blog, called NoGodBlog. It looks like a good one, so I added it to my BlogRoll.

Hello everybody! I may have found a home.

Great blog, and honestly the very FIRST blog I’ve ever been interested enough to read, follow or post!

    As a side note:
Mucho Kudos to you and your straight forward policy of simply deleting preachy illogical posts…after all this ISN’T a democracy here and those posts (and people) do nothing but distract and lure members into circular arguments about the ridiculous.

We see enough of that on TV, newspapers and more recently, the sickeningly patronizing 24/7-30 day tv coverage of the Pope’s passing and appointment of a new pope.

Thanks! It’s nice to have ultimate power to shut up the religious right, for a change.

I live in the Dallas, Texas Metro area, and probably get too much bible thumper input to be objective. But, it seems the religious right, aka thumpers, are really mobilizing to create a theocracy, and consequently the American christian version of the Taliban. Maitaining church/state separation is primal for us atheists, and anyone else who wishes to live free of the tyranny that church states alway impose. Who is countering this thumper blitzkreig, and how do I get involved to help prevent it? I joined the AA last year.

  12. pinoyatheist says:

I live in the Philippine Island, and unlike the US, our church doesn’t even bother about the issue of the seperation of church and State.

Your blog is one of the best atheist blog I ever read.
Masbuhay!!! and hope you keep on blogging.

Gotta say this blog is awesome! It has attracted some of the most intelligent, spirited and wellspoken people I have ever read on the net! (or it’s got a really good garbage filter!)

For those who tripped onto this blog site here is a well written article pertaining to the origins of christianity. For us atheists,it confirms what we have been saying all along.

I hate to say it, as an atheist/agnostic, but Jesus really helped the survivors of storm Katrina. No, I am serious, no sarcasm intended this time. Jesus helped survivors all over the gulf coast?or should I say at least the thought of Jesus being their personal savior provided them with un-paralleled comfort in their time of distress. Now this is no small feat for this number of people to feel good in spite of their danger. Ellen Johnson with her words of reality certainly could not make these many people feel as good or safe. Not even our beloved George W. Bush could ease their fear?provided of course he had even bothered to utter words of comfort between clearing brush and bike rides.

Jesus loves me this I know ?cause the bible tells me so!!! He will watch over me!
    We are all God?s children.

Every ravished survivor of Katrina and her aftermath knows that it was their personal relationship with Lord Jesus that pulled them through this disaster. As one person told CNN after the storm passed, ?I have everything that I need, food, water and Jesus. Jesus heard my prayer and saved me.? This is a common theme for almost everyone that is interviewed; without Jesus/God they could not have made it through Katrina. I would hazard a guess that even though there may have been a thousand non-believers in New Orleans the vast majority of the population was saying prayers at sometime during the storm. So goooooo Jesus, save all those believers because FEMA certainly won?t.
I do not see how non-believers can argue with these facts. Jesus really saves!

But wait a minute Jesus, before I continue praising you for your contribution, just answer a couple of questions. What is that bloated body with the crucifix around its neck doing floating in that field? Oh, You did not hear that one?s prayers for help! Okay, I understand, you just happed to miss one during all the confusion.

So let us continue this praise session Jesus and give credit where credit is due. Now it seems to me?excuse me a minute JC, if I may call you that, is that another one of God?s children floating face down over there?wait?there is another one of your dead children over there?Oh there is another, and another, and another, and another, and another?Jesus Christ, there are thousands of your dead children floating down there??? Did you not hear their prayers either? What is your answer?? Oh, you are going to tell me a secret, but break it to me slowly?OK, go ahead, I am all ears.

So Jesus what you are saying is, this is all part of you and your father?s master plan for mass euthanasia? OK Jesus, let me see if I have got this straight? Since you and your father are compassionate universe creators, when you ?thin out the herd?, you do not want the ones that have to go to suffer too badly? So you have this self-hypnosis thing going where you get your children to continually convince themselves that you and your father will save them, provided that they believe. They get this warm fuzzy feeling thinking that you love each one personally, so when the time comes to die they will still refuse to believe that you will allow their demise? Oh yes Jesus, I imagine that it IS quite funny to see the expression on their faces when they realize, at the last moment, that this prayer thing is all bull shit and you don?t give a damn one way or the other.

So Jesus, how can you keep up the pretense of loving and caring for so long with all this suffering and those dead people lying all around? Oh, so you don?t keep it up, someone just started the story and all the people whose blind ass luck of being in the right place at the right time perpetuate the myth with their stupid belief that you actually helped them. Yes Jesus, I imagine that people are quite gullible but I didn?t know that you felt that way. You certainly are being brutally honest with me and I am quite surprised.

I do not mean to appear negative to you or your father, but if we are all your children, isn?t this death and destruction thing, a little like child abuse? Oh I?m sorry, I did not realize, that you were sensitive about that question?please don?t get angry. Just one last question and then I will let you go back to talking to George W and helping him run the country.

Jesus, I really appreciate you informing me of all this, but why are you ?spilling the beans? now and actually talking to ME, a non-believer, personally? This could hurt your reputation if all this got out. What do you mean no one would believe me? What do you mean that you are not actually talking to me anyway? What do you mean that you and your father don?t exist? You are crazy Jesus, you are not just in my head?and I am not just talking to myself?AM I????

    JESUS CHRIST?an epiphany!!!!!!!!

    question

If someone insists that 2 plus 2 is equal to 5, and no matter how much effort you put forth to educate them, they still insist that 2 plus 2 equals 5, is it hateful, preachy, or vulgar, to refer to them as stupid, irrational and viscious if they try to use their faulty math to build bridges and sky scrapers which will, no doubt, be very dangerous and unsafe?
