American Atheists Demand Answers on Romney's Religious Loyalty
americanatheists-billboard-HDTV72dpi-rgb (1).jpegCranford, NJ – American Atheists will launch a mobile billboard campaign October 22, 2012, in Boca Raton, FL, near the final presidential debate site. The billboard states, “No Blacks Allowed (until 1978). No Gays Allowed (Current). Shame on Mormonism.” This campaign highlights just two of the troubling aspects of Romney’s religious faith.
Dave Silverman, President of American Atheists stated, “The American population is woefully unaware of the implications of a Mormon president because nobody is discussing theissue. Mormonism is a non-Abrahamic religion that has already used its money and might to impose its beliefs on the non-Mormon citizens of California.”
“We need to know if Mr. Romney supports these and other discriminatory actions of his church, for which he evangelized when it was still overtly racist, and to which he continues to donate millions of dollars. It’s a fair statement to say that all American citizens should be wary of a president who once proselytized, to Christians and Atheists alike, for a living,” Mr. Silverman said.
Mr. Silverman will ride in the truck (watch video here) for the launch of this billboard campaign; the truck will follow the Romney bus on the road for several days after the debate.
“Both the right and the left have hammered President Obama about his faith and policy decisions—many of which American Atheists has opposed,” stated constitutional law expert and Managing Director Amanda Knief.
Ms. Knief continued, “When President Kennedy was running for office, the American public demanded to know whether his first loyalty was to his Catholic church or his country, and he answered, in no uncertain terms, that he stood by this country and supported the separation of religion and government. All we are asking is that Mr. Romney address the same issue—as president, will he give his first priority to the U.S. Constitution or the Book of Mormon?”
American Atheists is not taking a position in the presidential election. Rather, we are concerned about whether the candidate will use the office of president to impose his religion’s tenets upon the general population.
AMERICAN ATHEISTS is a national 501(c)(3) organization that defends civil rights for atheists, freethinkers, and other nonbelievers; works for the total separation of religion and government; and addresses issues of First Amendment public policy.

In choosing the right person
In choosing the right person to lead the nation, we should not base it from the words that came out from his mouth, rather we should judge him according to what he has done for the good of the public. - Garrett Hoelscher
