AMERICAN ATHEISTS TO DEMONSTRATE FOR SEPARATION SUNDAY AT TEN COMMANDMENTS RALLY IN MONTGOMERY Alabama AA Director Larry Darby has announced that Atheists and other state-church separation activists will demonstrate this Sunday, September 28 in Montgomery, Ala. This protest takes place as the so-called "Spirit of Montgomery" caravan nd religious road show in support of government-sponsored display of the Ten Commandments departs for Washington, DC. "Atheists will be speaking out against proposed state and federal legislation that foment government-coerced religion, and against all instances of 'ceremonial deism,' such as the use of the words 'under God' in our Pledge of Allegiance, as well as the religious national motto," Mr. Darby told media in announcing the protest. Followers of Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore have formed the caravan in hopes of whipping up support for unconstitutional public religion such as the two-ton Commandments display recently removed from the foyer of the state Judicial Building by federal court order. The demonstration will assemble beginning at 2:30 PM on the north side of Dexter Avenue at Decatur Street in front of the old judicial building (445 Dexter). This location is adjacent to the zone established for the Commandments caravan, which is scheduled to depart following a 3:00 pm rally at the nearby Capitol building. Bring appropriate signs and banners for this peaceful demonstration. Contact Larry Darby through ldarby@atheists.org or visit http://www.atheists.org/al for further information.
